Chapter 202: Chapter 202: The man held a gun in his hand
Eliana Reed’s funeral was entirely managed by Cooper Coldson, and Melissa Greenwood insisted on attending as her daughter, which quite surprised him.
Isabella Ross also went.
She knew about Eliana hiring someone to kill Jaxon Greenwood and took the opportunity to have a private chat with Melissa.
"Jaxon’s death has nothing to do with you?" She directly raised an eyebrow in question, her sharp gaze making one feel uneasy at heart.
In the past few days, Melissa had been putting on quite the act, with her eyes constantly swollen, and her whole face swollen too, so there was almost no expression, nor could any flaws be seen.
She shook her head. "I didn’t expect her to go that crazy."
Isabella didn’t inquire further. To tell the truth, in her youth, she would have done even crueler things than Melissa, but as long as you succeed, none of that matters.
"It doesn’t matter anymore." Her voice was very cold, "After you marry Cooper, live a good life."
Melissa gave a slight bow, watching Isabella leave.
This time, it appeared Melissa had truly done the right thing.
When Yolanda Greenwood arrived, she just happened to meet Isabella at the entrance.
She was sitting in a wheelchair because it was really inconvenient for her to walk, with Noah Coldson pushing her from behind.
Isabella approached quickly upon seeing this. "What happened?"
Her gaze subconsciously fell on Yolanda’s belly, fearing for the child’s well-being.
"Nothing." Noah quickly answered, "Are you going back, Mom?"
Isabella nodded and then turned to Yolanda, "Take good care of yourself, and don’t worry the adults."
At this moment, she also knew about the mix-up between Yolanda and Melissa Greenwood. Of course, she could guess this was no accident.
Thinking of this, when she looked at Yolanda again, there was a soft light in her eyes.
"Kid, I’m quite surprised you could come." She gently patted Yolanda’s footstep, "You’ve been wronged."
Yolanda’s nose tingled, and tears almost fell. She could feel that Isabella was sincere in what she said.
Even if Eliana truly had faults toward her but after all had raised her, allowing her to go to school and learn many things, and even if they ended up not getting along and stopped communicating, now that she was gone, it was only right for her to come and see.
"Go inside." Isabella then asked Noah to come home later that night before leaving.
Noah pushed Yolanda into the hall, and nearly everyone turned to look, whispering continuously. They looked at Yolanda and then at Melissa.
Clearly, Melissa was more heartbroken, looking particularly haggard.
In contrast, Yolanda, although she looked listless, at least appeared not to have cried.
"Do you want to go over and offer flowers?" Noah asked softly, bending down near her ear.
"Mhm." Yolanda nodded her head.
Noah then pushed her forward, picked two white chrysanthemums, and placed them beside Eliana Reed’s body.
Yolanda thought she would be indifferent, but upon truly seeing Eliana Reed lifelessly lying there, she couldn’t stop her tears.
She bowed her head slightly and whispered softly, "May you go in peace, with all debts of this life settled, I wish you a contented life in your next."
After a moment of silence, Noah pushed her away.
Passing by the family of the deceased, Cooper was supporting Melissa, and both of their gazes fell on Yolanda.
Yolanda looked at them, but couldn’t bring herself to say "condolences." She just nodded slightly and had Noah push her away.
After returning to the hospital, Yolanda asked Noah to leave.
"Let Lola stay tonight; you go on home early."
"No problem, it’s still early." Noah picked up an apple, "I’ll peel it for you to eat."
Yolanda Greenwood couldn’t help but laugh through her tears, "Fine, after you finish peeling that apple, you can go back."
Noah Coldson still lingered until after dinner before returning to the old house, and to his surprise, Cooper Coldson and Christopher Coldson were there too, evidently with something to announce.
"The wedding between Melissa and me," Cooper Coldson stood up and said, "is set for three days from now."
Christopher Coldson furrowed his brows, "She almost lost her dad? And she just lost her mother?"
"No one would think you’re a mute if you kept quiet," Isabella Ross glared at Christopher Coldson.
Christopher Coldson shrugged helplessly and said to Sunny Coldson, "I didn’t say anything wrong."
"This is probably what a few parents wish for," unexpectedly, Sunny Coldson spoke out in Melissa Greenwood’s favor, clearly trying to ease the situation for Cooper Coldson.
Christopher Coldson looked at her with a frown, not saying a word.
Cooper Coldson sat down, "I’m just letting everyone know. If anyone doesn’t want to come, they don’t have to."
When he said this, his gaze was obviously on Noah Coldson.
"I will be there," Noah Coldson stood up, ready to leave, "Mom, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head out."
"Hold on," Isabella Ross led him to the study, "What’s going on between you and Yolanda exactly? Why did Cooper say..."
She lowered her voice, "say that child is yours and hers?"
"It is ours." Noah Coldson leaned against the desk, "If Yolanda is willing, I will marry her."
"Nonsense!" Isabella Ross’s face didn’t look too good.
Noah Coldson looked down at her, "So what do you plan to do? Let Yolanda Greenwood raise these two kids on her own?"
Isabella Ross didn’t respond.
After a while, she emphasized again, "Regardless, you and Yolanda Greenwood can’t be together."
"Mom!" Noah Coldson appeared helpless, "Firstly, I am not Cooper; no one can change what I’ve decided. Secondly..."
He paused, "Mom, you know now how hard Yolanda’s journey has been. How you treated her before... don’t you feel any remorse?"
"That’s the Greenwood Family’s business, what does it have to do with me?" Isabella Ross glared at Noah Coldson, "The child is indeed pitiable, but... but after all, she was once your sister, and if you two get together, this..."
"Anyway, I’ve already decided." Noah Coldson opened the door to leave, "Besides, we might not stay in Gray City in the future."
Isabella Ross watched the door close, shaking her head helplessly.
How could she not sympathize with Yolanda Greenwood? However, she always felt that if Yolanda stayed with the Coldson Family, she would be a ticking bomb, capable of completely blowing up the family at any moment!
Three days went by in the blink of an eye. Noah Coldson attended the wedding, leaving Adam Sterling and Lola Gold to accompany Yolanda Greenwood.
Yolanda Greenwood wanted to visit Jaxon Greenwood, and today was a good chance since Melissa Greenwood was not around.
"Alright, I’ll go with you." Adam Sterling followed her to Jaxon Greenwood’s hospital room.
Yolanda sat by the bed, gently taking Jaxon Greenwood’s hand, "Dad, can you hear me talking? It’s Yolanda!"
Jaxon Greenwood showed no reaction.
He had already passed the danger zone, but the wound on his abdomen still hadn’t healed. He lay there quietly, as if just asleep.
Yolanda sniffled, "Dad, when will you wake up? Didn’t you say you’d protect me?"
The person in the bed still had no reaction.
Yolanda didn’t care; she continued speaking to herself, recounting funny stories from her childhood visits to their house—back then, they got along quite well.
Meanwhile, Lola Gold had been staying inside the room, but suddenly a man in a mask and a cap darted in.
The man was holding a gun!
