Chapter 158: Chapter 158: You’re Carrying Your Mother’s Vengeful Spirit
Noah couldn’t get around Yolanda; he could only support her as they went into the elevator towards the resuscitation room.
Yolanda still appeared very weak, her whole body swaying as if she would faint at any moment.
When the two of them appeared at the entrance to the resuscitation room, they saw Jaxon Greenwood and Melissa Greenwood already there.
Jaxon sprang to his feet in an instant, striding over with anger surging across his face.
Seeing this, Noah worriedly attempted to shield Yolanda behind him, but she stopped him.
She shook her head and said in a soft voice, "It’s okay."
But to Noah, the look on Jaxon’s face suggested an ill-intentioned visitor, and he hesitated, "Yolanda..."
"It’s really okay," Yolanda pushed Noah away weakly.
Looking at Jaxon, she asked, "Uncle, how is Eldest Aunt doing?"
"Do you even have the face to ask?" Jaxon could barely contain his fury. His hand shot up, and he slapped her—a swift and precise strike. "If it weren’t for you..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Yolanda collapsed.
"Yolanda, Yolanda!" Noah caught her just in time, only to find that she had already passed out.
He quickly lifted her horizontally into his arms, furious as he glared at Jaxon, "Do you have any idea how..."
Jaxon’s complexion changed; he hadn’t expected Yolanda to faint.
Melissa had said that Gemma Morgan was critically ill because she had given blood to Yolanda. So, he was very angry with Yolanda.
But he never thought that a slap from him would knock her out cold.
"Yolanda was already weak. Upon hearing that Aunt Morgan needed blood, she rushed over without a second thought," Noah’s voice trembled with rage. "Can’t you see she can’t even stand properly? How could you bring yourself to hit her?"
Jaxon staggered, the reality hitting him; he genuinely hadn’t known. He had just been too angry.
"You’ll regret this," Noah carried Yolanda away quickly. He was genuinely concerned about the child in Yolanda’s belly—what if the child was lost? Could Yolanda endure that?
Jaxon was filled with remorse, looking at Melissa beside him with a self-reproaching expression. "I didn’t mean to knock her out. What’s wrong with her, exactly?"
"I don’t know," Melissa said without concern. "Dad, you don’t need to worry about her."
"Melissa, how can you say such a thing?" Jaxon chastised. "Regardless of what she did before, she came to the hospital now to donate blood to your mother. We should be grateful."
He was even more regretful. "But I hit her without knowing the facts. I’m such a..."
"Dad!" Melissa was frustrated. "If Mom hadn’t given her blood, she wouldn’t be in critical condition. She’s just paying her debts by coming here now."
"How can you think like that?" Jaxon still disagreed.
He had felt that Melissa had changed since he came back, and now it was more obvious.
"Melissa, you must never say such things in front of your mother. She’s someone who truly knows gratitude," Jaxon reminded her.
"And thinking like that, it’s no wonder you’ll spend a lifetime being used by others," Melissa felt she had had enough.
"What did you just say?" Jaxon questioned, wondering if he had misunderstood.
"I said you and Mom are right. I’m going to see how Yolanda is doing," said Melissa, without looking back as she left.
She headed straight for the fifth floor, the obstetrics and gynecology department, and sure enough, she saw Noah hurrying out of a patient room, seemingly on the phone.
Without hesitation, Melissa quickly went into the patient room where only the nurse was present; Yolanda had awoken.
She approached rapidly, "Nurse, I’m a family member. I would like to have a word alone with her."
The nurse looked at Yolanda, who gave a slight nod in agreement; she also had things she wanted to ask Melissa face-to-face.
After the nurse left, Melissa moved to the bedside, her gaze full of jealousy and resentment as she looked at Yolanda’s belly.
"The bastard inside you really has a hard life."
Yolanda instinctively protected her belly and struggled to sit up. "Melissa Greenwood, there’s no need to be smug. I know everything."
"What?" Melissa felt a bad premonition. "What do you know?"
"Why Cooper Coldson would marry you!"
Melissa clenched the railing of the bed, "Did Noah tell you?"
"It’s none of your business." Yolanda spoke slowly, "Melissa Greenwood, is it fun to play the thief?"
She grew increasingly agitated, "In your life, you’ve stolen my parents, my identity, and now my lover. Melissa, aren’t you afraid of retribution?"
"Ha-ha-ha..." Melissa laughed with delight, "Retribution? Yolanda, look at yourself now, think about everything you’ve been through. Who do you think is really suffering retribution?"
Her laughter subsided, and she spoke in a sinister tone, "Or perhaps, you committed too many sins in a past life, and this life is your retribution."
Yolanda clenched the thin blanket tightly, glaring fiercely at Melissa.
Melissa smirked, "What? Did you come here today to tell Cooper the truth?"
"What do you think?" Yolanda gave an ambiguous answer.
"Enough, I don’t have time to waste here with you." Melissa spoke as if she didn’t care.
She stepped forward, looking down at Yolanda’s belly, "Yolanda, your mother might not live much longer. This bastard in your belly really seems to be her death knell!"
"You!" Hearing this, Yolanda’s complexion turned deathly pale.
She struggled to sit up, bracing herself against the bed, "Melissa Greenwood, if you dare do anything to my mother, I will definitely tell Cooper the truth, definitely!"
She could feel the blood gushing out from underneath her, as she mustered her strength to stare at Melissa.
Melissa, looking at Yolanda’s sweat-drenched face, finally smiled with satisfaction and left the room.
It seemed Gemma would need to stay a bit longer.
As she went outside, she saw Noah arriving with several doctors and a stretcher, seemingly about to move Yolanda.
Melissa conveniently stepped aside and then looked at Noah, "Big brother, do you want to talk?"
"There’s nothing to talk about," Noah didn’t want to engage with her.
"Noah!" Melissa spoke again, "What if Cooper and Yolanda find out that you played a part in their kidnapping? Would they still accept you as their big brother?"
Noah paused, his steps faltering, "What exactly do you want?"
"Just a couple of words. It won’t delay you from saving your beloved." Melissa walked towards the stairwell.
Noah glanced at the others and ordered, "Go inside, get her into the ambulance, I’ll be right back."
He took broad steps into the stairwell, "Spit it out! I only have two minutes for you!"
"Hehe..." Melissa chuckled softly, "Big brother, I’ve told you before, your target is Yolanda, mine is Cooper. We can work together."
"I won’t cooperate with you!" Noah declined, his refusal crisp and clear.
Melissa smiled, "You will unless... you’re willing to be expelled from the Coldson family and want Yolanda to see your true face!"
