Chapter 278: Chapter 278: You Can’t Really Be Infertile, Can You?
Yolanda Greenwood didn’t know when she had fallen asleep, but when she woke up the next day, Lola Gold was already up.
She stumbled into the living room, only to hear Lola Gold calling her for breakfast.
"I bought soy milk, fried dough sticks, and buns. Go freshen up."
"Okay," Yolanda didn’t say much, although Lola Gold looked no different than usual, there were obvious dark circles under her eyes, clearly having had a bad sleep.
Yolanda guessed that it was very likely Lola Gold had been awake all night.
The two of them had breakfast together and arrived at the courthouse on time, half an hour before the session was due to start.
"I’ll send Cooper Coldson a message to remind him," Yolanda still felt uneasy. If Cooper played disappearing acts again, she would be really angry.
She quickly composed a WeChat message, "I’m already at the courthouse, half an hour until the session starts, hurry up!"
The message was sent but received no response, which didn’t surprise Yolanda, since Cooper had always been this way.
However, as time ticked away and there were only five minutes left before the start, a court employee came over to verify whether both the plaintiff and the defendant had arrived.
"The defendant hasn’t arrived." Yolanda had made several phone calls, but no one answered, even Richard Reyes didn’t pick up her call.
Her heart sank bit by bit as she came to the realization that Cooper wasn’t going to show up.
"What exactly is this bastard up to?" Lola Gold couldn’t help but get angry. "Does he want to have his cake and eat it too? Want to marry Melissa Greenwood and still keep a hold on you, what a scumbag."
Yolanda let out a helpless sigh. When it really came down to this moment, she simply didn’t have the energy to be angry anymore.
Finally, the time for the court session arrived and Judge Dawson, Liam Dawson, came in.
"Just you?" Liam Dawson frowned, "Mr. Coldson isn’t here?"
"I’m sorry." Yolanda didn’t know what to say, she spread her hands, "I can’t get in touch with him."
Liam Dawson shook his head, "When I spoke to him that day, I could tell he didn’t want a divorce. Yolanda, you two should talk."
"No matter what he thinks, I’ve made up my mind," Yolanda showed no sign of changing her mind, "There’s nothing left for us to talk about."
Lola Gold cursed from the side, "Is it okay for him to do this? Come if he wants and not show up if he doesn’t? Does he think this is his own house?"
"Of course not," Liam Dawson spoke more sternly, "he is also showing contempt for the court, and I will issue him a warning letter."
He then looked at Yolanda, "Don’t worry. If you insist on divorcing and he can’t find any reason not to, and he just drags it on, after three times, we can still enforce it."
Yolanda breathed a sigh of relief, "I really appreciate all your help."
"It’s just that I’m afraid if he..." Liam Dawson spoke helplessly, "If he comes to his senses and doesn’t want a divorce, and insists on it in court, that would be difficult. So, it’s best if you communicate before your next court appearance."
"Okay, thank you Sister Dawson, I’ll try my best to communicate with him," Yolanda apologized with her expression.
As they left the courthouse, it was already close to 11 o’clock.
Yolanda asked Lola Gold, "Shall we go to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital now?"
"Let’s go," Lola Gold said indifferently, "The sooner we get the results, the sooner we can decide what to do. Hiding isn’t a solution. I’m not a coward like Cooper Coldson."
Yolanda chuckled, and the two of them took a taxi to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Melissa Greenwood had just finished her checkup when the nurse called for Cooper to join her to hear the results.
The specialist from the M country spoke in English, briefly explaining Melissa’s condition, "Her uterus was injured when she was young, and had stopped developing. So, she can’t get pregnant in her lifetime."
The specialist looked at Cooper apologetically, "Mr. Coldson, I’m truly powerless to help."
Upon hearing this, Melissa immediately turned and wept on Cooper’s shoulder, "I’m sorry, Cooper, I knew it would be this way, I’ve disappointed you."
Cooper was frozen in place as if the hope that had just begun to rise in his heart had burst like a bubble.
He even forgot to comfort Melissa at that moment.
"There’s no need to be upset, Miss Greenwood," it was the M country specialist who took the initiative to speak, "If you really like children, you can adopt one, there’s really not much difference."
Melissa raised her head to cautiously gauge Cooper’s reaction.
Cooper helped her stand up and thanked the specialist, "Are you planning to stay in Gray City for a few days, or are you going back tonight?"
"I’m leaving tonight," the specialist obviously had no wish to stay.
"Alright, I’ve arranged a private jet for you, someone will pick you up later," Cooper left with Melissa.
"Cooper, wait for me," Melissa saw Cooper walking quickly and hurried after him, "Are you angry with me? Do you despise me, too?"
"It’s not that," Cooper said, but his steps didn’t slow, nor did he look at Melissa, "Not being able to fulfill your dream of being a mother, I’m sad, too."
The two of them walked out one after the other, not expecting to run into Yolanda and Lola Gold right in front of the department of obstetrics and gynecology.
Both parties came to a standstill.
Yolanda glanced at Melissa, then turned to Cooper, "Why didn’t you come to the session today?"
"I had something to do," Cooper’s tone was suppressed with anger, he was already irritated, and with Yolanda bringing up the divorce first thing, he felt as if his head was about to explode.
"Cooper, is this funny to you?" Yolanda couldn’t tolerate it anymore, "What good does dragging this out do for you?"
Cooper was about to speak but was interrupted by Melissa.
She stepped forward, positioning herself between the two of them, "Yolanda, don’t be angry. Today Cooper was with me for a fertility checkup, that’s why he couldn’t make it. We won’t miss it again."
"Fertility checkup?" Yolanda was slightly surprised, not expecting Cooper to move so quickly.
"You can’t really be infertile, can you?" Lola commented sarcastically.
Melissa put on a sad expression, "This is a private matter between Cooper and me, I don’t want to say much. Yolanda, it really isn’t Cooper’s fault this time, I was just too scared and wanted him by my side."
Yolanda looked at Melissa, then at Cooper, and couldn’t help but admire her inwardly.
It was clear from the situation that Melissa had passed the fertility check, and Cooper was still in the dark.
She was really curious, could a fertility specialist from the M country be bought off by Melissa? How many tricks did this woman have up her sleeve?
But all these were no longer of her concern, and she didn’t bother to expose anything.
"Then I hope next time, your Cooper will show up on time," Yolanda said coldly. "If he really can’t make it, Melissa, I suggest you accompany him. I’ll send you the time for the next session."
Yolanda glanced at Lola Gold and the two quickly left.
Melissa looked back to see Cooper’s face darkened threateningly.
"Cooper, I’ll remind you next time and go with you," Melissa bit her lip, "Otherwise Yolanda will always think you can’t bear to divorce her."
