Chapter 744 - 744: Crossing the pond Part 2

When Luna attempted to tell Nika about the cryptid responsible for the intense energy signature they felt, the latter covered her ears and started singing loudly in a childish yet successful attempt to not hear her.

Learning about it was of no use since they were far from its reach and there was nothing they could do against a cryptid so powerful anyway and the only thing she had to gain was to become even more frightened.

The flight progressed smoothly and the energy flux signature diminished as they left it behind prompting every hunter aboard to let out a breath they didn't know they've been holding.

After that passed, Uriel was left impressed by how well the Defenders endured the intrusive flux energy signature as he expected one or more of them to pass out, but then he remembered that they too lived in the city of Texas when the titan rank cryptid attacked and they survived.

Due to electronics being unreliable, Captain Roberts had learned how to navigate using the stars, a skill passed on through generations of sailors and since it was dark outside he also made use of the moonlight to spot any cryptids that may be on their way.

As expected, not long after sunset the first wave of attack showed up but the hunters were ready on their posts and opened fire at the unsightly swarmers taking some of them down without issues. Bella and those with the ability to manipulate air went outside and both Uriel and Nika climbed up to the top of the ship to use their weapons.

"Loser pays for drinks!" Nika said before opening fire with the peacemaker Colt with uncanny precision. On ground she could have used the shadows to gain spatial awareness and take aim at the cryptids, but in the sky there were no shadows which meant her accuracy was due solely to her experience and practice.

"Try not to cry when the bill comes up." Uriel said with a smug and then activated his Dash skill to press the trigger, cock the hammer and reload the magnum at an inconceivable speed. Although his aim wasn't perfect like Nika's, Uriel had improved by leaps and bounds due to how much he relied on his firearm and he made up for his lack of precision with an impressive rate of fire.

The fast cadence of the magnum bullets caused it to sound like a machine gun rather than a revolver and a smile was drawn on Uriel's face. The speed of the ship caused the air current to hit Uriel on the face and the high number of enemies caused Uriel to get lost into the thrill of the battle.

Alice remained inside the ship along with the Defenders firing from the open cargo bay at the cryptids that chased after the Sparrow. This time, though, she refrained from using her special arrow and only used store bought ones since she would be unable to retrieve any arrows. Or so she thought until one of the defenders brought them back using his telekinetic ability.

"Thank you!" Alice said.

"It's not a problem, my trait can't cause any damage but I can retrieve the arrows for you and push those things away if they get too close." The man said with a smile hidden beneath his gas mask.

Now that she was able to use the special arrows she crafted using the artifact grade arrowheads. Regular arrows already worked better than bullets since they would not only cause damage, but prevent enemies from regenerating.

It would usually only work with beast rank cryptids, though, since most bows lacked the power needed to pierce through stronger enemies, but Alice's bow allowed her to turn flux into kinetic energy.

However, as soon as Alice started firing the artifact grade arrows things changed and she was able to take down several cryptids with just one shot. Had that been all she would have been at the same level Uriel and Nika were, but Alice's trait allowed to see her whether or not an arrow would hit its mark beforehand which ended up in her being the one who caused the most damage.

Despite swarmers dropping like flies under the unrelenting fire the battle lasted several hours as more cryptids joined the chase and others regenerated shortly after being taken down. When the last beast swarmer was taken down a generalize sigh of relief ensued, though they had to remain alert until daylight and only then were they able to go back to the dormitory.

With nothing to do or even a window to look outside, the flight was becoming increasingly more boring. Not that Uriel thought it was a bad thing, having a boring trip was the best possible scenario for all the passengers.

He had enough 'fun' for what was left of the trip already and was now lamenting himself due to missing out on the countless flux orbs that fell to the sea with no one to catch them as not even the hunter with telekinetic abilities would have been able to since cryptids took some time to vanish.

"I'll take a nap, wake me up if something happens." Uriel said to no one in particular and started snoring not long after, causing some of them to be envious at his ability to fall asleep within seconds.

The ship went on in its way having suffered no damage, though for some reason they started gradually losing altitude. It was slow, but Bella noticed it thanks to her wind manipulation trait and decided to alert the captain who replied with just a slight nod.

"My men are currently working on it, but it seems the engine got overheated. We might need to find land to give it a rest." He replied in an apologetic tone, leaving Bella to wonder if she should wake Uriel up or not.

"Knowing him, he'll get mad at me." She told Nika.

"You don't give him enough credit, he's pretty chill most of the time." Nika shrugged and went to wake him up by prodding him lightly, then tapping on his shoulder and then full on slapping him on the face. "Luna!"
