Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Must Not Let Melissa Greenwood Raise Eldest Son
The next day, when Yolanda Greenwood woke up, she saw Cooper Coldson sitting by the bed.
For a moment, she thought she was still dreaming. Her face was full of disbelief, and her gaze toward Cooper was mixed with a myriad of emotions.
"Yolanda," Cooper noticed that something was off about her expression, so he called out her name.
Sure enough, Yolanda’s eyes quickly focused, and she woke up completely. She struggled to get up, "You..."
"Don’t move!" Cooper’s face darkened, and he pressed Yolanda’s shoulders with both hands.
This woman truly was just as those three people had said—waking up only to go mad immediately. His displeased voice rang out, "Don’t move. Let’s just talk like this."
The excitement in Yolanda’s eyes gradually subsided. Indeed, she had woken up to confront Cooper and ask him questions. Now that Cooper was here, she could ask.
So, she nodded lightly, her gaze appearing somewhat pitiable.
Cooper released his hands and sat back down.
"Cooper, did you take our son? Why? What’s your intention?" Yolanda tried her best to control her emotions, but as soon as she spoke, her voice choked up.
Cooper shifted his posture and crossed his legs. "Two kids—one for you and one for me. What’s the problem?"
Yolanda became agitated and struggled to get up again.
Cooper’s face darkened further. "If you can’t stay lying down, I’ll leave right now."
"I won’t get up. I won’t get up," Yolanda said quickly, as if afraid he would leave.
Cooper pressed his lips together slightly. This obedient side of Yolanda was something he hadn’t seen in ages.
In fact, the two of them rarely even managed to have calm conversations anymore.
Yolanda spoke again—carefully, with a hint of pleading, "Cooper, can you please bring our son back?"
"No!" Cooper’s refusal was clear and decisive.
Yolanda bit her lip hard, tears uncontrollably streaming down her face as she looked at Cooper with her wet eyes.
Cooper frowned slightly and shifted his posture again. "The child is of Coldson Family bloodline. He’s my heir. Giving you one of them is already as generous as I can be. After all, only with me can the child have the best of everything."
Yolanda was speechless for a moment and couldn’t help but ask him in return, "The best of everything? What exactly do you mean? Money?"
"The best living environment, the best schools and teachers, the best clothing, food, and housing..." Cooper looked like he could go on endlessly. "Do you think those things don’t matter?"
Yolanda looked at him. She knew that Cooper hadn’t changed a bit after all this time.
In his mind, power and wealth represented everything. Born into the Coldson Family, one was already winning the race from the start.
But Yolanda didn’t think that way. She spoke again, slowly, "Cooper, I admit that you are rich. In Gray City, even nationwide—or globally—your influence is among the top..."
She looked at him with a trace of sympathy. "But ask yourself honestly, do you really need that much money? Do those things genuinely make people happy?"
Cooper’s expression became even darker. "Yolanda, stop saying such pointless things. You were born into the Greenwood Family. From childhood to adulthood, even though you’re not Third Greenwood’s biological daughter, you’ve never lacked clothes or food. So when you say money doesn’t matter, it’s because you’ve never truly been poor."
"I’m not saying money doesn’t matter. I’m just saying..." Yolanda looked at him. "Compared to money, I think love and care are more important for a child’s growth."
Cooper curled his lip slightly. "My son—of course I will love him. In the future, Little May will be his sister, and they’ll grow up together. The Coldson Family will love them both."
Yolanda shook her head. To her, Cooper didn’t know how to love—he didn’t know how to truly care for anyone.
Moreover, when Cooper mentioned Little May, Yolanda suddenly thought of something. "You... in the future, do you plan to have Melissa Greenwood raise our son?"
Cooper thought for a moment before responding, "Probably."
"No way!" Yolanda immediately objected, her emotions surging once more. Melissa had too many issues and scandals surrounding her. She would never entrust her son to such a person.
She began to get out of bed again. "No, Cooper, I beg you. Please, give me back my son."
Cooper stood up again and pressed her down. "Yolanda, enough. I won’t bring the boy back. You need to let this go. However..."
Tears streamed down Yolanda’s face as she looked at him.
Cooper continued, "You can see him anytime. After all, you’re his biological mother."
"No, no..." Yolanda shook her head firmly, determined to reclaim her son. "Cooper, I’m begging you. I’ll do anything you want—just bring my son back."
"Impossible. Let it go!" Cooper’s attitude showed no sign of wavering.
Yolanda finally couldn’t hold back her cries and broke down, sobbing loudly. "Cooper, you bastard! You’re such a bastard! Give me back my son! Give me back my son!"
Noah Coldson and the others outside heard the commotion and immediately rushed in.
Noah grabbed Cooper and pulled him aside, while Lola Gold and Adam Sterling stepped forward to check on Yolanda.
"Yolanda, are you okay? Are you okay?" Lola asked anxiously, debating whether to call a nurse to give Yolanda a shot.
Yolanda seemed to grab onto a lifeline, clutching Lola’s hand tightly. "My son, help me get my son back."
"Alright, alright." Lola agreed verbally, though in her heart she knew she couldn’t do anything—Cooper was an unfeeling man.
Seeing that Yolanda wasn’t physically unwell, Noah dragged Cooper out.
"What exactly are you trying to do?" He couldn’t understand. "Cooper, don’t you love her? Could you really bear to see her in so much pain?"
"Love? Her?" Cooper let out a soft laugh. "Brother, you’re overthinking. I just want my own child back."
"Cooper, how long are you going to keep deceiving yourself?" Noah shouted angrily.
Cooper brushed aside Noah’s hand and adjusted his clothing. "Brother, you’re truly overthinking. To me, Yolanda is nothing more than the mother of my children. Today, I came here only for the sake of the two kids."
He turned and prepared to leave. "I’ve said everything I needed to say. The rest is up to you all to handle."
"Cooper, do you know how much Yolanda suffered carrying this child? Can you really..." Noah couldn’t finish, but Cooper still left without looking back.
Defeated, Noah returned to the room, only to find that Yolanda had quieted down.
Lola shook her head at him, indicating that Yolanda’s condition was still not good.
Adam worried that Yolanda’s depression might relapse, so he sent the others out to buy supplies and stayed to talk with her.
"Yolanda, in situations like this, you might want to consult Liam Dawson," he suggested an idea. "Your child is still nursing. Even in the event of a divorce, the court would likely rule in favor of the mother."
Yolanda turned to him with surprise.
Adam nodded. "Your most important task right now is to recover quickly. Both kids are relying on you."
Yes, Yolanda knew she couldn’t give up. She couldn’t let Melissa Greenwood raise her son.
