Chapter 163: Chapter 163 His End Will Only Be Worse Than Cooper Coldson
The other end of the line suddenly went silent.
Even from such a distance, Yolanda could feel an overwhelming pressure that made it hard to breathe.
She waited a while, and seeing that Cooper Coldson did not speak or hang up, she tentatively called out, "Cooper? Are you still there?"
Silence still reigned on the other side.
Just as Yolanda was about to hang up, she finally heard a voice.
"Uh-huh."
Then there was silence again.
Yolanda held the phone, somewhat uneasy, "Cooper, I’m really sorry, I genuinely couldn’t make it on the day of the cooling-off period for our divorce. I am currently..."
She paused, then decided to lie again, "I’m out of town right now, let’s get in touch when I get back, and we can apply for the divorce then, okay?"
After a pause, the other party coldly replied, "Melissa and I will proceed with our wedding as planned."
"Congratulations to you both," Yolanda gasped.
"This is Melissa’s mother’s..." Suddenly, someone took Yolanda’s phone away before she could hear the rest.
She looked up in surprise, Noah Coldson had returned.
"Cooper’s call?"
Yolanda nodded, giving a bitter smile, "He’s marrying Melissa Greenwood, it’s my fault they were delayed in getting their license."
"I’ll handle it; you lie down," Noah said, taking the phone and leaving.
Outside, he realized the call was still ongoing, and Coldson definitely knew the person had changed, yet he still had not hung up.
Noah remembered his agreement with Yolanda Greenwood and brought the phone to his ear, "On the day of the divorce cooling-off period, I was with Yolanda, and some issues arose; she couldn’t make it, I apologize on her behalf."
"Apologize? What right do you have?" Cooper’s voice was strained to its limit.
"Because the person she’s with now is me," Noah calmly replied, "If you need anything in the future, call me instead of her."
Cooper gripped his phone tightly, "Noah, you really don’t care about the Coldson family, do you?"
"Cooper, are you trying to say that Yolanda is your ex-wife, and I shouldn’t be involved with my former sister-in-law?" Noah chuckled lightly, "If that’s your concern, then let me tell you I don’t care. I only care about her."
The call was quickly disconnected.
Noah slowly exhaled, not sure what he was doing; perhaps one day his end would be worse than Cooper’s.
Back in the hospital room, he returned the phone to Yolanda.
"Don’t worry, Cooper is not angry anymore. When you’re feeling better, you two can go through the procedures."
"Oh, okay," Yolanda took the phone, struggling for a moment before speaking, "Elder brother, next time let me handle it myself, it’s okay."
Noah’s expression changed slightly, and after a moment of silence, he slightly bowed his head, "Sorry, I shouldn’t have taken your phone like that."
Yolanda shook her head, "It’s nothing; I was also afraid that Cooper would be too angry and drag you into it too."
Lola Gold soon returned; she had bought some light porridge and side dishes.
After eating, Yolanda texted Gemma Morgan.
"Eldest Aunt, how are you?"
However, she received no response until the evening.
Yolanda couldn’t help but become worried again, "Lola, I sent my mom a message, but she hasn’t replied. She isn’t still seriously ill, is she?"
"It should be fine." Lola soothed her softly, "Maybe Melissa is there, and she couldn’t reply."
Yolanda nodded; it had also happened before that she would send Gemma messages that might take a day to get a response.
Thus, before going to sleep, Yolanda sent another message.
"Eldest Aunt, if possible, give me a call back, I..."
She hesitated before continuing, "I am really worried about you."
Yolanda knew if she expressed herself this way, Gemma would try to find a way to contact her.
She couldn’t explain why, but she was really worried.
That night, Yolanda dreamed of Gemma again.
She dreamed of Gemma at her deathbed, kneeling beside her bed, holding her hand.
Gemma apologized to her, hoped she could be happy, and said... if there was another life, they would surely be mother and daughter again.
When Yolanda woke up the next day, her pillow was half-soaked.
Lola looked worried, "Yolanda, what did you dream about? You were crying the whole time."
Yolanda spaced out for a while before immediately searching for her phone, only to find, once again, her message to Gemma had vanished into oblivion.
She couldn’t stay still.
"Lola, something must have happened to my mom," Yolanda struggled to get out of bed, "I need to go see her."
"Yolanda, don’t get worked up, you need to lie down," Lola pressed her down gently.
"Lola, let me go, or I might regret it for the rest of my life," Yolanda pleaded, eyes reddening.
But how could Lola let her go? If Yolanda went, something sure to happen, and Lola would blame herself forever.
The situation was such that it was best to delay as long as possible, trying to allow Yolanda’s health a few more days of recovery.
"Yolanda, listen to me, even if your mom is not in good condition now, you can’t help by going."
Lola was near tears, "Yolanda, think about yourself and the baby."
Yolanda kept shaking her head, she really couldn’t wait, she was so afraid.
"I must go, Lola, I must."
Knowing she couldn’t stop Yolanda, Lola spoke after a moment’s thought, "Alright, Yolanda, you lie down first, I’ll go and inquire about the situation, trying to get your mom to call you back soon, okay?"
Yolanda hesitated.
"Yolanda, trust me, Dr. Hall said you shouldn’t get out of bed now, I promise, I’ll definitely get you in touch with your mom."
Lola’s gaze was firm.
"Okay," Yolanda finally complied, "Lola, thank you for this, but I am really worried about my mom."
"I understand, I understand, I’m on my way," Lola left and immediately went to find Noah.
"What should we do?" she paced anxiously, "They have that mother-daughter intuition, Yolanda probably already senses something; we might not be able to keep it from her for long."
Noah frowned deeply, "That phone should still be around, right?"
"What phone?" Lola suddenly understood, "You mean Aunt Morgan’s phone? It should still be there, probably... with Uncle Greenwood."
She had heard Yolanda mention that Jaxon Greenwood and Gemma had a particularly deep relationship, so all of Gemma’s belongings would definitely be with Jaxon.
"Then let’s ask Uncle Greenwood for help, to have him pretend to be Aunt Morgan and reply to Yolanda’s messages."
Lola immediately shook her head, "You don’t understand, Jaxon... it’s all because of that damned Melissa, always stirring things up, Jaxon... has a big problem with Yolanda."
Noah remembered, no wonder in the hospital, Jaxon had hit Yolanda without any reason.
But now, other than seeking Jaxon’s help, there was no other way.
He still felt they should try, "I’ll go see Jaxon."
