Chapter 165: Chapter 165 Yolanda Greenwood hesitantly called out "Daddy
Lola Gold and Noah Coldson exchanged a glance.
"Don’t worry, I won’t wake her up," Jaxon Greenwood’s tone even had a hint of pleading.
Lola Gold was struck in an instant; the man before her was entirely like an old father who had just lost his love, and inside, lay his daughter.
Even though Jaxon Greenwood didn’t know the truth, she had no right to stop them from being together.
"Okay, Uncle Greenwood, please go in. We’ll be waiting outside. If you need anything, just call us."
Jaxon Greenwood nodded, pushed the door open, and went in.
Upon closer inspection, he saw that the child’s eyes were indeed slightly moist, and even the pillow had a small tearstain.
Jaxon Greenwood’s heart skipped a beat for no reason, and he took out a handkerchief he kept close by, gently wiping Yolanda Greenwood’s eyes.
Outside the hospital room, Lola Gold and Noah Coldson also felt a twinge in their noses as they saw this scene.
The two returned to their seats.
"The thing about blood relations is truly miraculous. Uncle Greenwood and Aunt Morgan have always liked Yolanda a lot, especially Aunt Morgan. Yolanda always says she’s even better than her mother."
"Do you think Uncle Greenwood knows?"
Lola Gold shook her head. "Probably not."
Jaxon Greenwood’s reaction didn’t seem like he knew the truth, but... Lola Gold thought of a possibility, "I think Aunt Morgan might have been worried about the father and daughter before she passed away. Even if she couldn’t speak plainly, she might have left some instructions."
Thinking about these things made Lola Gold feel even worse.
Poor Aunt Morgan, she never got to hear Yolanda call her ’mom’ before she died, and that too would be a life-long regret for Yolanda Greenwood.
Inside the hospital room, Jaxon Greenwood realized that the tears at Yolanda’s eyes just wouldn’t dry up; it was as though the child had fallen into a terrible nightmare.
He just couldn’t bear to see her like this, hesitating whether he should wake her up.
Unexpectedly, at that moment, Yolanda seemed to sense something and woke up.
Blearily, she saw Jaxon Greenwood sitting by the bed, thinking she was still dreaming, crying and saying, "Eldest Aunt, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault, you can hit me, just hit me."
Jaxon Greenwood furrowed his brows. "Child, wake up. What’s wrong with you?"
Yolanda was confused for a moment. Was it really just a dream? Her father would never speak to her with such a soft and tender voice, right?
Hesitantly, she called out, "Daddy!"
Jaxon Greenwood felt as if he had been struck by lightning, sitting there motionless, staring at Yolanda Greenwood in shock.
Before his eyes, he saw images of the child growing up, babbling as a baby, taking her first stumbling steps... wearing a clean ponytail... transform into a beautiful young woman of eighteen...
Jaxon Greenwood never knew his memory was this good; he could recall everything about the child so clearly.
After cautiously calling out just once and seeing no response, Yolanda began to feel remorseful.
She lowered her head and apologized in a soft voice, "I’m sorry."
It wasn’t until this moment that Jaxon Greenwood finally understood something. Deep down in his heart, he had always wanted a daughter like Yolanda.
As a father, however, he subconsciously buried this thought, treating Melissa Greenwood even better in compensation.
In the end... In an instant, Jaxon Greenwood felt truly sorry for his Melissa.
"Yolanda, look carefully, I’m your Eldest Aunt," he finally spoke.
Probably because he looked somewhat like his younger brother, the child had mistaken him for her father in that moment.
Yolanda was taken aback for a moment and then came to her senses, realizing she wasn’t dreaming, Jaxon Greenwood had really come.
She frantically tried to sit up, "Eldest Aunt!"
"Stay down," Jaxon Greenwood gently pressed on her shoulders.
"I’m okay, really, I’m okay," Yolanda insisted on getting up.
Jaxon Greenwood supported her, helping her to sit up, and asked with concern, "Did you just have a nightmare?"
"En." Yolanda Greenwood quickly lowered her head, her eyes reddening again.
She had just dreamed...
"What did you dream about?" Jaxon hadn’t expected Jaxon to take the initiative to ask.
Yolanda looked up in surprise as she had thought that every encounter with Jaxon would remain as tense as before, that they would always be that way.
Instead of answering Jaxon’s question, she carefully inquired, "Uncle, how is Eldest Aunt doing?"
She studied Jaxon’s expression closely.
Jaxon let out a light chuckle, "You silly child, did you dream about your Eldest Aunt?"
Yolanda bit her lower lip hard, not daring to recall the dream.
"You silly child, dreams are just the opposite of reality," Jaxon said, shifting his gaze and shaking his head. "Your Eldest Aunt is alright now."
"Really?" Yolanda was overjoyed.
Jaxon nodded emphatically, "She saw the messages you sent, the calls you made, but she’s still weak. Yet, she’s worried about you, so she sent me to come and tell you in person."
"Really?" Yolanda found it unbelievable.
"Of course. Would your uncle lie to you?" Jaxon said, tugging at Yolanda’s blanket. "Yolanda, take good care of yourself. Once you’re better, you should go see your Eldest Aunt, okay?"
His voice strained a little, "Your Eldest Aunt misses you a lot."
Jaxon knew that Gemma Morgan had died without seeing Yolanda, and she truly left with regrets.
Perhaps, in some mysterious way, Gemma, like him, favored Yolanda more, but fate had its cruel twists.
"Okay, Uncle. When I’m well, I will definitely go see Eldest Aunt." Yolanda couldn’t stop her tears from falling.
"What are you crying for, child?"
"I’m happy, so happy," Yolanda sniffled. "Uncle, aren’t you angry with me anymore?"
Jaxon shook his head, "Silly child, there were some misunderstandings before, and I even hit you that day, I apologize to you."
"It’s okay, I’m not angry. You were just too worried about Eldest Aunt, I understand."
"Good child, our Yolanda is such a good child." Jaxon felt an ache in his heart.
Ever since the argument about the marriage, his daughter, Melissa Greenwood, hadn’t come home.
As a father, he felt deep sorrow.
In truth, when Melissa was very young, he and Gemma had felt that she had a problematic character, so they did everything they could to educate her. As Melissa grew up, she seemed to become much more sensible.
But now, looking back, Jaxon realized that Melissa might not have become sensible, but instead learned how to disguise her true self.
Now that her mother Gemma was gone, perhaps Melissa no longer wanted to have much to do with her father, and that’s why she had shown her true colors.
Thinking of all this, Jaxon was immensely saddened.
If Gemma could see all this from beyond, to see him alone and heartbroken, she would surely rest uneasy.
Regarding the marriage, Jaxon felt he had no choice but to compromise.
"Yolanda," he began with an apology in his voice, "Uncle knows you are carrying Cooper Coldson’s child, but... Melissa is marrying Cooper tomorrow, Uncle wants to know, what are your plans?"
Yolanda was stunned, was it tomorrow already? So soon?
"Uncle, don’t worry. This is my own child. It has nothing to do with Cooper or the Coldson Family. I won’t let Cooper know."
Jaxon nodded, "You’ve been wronged! If Melissa did anything to hurt you, Uncle apologizes on her behalf."
He stood up, bowed deeply at the bedside to Yolanda on the bed.
