Chapter 15: Chapter 15 The Free Babysitter Doesn’t Come Without Cost

Jenny Reyes was on the brink of a meltdown; she had no clue how many more skeletons Yolanda Greenwood had in her closet or how much trouble they could cause her.

"Miss White..." She was about to say something to remedy the situation when Yolanda, who had been silent the whole time, spoke up.

"Athena White!" Yolanda could no longer contain herself.

The events of the past had concluded with Athena marrying Cooper Coldson. To everyone, she was the one who had come out on top, and it didn’t matter if they didn’t believe her.

But why on earth would they suspect her of foul play at the welcome party?

"The incident at the welcome party has nothing to do with me."

"Hahaha..." Athena burst into laughter. "It has nothing to do with you? Who would believe that!"

"You’ve done it before, and you’ll do it again. Yolanda, a leopard can’t change its spots."

Yolanda lunged forward with a slap.

"Smack!"

"You dare hit me?" Athena stared at Yolanda in disbelief. "You lowlife, you dare hit me?"

She threw her bag and charged forward, "Lowlife, I’m not done with you."

But Yolanda wasn’t someone to be trifled with; unlike the delicate lady Athena, she had learned a lot from her year married to Cooper Coldson, without compensation.

Before long, she had grabbed Athena by the hair and pinned her down.

"Ah ah ah... Murderer!!!"

Yolanda yanked on Athena’s hair forcefully, "Shut up!"

Athena’s tears streamed down, and she suddenly didn’t dare to make a sound.

"Listen to me, what happened at the welcome party was the doing of your friends. If you don’t believe it, you can ask Melissa Greenwood."

"How is that possible?" Athena shrieked again, "Cooper Coldson, who would dare mess with him? They’d be asking to have their legs broken at home."

Yolanda was taken aback.

"Yolanda?" It was unclear who notified Melissa Greenwood but she rushed over in a hurry, "Let her go, there could be some misunderstanding here, release her first."

She tugged at Yolanda’s hand and pulled her up.

Once free, Athena regained her arrogance, "Yolanda, just you wait, this isn’t over."

She quickly straightened out her clothes and made a swift exit.

"Yolanda, I didn’t know Athena would come, I..." Melissa started to explain anxiously.

Yolanda looked at her, repeating Athena’s words in her mind.

Athena and her clique were close. If someone from their group had drugged Cooper, Athena would have known.

She cut Melissa off, "What exactly happened at the welcome party that day?"

Melissa’s gaze flickered away, "Yolanda, I’ll explain this to you later."

She then apologized to Jenny Reyes, "Manager Reyes, I’m really sorry about today’s events, I say sorry on Yolanda’s behalf."

"Why should I apologize when I’m not in the wrong?" Yolanda glared defiantly, "If anyone should be apologizing for Athena’s disturbance, it’s Director Greenwood on behalf of her friend."

Melissa hesitated briefly, then quickly caught on, "Yes, yes, all of this is private and shouldn’t interfere with the work and the company."

Jenny’s frown deepened. Melissa was correct, although this was a private matter, it had affected the company.

Especially Yolanda herself. If her morals were compromised, it could tarnish the company’s reputation.

"Director Greenwood, no need to apologize for them," Jenny said, looking at Yolanda, "Yolanda, today’s events originated with you, take a few days off to reflect at home."

"Why should I?" Yolanda was unable to accept this.

"Because I am your direct superior and the things you have done, if they got out, could harm the company’s reputation." Jenny had made up her mind, "Either you go back now and wait for further notice or head to HR to resign and leave immediately."

"..." Yolanda was livid.

Melissa instantly went to pull Yolanda aside, "Yolanda, go back first, listen to your cousin, the company has her."

Yolanda silently looked at Melissa.

"Behave; if you really fall out with Jenny Reyes, there’ll be no turning back."

Melissa pulled Yolanda into the elevator.

"I can’t believe how outrageous Athena is, so impulsive and brainless..." She turned her head to look at Yolanda, "Yolanda, why aren’t you talking? Are you angry with your cousin?"

"Not at all." Yolanda watched the numbers on the elevator display descend.

She felt as though the grip of a giant hand was slowly exposing itself in the background.

"Cousin, who drugged Cooper that day? Why is Athena so sure it was me?" She stared unwaveringly at Melissa.

"Don’t take Athena’s words to heart, she’s like a mad dog that bites randomly."

"Then who was it?"

"Yolanda, this isn’t something to be proud of, and since they did it for me, I can’t reveal who it was."

"Can’t tell? Or is there really no one?"

"Yolanda, what are you implying?"

Yolanda averted her gaze, "If Cooper was drugged back then, the biggest beneficiary would have been me, which is why everyone suspects me. So..."

She looked back at Melissa, "On the day of the welcome party, the sole beneficiary would have been you, cousin."

"Yolanda, how can you think of your cousin that way?" Melissa looked as though she was about to cry.

"No, I’m just following their logic," Yolanda forced a smile, "Don’t get me wrong, cousin, I have no other intention, but you should also believe that it wasn’t me who did it at your birthday party."

As the elevator doors opened, she gave a final word to Melissa, "I hope, cousin, that if you get the chance, you also clear this up with Cooper."

"Cousin, goodbye." Yolanda left swiftly.

Melissa was seething with hatred.

One year ago, she had chosen Yolanda, convinced that the girl had no backup and with the cooperation of Eliana Reed, it would have been unthinkable to pick anyone else.

She never expected this stubborn wretch to still be contemplating overturning the past events.

No way!

Yolanda knew that her prospects were bleak; no company would want an employee who continuously caused trouble.

She didn’t feel like returning to Lola Gold, so she wandered aimlessly and finally arrived at the Coldson Group building.

She found a chair to sit on and sent a WeChat message to Cooper Coldson.

Ever since Cooper had told her he would find her whenever needed, she had heard nothing.

"Can you spare ten minutes, Young Master Coldson? To get a divorce."

Read, not replied.

"I’ve already agreed to leave with nothing, you won’t lose anything."

Read, not replied.

"Just say it was your idea to the public, and I’ll take responsibility at the old house. Young Master Coldson, are you coming or not? Just give me a straight answer!"

Read, not replied.

Yolanda poked at her phone in frustration, almost wanting to punch a hole through the screen.

"Cooper Coldson, replying to messages is a fundamental courtesy!"

At the top floor of Coldson Group, Cooper Coldson stood before the vast floor-to-ceiling windows, his gaze shifting from the phone to the tiny white dot below.

Strangely enough, from that distance, where he couldn’t even tell genders apart, he recognized the woman instantly.

Yolanda quickly received a reply.

"What are you doing sitting there instead of working?"

"Come up."
