Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Is She the Type to Commit Suicide Out of Fear of Punishment?
Melissa Greenwood raised her glass to her lips but didn’t drink.
Her eyes were dark and unfathomable as she silently watched Eliana Reed swallow the alcohol.
Eliana was clearly delighted, holding the money and ready to live it up abroad, which excited her, "Melissa, don’t worry, once Mom settles down overseas, you can come find me."
"Okay," Melissa put down her wine glass and smiled.
"Why aren’t you drinking?" Eliana noticed that Melissa’s glass was still full.
"It’s nothing," Melissa shook her head, "Mom, I’m actually really grateful to you. If everything had gone smoothly, I really would have planned to take care of you until the end, to let you live in comfort."
Eliana frowned. Melissa suddenly saying these things made her feel uneasy.
Melissa’s complexion changed, and a look of hatred flashed in her eyes, "But, heaven doesn’t always follow our wishes. Yolanda Greenwood and the others have been causing trouble, pushing us time and time again."
"Melissa," Eliana panicked, "What are you talking about? Is it...?"
Before she could finish her sentence, she felt a sudden cramp in her abdomen, which immediately broke her out in a cold sweat.
She slid off the sofa, and then spat out a mouthful of fresh blood. She couldn’t speak a word anymore.
She looked at Melissa in horror, letting out cries of "Ahh, ahh, ahh..."
"Mom, just bear with it, just bear with it, it will be over soon," Melissa held Eliana, her eyes reddening, "Mom, don’t hate me, I had no choice, we’ve reached a point of no return."
She clutched Eliana’s head tightly, "Mom, if you have to hate someone, hate Yolanda Greenwood. There, you have to watch over me, keep helping me."
"Uh, uh, uh..." Eliana’s muffled voice grew fainter and fainter, and her struggling limbs gradually stopped.
When it was all over, Melissa still held Eliana, and finally, her tears began to fall.
"Mom, I’m sorry. If I didn’t do this, we would both be doomed." She wiped her eyes fiercely, and then burst into a tirade, "Why couldn’t you have just agreed to take the blame for me? I really would have saved you. Why didn’t you believe me? Why did you force me? You all forced me!"
She cried for a while, with her eyes swelling grotesquely, and then she took out her cell phone.
Before dialing, she looked at Eliana’s pale face, "Mom, help me one last time. From now on, every Qingming Festival, I’ll burn lots and lots of money for you."
Melissa called Cooper Coldson’s phone.
It took a while before the other side picked up, Cooper’s voice sounding low, as if he had been woken up.
"Melissa?"
"Cooper..." Melissa sobbed, "Come quickly, come quickly, my mom... she committed suicide."
"What?" Cooper sat up from the bed almost instantly.
"Come quickly, come quickly!" Melissa cried hysterically, her voice sounding tragically desperate.
"Wait there, I’ll be right over." Cooper dressed rapidly and drove to Eliana’s house.
As soon as he entered, he saw Melissa distraught, holding Eliana, drenched in blood.
"Melissa, what happened?" Cooper rushed forward, crouching beside her, anxiously questioning her.
Melissa was in a daze, and after a while she turned to Cooper, "Cooper, I... I really have no mother anymore..."
"Stop crying for now, what exactly happened?" Cooper grasped Melissa’s arm, unsure of how to comfort her.
"Tonight, my mom suddenly called over, asking me to come and keep her company," Melissa continued through tears, "So I came."
She still clung to Eliana’s body, "When I got here, I found that all the servants were gone, only she was here, and by that time she seemed to have already drunk quite a bit."
"I asked if something was wrong? She wouldn’t say, just asked me to stay with her."
"Later, she started saying a lot of nonsensical things, and the more I listened, the more it felt off, as if she was settling her affairs."
Melissa cried even harder, "Then, then she just suddenly fell off the couch, and threw up a lot of blood; she told me she was leaving, and that I had to take care of myself."
"How could this happen?" Cooper was utterly baffled, "Why would she commit suicide?"
"I don’t know, I don’t know, she didn’t say anything." Melissa shook her head frantically.
"Have you called the police?" Cooper asked.
Melissa shook her head again.
Cooper confirmed with her once more, "Do we need to call the police?"
"Yes, call the police," Melissa sniffled, "I completely panicked just now, all I could think of was finding you..."
"Cooper, I don’t have a mother anymore, both of my mothers are gone now, and my dad is still..." She could hardly continue.
"It’s okay, it’s okay, you still have me, I’m here for you." Cooper reported to the police and accompanied her to the station to give a statement before sending her home.
"Melissa, get some sleep for now. Don’t worry about anything else, I’ll take care of it." Cooper hesitated, then kissed her on the forehead.
Melissa took the chance to wrap her arms around his neck, "Cooper, please don’t leave, can you stay with me?"
"I’m not leaving, I’m just here..." Cooper pointed behind him, "I’ll sit on the sofa, right with you."
Melissa looked at him pitifully, "Cooper, will you one day leave me as well? Everyone is leaving me..."
"Don’t think nonsense." Given the situation, Cooper had also considered it, and he gently reassured Melissa, "Melissa, if you’re willing, let’s have our wedding after your mom’s funeral."
"Really?" Melissa’s heart leaped with joy; indeed, this tactic was effective.
"Yes, really. Now get some sleep." Cooper forced a smile and pulled back his arm, taking a seat on the sofa.
At the hospital the next morning, Noah Coldson received the news.
"Eliana Reed committed suicide?" Lola Gold was dumbfounded, "Does she seem like the type to take her own life out of guilt?"
She turned to Yolanda Greenwood on the hospital bed, "Shouldn’t she have fled?"
Clearly, Lola understood Eliana’s character well, and Yolanda also found it strange.
"She ran out of money." Noah spoke with resignation, "She even sold her house, claiming they blackmailed her out of ten million there."
Lola and Yolanda exchanged glances, silently coming to a mutual understanding.
"Was Melissa present at the time?"
"Melissa and Cooper were both there. It was Cooper who called the police."
"That’s brilliant." Lola couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up repeatedly, "This Melissa is simply ruthless to the extreme, even killing her own mother when necessary."
Noah was somewhat surprised, "You suspect Melissa killed Eliana?"
Pushing the blame onto the dead and receiving Cooper’s sympathy..." Adam Sterling clicked his tongue twice, "If this is true, all I can say is Melissa is a master among masters."
