Chapter 715 - 715: The souls conundrum Part 3

Soulfire walked in despite Uriel's violent outburst and the buzzing sounds of the roudy canteen resumed in the background. Nika greeted Soulfire with a kiss on the cheek and the latter offered his hand to Alice with a dazzling smile.

"Pleasure to meet you, Alice. I heard from Nika you're a capable young woman."

"Huh, Huh, Huh..." Alice attempted to speak, yet only squeaks came out her mouth as she had never met a man so handsome in her life. She wasn't starstruck, but the next thing as Soulfire wasn't only the most beautiful man she had seen, he was also charming and attentive.

"Happens all the time. I'm sorry I'm a bit socially awkward." Soulfire apologized then turned to give Uriel a hug.

"You're fucking weird, that's what you are." Uriel growled as he shook off the heavenly rank nuisance.

"Come on, there's no need to be mean. We're friends after all." Soulfire grabbed a chair.

"Why? and also... how?" Uriel glared at Nika.

"The why is easy. You need someone who's an expert on souls that can be trusted and who better than Soulfire? I chose to meet in a bar because you can't run away and break curfew without making a fuss which would draw attention to you. Also, I can drink all I want here." Nika grinned at Uriel who clearly wasn't amused by her shenanigans.

"As for the how, you know this kind of place doesn't suit me well, but once Nika told me you were considering releasing my brother from your book I was all in. I'll help you to the best of my abilities and since I know you, I won't charge you a dime." Soulfire winked at Uriel with familiarity.

"Wait a second, so why did I bring this cash!?" Uriel blurted out as he showed the black suitcase which contained 100k credits.

"How else are we going to get drunk, am I right!?" Nika cheered with complete disregard for Uriel's sour expression.

Uriel felt cornered for more than one reason. He didn't want to meet Soulfire or be anywhere near him because despite the system counting him as a friend, he disliked pretty much everything about him. Especially the fact that he was handsome. He also didn't plan on releasing Soulfire's brother, Ethan, since he thought the late colonel was among those who most deserved the punishment.

Uriel was annoyed, furious even, but more than that he was actually impressed by Nika's scheme which left him with no other choice but to agree. Even Alice's presence seemed to be planned, since he couldn't refuse Soulfire's help in front of her without a good reason.

"I can't believe you pulled a fast one on me." Uriel said unsure as to why he was smiling, then turned to explain the situation to Soulfire.

"That is most unfortunate. I'm deeply sorry about your loss," Soulfire showed genuine sympathy which was greatly appreciated by Alice, though she remained incapable of speaking in front of him. "what happened to Ashanti?"

"That's a good question no one cares about." Uriel scoffed.

"She didn't want to return to help the teaching... archaeologist Sage." Alice somehow found the nerve to reply in a professional way in spites of how Soulfire made her feel.

"You graduated!? That's wonderful news!" Soulfire smiled at Uriel who placed both hands in front of him.

"If you try to give me a hug you'll lose both hands, but feel free to send me a gift. Now answer, do you know how to release a soul from the book or not?"

"To be honest, I'm not sure. I kind of assumed you could do it whenever you wanted."

"I knew this was a waste of time." Uriel snarled.

"Calm down, I didn't say I couldn't help. As you know, I've been determined to free my brother from his torture. I tried asking you many times, but after you so unkindly refused I started looking for alternatives and found something. Unfortunately, it's in Europe." Soulfire said as he gauged Uriel's reaction.

"So, it is impossible after all," Nika sighed. "at least we can hang out for a while longer... until dawn to be more precise."

Uriel didn't like to be reminded that he couldn't exit the place until dawn, but he didn't seem discouraged by Soulfire claiming it was in Europe which in itself told the latter what he wanted to hear.

"It is true! You really did do it! Lister refused to tell me anything, but I knew the zeppelin blockade was deal with. Tell me, how did you do it?"

"It was nothing much, I just had to kill the Lightbringer, that's all."

"You did what..." Soulfire's eyes became teary and he went in to hug Uriel uncaring of his grunting and wiggling around.

"Stop this madness, I'm not some kid who needs to be praised." Uriel snarled after finally getting free from the stupidly handsome man.

"I'm not praising you, I'm comforting you because you killed your best friend." Soulfire started sobbing prompting Nika to do the same.

As a veteran hunter, Nika had seen her fair share of deaths and even killed people herself. She had seen friends come and go, but her training allowed her to bottle up her feelings. She was hurting for what they did to Sam, yet that wasn't the reason why she cried.

The reason why Nika's tears broke through her cold nature and years of training was because she felt as though she needed to cry the tears Uriel couldn't.

As the night progressed and things settled down, Uriel attempted to get Soulfire to tell him why did he need to go to Europe or what did he need to look for, yet the annoyingly handsome man refused to say a word. But that didn't mean Uriel would give up and he came up with the idea to get Soulfire drunk.

Unfortunately to Uriel, that meant he also needed to drink and among those present he was the one with the least experience in that and while he didn't drink to the point of getting wasted since he had a resistance to alcohol due to being a heavenly rank hunter, the same applied for Soulfire.
