Chapter 253: Chapter 253 Brooks Parker Suspected of Overdosing on Drugs and Died
The eldest sister intended to persuade, but another staff member stopped her.
Yolanda recognized her as the person who had handled her and Cooper Coldson’s two divorces.
She awkwardly tugged at the corner of her mouth.
"Why are you alone?" The older sister frowned, clearly annoyed by Yolanda and Cooper’s repeated troubles.
"..." Yolanda felt even more embarrassed, glancing at the entrance, "Don’t worry, he will be here soon."
"He had better be." The older sister handed Yolanda the first number and turned to begin her work.
Yolanda held the paper, feeling uncomfortable all over. She quickly went aside to call Cooper, but no one answered.
She had a bad premonition.
Soon, the Civil Affairs Office opened, and Yolanda, holding the first number, glanced at the older sister from afar before turning to call Cooper again, but still couldn’t get through.
She sat to one side, dejected, not daring to meet the gaze of the staff members.
The previous older sister came over again, concerned, and poured her a cup of hot water, "What’s the matter? Has your man had second thoughts?"
"I don’t think so," Yolanda forced a smile, "Maybe something came up, I’ll wait a little longer."
The older sister sat down beside her, "My dear girl, you look about my daughter’s age. Let me tell you, men always make mistakes. Sometimes, giving them a chance can change everything."
Yolanda remained silent.
"You’re pregnant now, and you look about four or five months along," the older sister sighed, "have you considered whether your family would agree to you really getting divorced? Do you have enough savings to support giving birth on your own?"
"I’m still working." Yolanda smiled, "I should be able to support them."
The older sister shook her head, "Young lady, you’re still naive. Your husband didn’t come today, and from what my colleagues say, you’ve been here many times, which means your relationship isn’t completely broken. Giving each other a chance might be a better choice."
She didn’t wait for Yolanda to respond, "Think about it yourself."
After saying this, she left with her thermos.
Yolanda watched her inactive phone, feeling vaguely suspicious. Could Cooper really have changed his mind?
She didn’t believe it was possible.
She waited at the Civil Affairs Office until noon, but Cooper still didn’t appear.
She had no choice but to leave temporarily. Once outside, she called him again, and this time, fortunately, the call went through.
"Where are you? Why haven’t you come yet?" Yolanda’s tone was urgent.
"I’m at home, in the old house," Cooper’s voice sounded calm.
Yolanda’s anger flared, "You’re at home? Have you forgotten why we returned to our country? I’m at the Civil Affairs Office right now, come here quickly!"
"Yolanda, are you so eager to start your new life?" Cooper sneered, "Are you sure it’ll be better than the old one?"
Yolanda was baffled, "What are you talking about? Hurry up and come here!"
"Grandfather is in a very bad state right now; I can’t leave," Cooper hung up after saying this, knowing Yolanda would definitely come over.
After hanging up, Yolanda immediately took a taxi to the old house.
She knew Old Master Coldson was in poor health, and her worries grew.
Soon after arriving at the old house, Yolanda practically ran inside. However, upon entering the living room, the atmosphere wasn’t as she had imagined.
Isabella Ross and Sunny Coldson were chatting without any signs of Cooper or Noah Coldson.
Could they be upstairs?
"Yolanda, come sit down," Isabella still welcomed her warmly, rising to approach her.
Yolanda hesitated, "I came to see how Grandfather is doing."
"Oh, go ahead then. Grandfather has been asking about you a lot lately," Isabella smiled.
"..." The more Yolanda heard, the more incorrect it seemed, "Aunt Ross, has Grandfather been okay recently?"
"He’s been quite good."
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Yolanda puzzledly went upstairs and found that there was indeed no problem with Grandfather. She had been deceived by Cooper.
After chatting with Old Master Coldson for a while, he noticed that her mind was elsewhere, "Are you here for Cooper or Noah?"
"No," Yolanda pulled at her mouth corner.
"Go ahead then. Grandfather is fine and can live to see the baby in your belly get born," Old Master Coldson cheerfully said.
"Okay, then, Grandfather, I will leave now," Yolanda went straight to Cooper’s bedroom and knocked. Someone was indeed there.
"What do you mean?" She entered and immediately questioned him coldly.
"What do I mean?" Cooper looked unconcerned.
Yolanda was infuriated, "Why didn’t you come to the Civil Affairs Office today?"
"Didn’t I say? I needed to stay with Grandfather," Cooper still appeared indifferent and smirked at her, "Why, in a hurry to remarry?"
"Cooper!" Yolanda was truly upset, "What are you playing at? We’ve already made a mess, wouldn’t it be better to simply get divorced?"
She really couldn’t understand, "Aren’t you eager to marry Melissa Greenwood? Without the divorce papers, where is your sincerity?"
"Heh heh..." Cooper found the woman before him to be insinuating.
It was clearly her who hurriedly obtained the divorce papers and clarified her intentions with Noah Coldson to start a new life, yet now she was portraying it as if he, Cooper, was rushing.
He looked coldly at Yolanda, "I really don’t understand. Are you so eager to marry my elder brother? To have a big-bellied wedding? Aren’t you afraid people won’t know you’ve been unchaste?"
Yolanda’s heart ached, "Yes, it’s me who’s been unchaste, so please just let me go, and set yourself free, won’t you?"
Cooper looked at her icily, as if he could devour her.
"Cooper, I’ve really had enough, and I’m tired, let’s just call it quits," Yolanda’s tone was almost pleading.
"Call it quits? When you married me back then, that’s not what you said," Cooper’s face was cold, his voice colder, "Yolanda, do you even have a heart? Are you really so eager to marry my elder brother?"
Yolanda opened her mouth to say something when she saw an incoming call.
It was Leah Diaz. She walked aside and answered it, fearful about any problems at Little Wood’s end.
