Chapter 133: Chapter 133 How Do You Usually Serve Richard Reyes

Yolanda Greenwood and Lola Gold had planned to stay in Ully Town for a while, so they had given up their houses in Gray City.

Now, a sudden return was definitely out of the question.

But Yolanda also knew they couldn’t live in the Ross Family’s home forever; they needed to find their own place in Ully Town, and quickly.

She asked Ruby Ross with a smile, "Aunt Ross, do you want to go back to Gray City? Don’t you want to stay in Ully Town anymore?"

"It’s not that," Ruby shook her head, her gaze resting on the clear stream in front of her. "Yolanda, do you believe it? A person can never change their attachment to their hometown, even if it hasn’t given them many good memories."

Her voice was soft and gentle, a pleasure to listen to. "The hardest times of my life, even when I dreamed, it was of the mountains and rivers of this hometown."

"If it weren’t for Lola," Ruby said with a light smile, "I even thought about just finding a place here to die alone, quietly."

"Aunt Ross!" Yolanda’s heart ached at these words. "Lola and I will always be with you, wherever you want to go."

"If you like Ully Town, we’ll rent a house here and live together." She looked up earnestly. "Aunt Ross, Lola and I are both your daughters; we’ll take good care of you."

"Good child, you really are a good child." Ruby knew some of Yolanda’s struggles and gently touched her head.

After walking a bit more, they suddenly saw the old lady approaching.

"Mom!" Ruby was the first to greet her.

The old lady looked at her with disdain. "You’re not much older than I am and yet you’re already in worse shape than this old lady."

"Granny..." Yolanda looked helplessly at the old lady, hoping she wouldn’t say more.

The old lady glanced disapprovingly at her. "You go back, I’m going to take a walk with your Aunt Ross. We have some private words to exchange."

Yolanda frowned with suspicion.

Private words?

Ever since they had come back, she had never heard the old lady say anything nice.

She smiled and said, "Alright, then I’ll just wander nearby so I won’t disturb your conversation."

"You child..." The old lady was clearly unsatisfied. "What? As her mother, could I really do anything to her? Go on back, we’ll call you if we need you."

Yolanda looked to Ruby.

Ruby nodded.

So Yolanda felt she had no choice but to leave, swinging the phone in her hand. "Then I’ll go back first."

As soon as she left, the old lady pursed her lips in dissatisfaction. "Really thinks she’s something special."

"Mom!" Ruby’s face fell. "Don’t talk about Yolanda like that; she has taken good care of Lola and me for years in Gray City."

"That’s because you’re useless!" The old lady’s face was devoid of any affection. "What did I tell you back then? I said that man wasn’t reliable. I told you to marry Eldest Bennett from our village. Look how well off he is now..."

"Mom!" Ruby’s fist clenched at her side. "Eldest Bennett is fifteen years older than me."

"So what? Older men know how to care for women. Look how good his life is now, with two sons."

The old lady snorted. "If you had given birth to a son, would that bastard have dared to cheat? Would he have dared to leave you with nothing?"

Ruby was nearly at her wits’ end. "He cheated during my pregnancy when he didn’t even know if it was a boy or a girl I was carrying. It has nothing to do with the child’s gender."

"How can it not matter? If you had given birth to a son, he might have repented after his affair!"

Ruby felt so choked up with anger she could barely breathe. "Mom, there are things I didn’t want to say, but the reason you made me marry Eldest Bennett was to help George get on the village committee."

"So what?" The old lady boldly retorted. "If your brother becomes successful, won’t you share in the benefits?"

"Share in the benefits?" Ruby laughed bitterly. "Then tell me, during these years I’ve been away, how much have you, as my mother, benefited?"

The old lady was taken aback. "Are you blind? Don’t you see how well our days are going? Once we get the demolition compensation, George will buy me a big house."

"Indeed, with a big house, you’ll probably want me to move in, don’t you? Otherwise, think of the money you’d have to spend on a nanny!"

As soon as Ruby finished speaking, the old lady slapped her across the face. "How dare you speak to me like that!"

Ruby covered her face, looking incredulously at the woman before her.

This was her mother, the woman who raised her, but also the person who trampled on her from childhood, simply because she was a woman.

For so many years, so many times, she had thought of ending it all, until Lola came along and gave her a reason to live.

"I shouldn’t have come back." At that moment, Ruby knew that nothing had changed during her years away, and it never would.

She tried to gather herself to leave. "We are leaving immediately."

"Stay right there!" the old lady suddenly stepped forward, grabbing Ruby and pulling her back.

Ruby looked at her, confused.

The old lady reluctantly let go. "Stay with me a little longer."

Ruby was even more perplexed. They had just exchanged these harsh words, and it was clear the old lady still despised her, yet she wouldn’t let her leave.

She looked sharply towards the Ross house. "What are you and your son up to?"

She turned to run home, only to be grabbed by the old lady. "What can we do? That Yolanda is just a slut who’s been divorced. If George has taken a fancy to her, it’s her good fortune..."

Ruby felt as if she had plunged into an ice pit, cold sweat poured down as she said, "Let go, let go."

"No." The old lady clung to her tightly, and seeing people gather around, she suddenly started crying out, "Poor old me, my daughter has abandoned me, she doesn’t want to take care of me..."

Ruby hadn’t felt this desperate in a long time. The people around her were just pointing fingers, not helping.

She was unable to return as the old lady held onto her.

Not far from the Ross house, Yolanda had returned and had a glass of water, but now she felt uneasy.

She looked up to see George Ross standing at the door, his gaze toward her somewhat... lecherous?

She got up to close the door, only to find George resisting it with his foot, preventing her from closing it.

"Uncle, I’m tired and would like to rest awhile," Yolanda said, trying hard to suppress her fear and discomfort.

George curled his lips into a smirk, pushed the door open, and entered the room. "Go ahead and rest, I’ll accompany you."

Yolanda frowned. "What are you trying to do? Get out right now!"

"Get out?" George chuckled. "Aren’t you mistaken? This is my house. What right do you have to tell me to leave?"

"Fine, then I’ll leave." Yolanda turned and walked towards the door.

But just as she reached the doorway, George grabbed her from behind and dragged her back.

Yolanda was terrified. "Let go of me, George Ross, you’re insane! Let me go this instant!"

George threw Yolanda onto the bed, and before she could get up, he straddled her and glared at her menacingly.

"Yolanda, drop the innocent act. How do you normally serve that son of a bitch Richard Reyes?"
