Chapter 141: Chapter 141 She’s Pregnant, the Child Can’t Stay
Yolanda Greenwood had been engrossed in the invitation in her hand when someone suddenly bumped into her, giving her no time to react.
Her first instinct was to protect her belly from the oncoming collision, fearing for the child inside...
Her body reacted faster than her brain, and before the person could hit her, Yolanda fell backward, landing on her back on the ground.
She gasped in pain and, upon regaining her focus, realized that the perpetrator was a colleague from her workplace.
"Group Leader Greenwood, are you okay?" The colleague reached out a hand, attempting to help Yolanda up.
At that moment, Sophie Taylor, who was passing by, rushed forward and helped Yolanda to her feet, noticing her pale face, "Yolanda, are you okay?"
Yolanda shook her head. She looked at the colleague across from her, "What’s your name? Which group are you from?"
"No way, I didn’t do it on purpose, and you still hold a grudge against me?" The male colleague huffed, "Is it because the president favors you?"
"Cut the crap." Sophie immediately exploded, "This is an office. Are you blind to bump into someone?"
The male colleague became rowdy again, "I didn’t knock her over; she fell on her own."
"Nobody believes you." Sophie looked at Yolanda, "His name is Brian Taylor, currently in Even’s group, also a Painter."
She whispered a reminder, "He was a lackey of Melissa Greenwood previously."
Yolanda gave him another glance. Everything had happened so suddenly, yet her intuition was that Brian Taylor had indeed aimed for her belly. Or was she just being overly sensitive?
"Forget it, I’m fine." Yolanda gave Brian another reminder, "Be more careful when you walk around the office."
"Got it, Group Leader Greenwood." Brian quickly curled his lips into a smile and left as if nothing had happened.
He went to the restroom and made a call, "Sis, I just deliberately bumped into her, but she was very cautious, and I didn’t hit her belly."
On the other end of the phone, Melissa Greenwood’s voice was emotionless, "She seems to cherish the child quite a bit."
"Yeah, she obviously treasures it a lot." Brian scoffed disdainfully, "Shameless."
"Alright, just be careful yourself, and let me know her moves in the company as soon as possible." After hanging up, Melissa sent twenty thousand yuan to him.
That day, Sunny Coldson reminded her that Cooper Coldson had gone to Ully Town, and she immediately had someone check it out.
Soon she found that Yolanda Greenwood was also in Ully Town and had been hospitalized. After obtaining the medical records from that hospital, she was shocked to find out that Yolanda was indeed pregnant.
She knew that the child must belong to Cooper Coldson, so it could not be allowed to remain.
Fortunately, Cooper was unaware of the child’s existence, and Yolanda clearly did not want Cooper to know either.
"Melissa," the voice of Jaxon Greenwood came from behind her, "everything is packed."
"Alright." Melissa Greenwood snapped out of her thoughts. Today was the day Gemma Morgan was discharged from the hospital, and perhaps it was time to let mother and daughter meet.
On the way home, she took the initiative to suggest, "Dad, Mom, we haven’t seen Yolanda for a while. Let’s invite her over this week, shall we?"
Gemma Morgan looked at her with mild surprise.
"Why invite her?" Jaxon flatly rejected, "How many times has she visited your mom during her hospitalization?"
Gemma couldn’t help but defend Yolanda, "The child is probably too busy with work."
"Right, since Uncle is no longer with us, we are still family after all." Melissa smiled, "Mom’s right, let’s be more accommodating."
Jaxon said no more, indeed, Yolanda was a child of the Greenwood Family; they couldn’t avoid her forever.
He just felt cold inside; the child was too ungrateful.
However, Gemma didn’t believe a single word from Melissa; having Yolanda over, there definitely wouldn’t be any good intentions.
"Mom means that the child must be busy, we don’t need to invite her over specially."
Looking over with a threatening glance, Melissa did not try to persuade Gemma further.
After they arrived home and the mother-and-daughter were alone, Melissa said with a chuckle, "There’s something I think I should tell you."
Gemma’s whole body tensed up, having developed an innate fear of Melissa over the days.
With a few steps, Melissa came closer and lowered her voice, "Actually, Yolanda is your real child with Jaxon."
What?
Gemma’s mind buzzed, and she could barely make out what Melissa was saying next.
Continuing on, Melissa said, "You can check this yourself, Yolanda knows it too."
Gemma looked at her dazed, "What... what do you want to do?"
Melissa wouldn’t tell her this for no reason.
Shivering, she asked, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell your father these things?"
"Heh..." Melissa scoffed with disdain, "Dare you? If you did, I’d make sure Yolanda suffers terribly, and I’m not afraid because I’ve got nothing to lose. Besides, I have the Coldson Family’s support; you can’t beat me!"
Gemma bit her lip; Melissa wasn’t wrong.
Both Jaxon and Yolanda were sincere and kind-hearted, unable to compete with someone as villainous as Melissa.
Gemma didn’t want them to become like Melissa.
"So, what exactly do you want to do?" she asked again.
"That’s none of your business," Melissa tugged at the corner of her mouth, "Consider it an opportunity I’m giving you to mend their father-daughter relationship."
Gemma’s face was pale, still disbelieving Melissa’s words.
Just then, Jaxon entered, "What secret conversation are you two having now?"
"Mom’s gone soft again; she wants me to invite Yolanda over." Melissa declared.
Jaxon shook his head, "You’re too soft, Melissa. Dad’s telling you, don’t be like your mother, or you’ll get bullied by anyone."
"Got it," Melissa hooked her arm around Jaxon’s, smirking at Gemma.
Gemma felt cold sweats breaking out one after the other, her complexion growing increasingly worse.
Noticing this, Jaxon immediately stepped forward with concern, "What’s the matter? Your face looks so pale just after being discharged."
"It’s nothing, maybe I’m just a little tired." Gemma held back her emotions and looked at the two, "You two go ahead, I’ll lie down for a bit."
"I’ll stay with you," Jaxon said, not reassured.
"I’m really fine." Gemma just wanted to be alone for a while.
So, Jaxon and Melissa left together.
Once they were gone, Jaxon looked at Melissa somewhat reproachfully, "Melissa, since I’ve come back, I’ve really felt that you don’t care about your mother as much as before."
He sighed, "I know a daughter won’t stay forever, and your heart is already with the Coldson Family, but don’t forget who raised you."
"Dad..." Melissa wanted to explain, but Jaxon had already turned and walked away.
She ground her teeth in hatred, then went outside and made a call to Eliana Reed.
"Come to my house this weekend."
"Huh?" Eliana didn’t quite understand.
"Gemma’s been discharged," said Melissa, her mood foul, "I suggested inviting you and Yolanda over."
Eliana laughed dryly, "I haven’t contacted that little wretch for so long, she won’t come with me."
"You come on your own; she on her own. She doesn’t know I’ve invited you."
Impatient, Melissa added, "She’s pregnant, and the child can’t stay."
