Chapter 145 Cooper, Stop Being a Deserter
Chapter 145: Chapter 145 Cooper, Stop Being a Deserter
"How is Yolanda?" Cooper asked a question off-topic.
"Answer my question," Noah persisted.
Cooper took out his phone and turned to leave.
Noah blocked his path, "Is this question so hard to answer? Even if it was Melissa Greenwood who saved you back then..."
"Big brother!" Cooper interrupted Noah’s words, "I think a deserter has no right to comment on the past."
Hearing the word "deserter," the color drained from Noah’s face.
Cooper shoved him aside.
Noah watched him walk away, then slowly spoke, "Yolanda is fine."
Cooper’s finger hovered over the call button for a moment before he hung up, choosing instead to call Melissa.
The call connected quickly, and Melissa’s weak voice came through, "Cooper? Is it you?"
Cooper frowned, "What’s wrong with you?"
"Cooper, I feel like I’ve done something terribly wrong," Melissa said, the sound of her crying clear, "can you call Yolanda for me?"
Cooper grew more puzzled, "What on earth happened today?"
"Didn’t big brother tell you?" Melissa sniffed, "Previously, due to some issues, my dad had a big misunderstanding about Yolanda, so after my mom was discharged from the hospital, she wanted to find a chance for them to reconcile, as well as Yolanda and my third aunt..."
She sighed deeply, "My mom said they’re ultimately family, they couldn’t really sever their ties, so, after discussing it with mom, we arranged to bring them together, but then..."
"What happened?" Cooper’s voice was very low.
"After Yolanda arrived, she was unhappy, and before we even started eating, she said she was feeling unwell, it seemed like food poisoning, and asked big brother to take her away."
Melissa’s tone was filled with fear and trepidation, "When big brother left, he was very angry. He was holding Yolanda, and the third aunt said Yolanda had to get married, blocking them from leaving, but big brother... who could stop him?"
Cooper’s grip on his phone tightened, realizing that Yolanda Greenwood and Noah were getting too close.
"Cooper, you have to believe me, I really wanted to help, especially for my mom, she has always liked Yolanda, and I wanted to make my mom happy."
"It’s okay, it’s not your fault," Cooper’s mood sank even lower, "just remember, Yolanda Greenwood or her family’s issues, you better stay away from them."
He snorted, "Lest your good intentions be mistaken for bad ones."
"I understand," Melissa sniffled, knowing she had been let off the hook.
She asked in a deliberately soft voice, "Cooper, do you think Yolanda is truly with big brother?"
She waited a good while but heard no answer from Cooper, and checking her phone, she realized he had hung up.
"Damn it!" Melissa was sure, Cooper really cared about this matter. He... he couldn’t have fallen for Yolanda Greenwood, could he?
No way, she wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen.
After hanging up the phone, Cooper found that Noah was still in the living room.
He thought back to what Melissa had said, it was Noah who had carried Yolanda away, and he felt a sudden irritation.
"Big brother, what exactly do you want to do? Have you really fallen for Yolanda?"
Noah was still deep in his previous emotions; indeed, he had been a deserter, and he had been away for nearly twenty years.
Now he was back, would he continue to flee?
He looked up at Cooper, "Cooper, I am truly sorry for the things that happened back then."
"The things that happened back then?" Cooper chuckled disdainfully, "Are you talking about the kidnapping, or your decision to go abroad?"
Noah paused, "Both, I guess."
"Heh," Cooper said with a sneer, "If it’s about the kidnapping, then be better to Melissa. As for going abroad, go apologize to grandfather and mom."
Noah hung his head.
"I just asked you a question, what’s your answer?" Cooper wouldn’t let him off.
Noah was silent for a while before slowly lifting his head, "Cooper, I don’t want to run anymore."
Cooper frowned.
"Cooper, no matter what you say, no matter what you think, I will protect Yolanda," Noah stood up.
Cooper stepped forward, "Why? How long have you known her, do you really understand her?"
"Cooper, ask yourself, you’ve known Yolanda for so long, what do you think she is like?"
Cooper didn’t respond.
Noah kept his gaze fixed on him, "Cooper, listen to your older brother’s advice, don’t run away from your most genuine thoughts within, you can’t imagine the cost of being a deserter."
Cooper watched Noah leave, repeatedly asking himself, was he really running away?
"Clicks his tongue, the two brothers get into a fight over a girl, I’ve really seen quite a drama." Unexpectedly, Christopher Coldson walked out from the kitchen.
He swayed the bottle and glass in his hand, "Dear Family Head, would you like to have a drink with me?"
Cooper huffed, "Uncle Christopher’s visits to the old mansion have been pretty frequent lately."
"Is that so?" Christopher started pouring himself a drink, "Maybe I’m a deserter too."
Cooper sat down, took a glass, and drank it in one gulp.
Both men drank silently, one glass after another.
"Cooper," Christopher was the first to speak up, "what really is love?"
Cooper laughed; after the upheaval Christopher and Sunny Coldson had caused in the Coldson Family, he thought his uncle would understand love more than anyone else.
Could it be he was just as confused?
After a glass of liquor, Christopher faced Cooper’s mocking gaze and grimaced with a bitter smile.
"I know what you are thinking, at that time, I thought I had encountered love, that I could give up everything for one person."
"And now?" Cooper finally spoke, "Do you regret it?"
Christopher shook his head, "If Sunny wants my life, she can take it anytime."
Cooper frowned, clearly not understanding Christopher’s words.
Christopher would die for Sunny, but he was questioning if he truly loved her. Wasn’t that contradictory?
Christopher drank another glass, "But recently, I’ve discovered, I can give her my life, but I can’t control my heart to only think of her."
He suddenly put down his glass, leaned on the table, and buried his head in his arms.
Cooper watched for a while, then shockingly noticed Christopher’s shoulders trembling; was the guy... crying?
He was incredulous; in all his years, he’d never seen Christopher cry.
Back when Christopher and Sunny’s affair was exposed, Christopher was beaten so severely he spent a month in the hospital, and even the family head had threatened to disown him, yet he always seemed indifferent.
And now, just because he missed Lola Gold, this carefree uncle was crying in front of him?
For a moment, Cooper’s emotions were mixed.
He put down his glass and staggered upstairs.
After a cold shower, he took out his phone and sent a WeChat message.
"Let’s get married."
What he didn’t notice was that the recipient was Yolanda Greenwood.
