Chapter 273: Chapter 273: Her Love for Him is Also Fading

Noah Coldson obviously recognized Cooper Coldson’s voice.

The three of them quieted down simultaneously, the atmosphere becoming instantly awkward.

Yolanda Greenwood couldn’t take it anymore, she said to her cellphone, "Big brother, I’ll talk to you later, okay?"

She hung up the video call and glared at Cooper Coldson, "You did that on purpose, didn’t you?"

"On purpose? What?" Cooper responded nonchalantly, "Yolanda, is it necessary? I just made you a bowl of noodles. Was it worth all this hiding and now even lying?"

Yolanda suddenly lost her appetite and put down her chopsticks, "Thanks for the noodles."

She turned and walked towards the living room.

Cooper followed behind with his long strides, "Yolanda, why do you feel guilty? Could it be..."

He stepped in front of her, blocking her path, "Could it be that you still have feelings for me?"

"Stop flattering yourself," Yolanda said, her head aching with frustration, "I just didn’t want big brother to overthink and get upset."

She bypassed the annoying obstacle and flopped down onto the sofa.

Cooper sat down on the sofa next to her and hesitated before speaking, "I’m taking Melissa to M country tomorrow."

"Ha," Yolanda laughed sarcastically, "And how does that concern me?"

"I’m taking her for a fertility test," Cooper continued, ignoring Yolanda’s scoffs, "Maybe, it might cure her infertility."

Yolanda was slightly surprised and looked over, puzzled, "Why are you suddenly treating her? I thought you didn’t want kids?"

Cooper’s expression changed slightly, his deep eyes fixed on Yolanda, "Actually, it’s not like that..."

"Forget it, it’s none of my business, and I don’t want to know," Yolanda cut him off, she truly didn’t want to listen.

Because the truth was continually reminding her that all the things Cooper couldn’t give her, he could give to Melissa Greenwood.

Thinking of Melissa Greenwood’s infertility, Yolanda gave Cooper a sarcastic smile, "I wish you all the best, may she surprise you."

Cooper clenched his teeth - a surprise? Did Yolanda mean she was wishing him and Melissa Greenwood would get pregnant?

This woman really... Can’t spit anything nice from her mouth, always ruining his mood so effortlessly.

How infuriating!

Neither of them spoke to each other, treating the other as if they were air.

After a while, the sound of a door opening came from upstairs, obviously Lola Gold had come out.

Yolanda quickly stood up, moving her heavy body to the staircase to wait, keeping her gaze anxiously upward.

Soon, Lola appeared, looking pale and unusually quiet.

Even stranger, she was alone; Christopher Coldson hadn’t even come out to see her off.

Yolanda guessed the two must have had a falling out, and her eyes filled with pity.

Lola walked downstairs and forced a smile at Yolanda, "Have you eaten?"

Yolanda nodded.

"That’s good, otherwise if the babies went hungry, I’d be the criminal," Lola said, seeming fine, "Shall we go back?"

Yolanda nodded again.

Lola noticed Cooper getting up and looking their way, she raised her voice, "Thanks for the dinner."

Both were unusually silent as they walked out of the Coldson family’s villa.

Once in the car, Lola said nothing all the way, and Yolanda tacitly didn’t ask further.

Back home, Lola finally spoke, her tone bitter, "Yolanda, I’ve had another breakup."

"What?" Yolanda was incredulous, "Is Randy Carter really carrying Christopher Coldson’s child?"

Lola shook her head, "I don’t know, and neither does Christopher, but he said, before figuring things out, he doesn’t want to see me."

"..." Yolanda was speechless, "What’s that supposed to mean?"

Lola sighed deeply, "I was surprised, too. I didn’t expect him to care so much about the child."

She gave a rueful smile at Yolanda, "If I knew, I would’ve gotten pregnant quickly too, all these introductions to the parents were useless."

Yolanda wasn’t sure how to comfort Lola, after a moment she said, "Actually, it’s good to clarify things first, it prevents future problems, and he didn’t say he wanted to break up, right?"

"It’s his problem now, why does he get to say?" Lola sniffed, sitting up straight, "Now, it’s me who wants to break up with that deadbeat!"

She cried as she cursed, "The tears I cry now are from my brain – what was I thinking, finding him pitiable before? I must have been insane."

"Lola..." Yolanda felt sympathy.

"Yolanda, don’t worry, I’m okay. My love for him has just gradually faded away; it doesn’t hurt as much as before."

Lola forced a smile, "Even if he kneels and begs now, it’s no use."

Yolanda didn’t know what to say, but she felt deeply for Lola.

It was the same with Cooper for her.

From the initially heart-wrenching pain to now nearly calm, her love for him was almost gone, too.

On the other hand, Melissa Greenwood was extremely agitated, with their trip to M country tomorrow, she didn’t know what to expect.

She threw things around the room in her irritation, creating quite a commotion.

"Mommy," Little May’s head appeared at the door, "what’s wrong?"

"Get out!" Melissa hurled a pillow at her.

Little May was hit but didn’t leave; instead, she opened the door and entered the room.

Melissa grew angrier, "Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear me tell you to get out?"

Little May seemed not to hear her, moving her little legs, she went self-assuredly to a drawer and opened it.

Melissa instantly knew what the child was up to.

Furious, she didn’t let Little May speak and yanked the child over, spanking her fiercely on the buttocks.

"You little wretch, what are you planning? Are you trying to kill me?"

She raged, "Don’t you know how your useless father died? Do you want me to end up like him? I told you to plot against me, I’ll kill you, kill you!"

She used almost all her strength, even pulling down Little May’s pants, the child’s buttocks swelling up.

"Wah..." Little May cried pitifully, protesting, "Daddy said it’s good stuff, that it’ll make you less upset..."

"Wah..." The child cried heartrendingly, "May doesn’t want to see mommy upset, May didn’t mean to hurt mommy, May wants mommy to be happy..."

Melissa’s raised hand stopped mid-air.

Since Eliana Reed had died, and since Gemma Morgan and Jaxon Greenwood were one dead and one comatose, who cared whether she was happy?

This child... she must be telling the truth; how could she understand the harm, she must have believed what her father said.

Melissa sighed, helping Little May get dressed, "May, be a good girl, don’t cry anymore, mommy misunderstood you."

Little May’s face was covered in tears as she looked pitifully at Melissa.

"There, go wash your face nicely, mommy will stay by herself for a while."

Melissa anxiously shut the child out of the room, her gaze turning towards that drawer.
