Chapter 664 - 664: A peek into the ancient Legacy Part 2

Kenny lost himself in the ancient languages diving into mysteries that remained a secret for generations. He did not feel hunger, thirst or even tiredness as he focused his entire attention into the only thing that mattered to him now, the ancient legacies of the four big families.

For some reason he didn't care to understand, he wasn't just able to read languages he didn't know but he somehow was also able to understand even the most convoluted notions presented in the legacies except for one thing.

"I don't get it, according to this, fire is the element of creation; earth is the element of substance, but both air and water are presented as elements of life." Kenny scratched his head in frustration with enough force to make his scalp bleed.

"We alchemist have always dabbled in the arts of healing, but wind users... they're usually just about moving fast. Are you sure you're reading it right?" Neve asked.

"I am." Kenny said with confidence, though he wasn't actually sure how. It was almost as though the words were being whispered into his ear, but he knew their meaning had to be true.

"Forget about that, what does it say about our god?" Mason shook Kenny like a broken vending machine.

"It says here that... Uhmm... It's difficult to read this part. I think it could help if you told me what exactly it is you want to know." Old english, french or even ancient sumerian were one thing, but the language in the text that spoke about their god was in a mysterious language he could barely understand. A single character didn't just translate into a word, but into an entire concept.

It meant that an entire story could fit into a single line of text, but that also meant it was difficult to translate it all.

"Isn't it obvious? We are trying to release him from the oppression of his bindings so he can bestow upon us his blessing. That way we won't be limited by the use of a single element and we would be able to perform true magic without the need of relying on the other families." Mason explained as though it was obvious.

"It says here that he is trapped for eternity, though he isn't mentioned as a god but as a son. Hey, are you sure releasing him is a good idea?"

"It doesn't matter, just focus find out how to release him!" Mason snarled. The prize he had worked so hard to get was finally within arms reach and all that stood between him and it was a kid that refused to do what he was told.

"Wait, let's hear what he has to say." Neve butted in. She hadn't been a member of the society for long and didn't share their ideals. Joining them was only the most rational option she had left after her city fell and she was left with authority over a few crumbled buildings and castaway hunters.

She assumed it would be an easy way to reach a high standing in the government again after her failure to defend Texas and it was only after the ancient tales about a golden city turned out to be true that she started worrying about what creature could be so dangerous to be locked in a place like this, but by then she was already too deep into the mess of her own making and couldn't backstep.

"It says here that in the ancient times he demanded blood and gold as his price to bestow upon humans the right to rule over the elements, but..."

"I knew it! Perhaps we should stop." Neve interrupted amidst stutters.

"As I was saying, it's not rare for old cultures to have similar tales of gods demanding blood and gold as tribute. It's not that what worries me, but we don't have a clue of who trapped him and why." When Kenny finished speaking a cultist started walking towards them in a ceremonious manner and no one bothered to stop him.

There was something to that man that made even the higher ups in the front rows to not dare block his path and he drew all the attention towards himself. His slow steady pace amounted to his hunched back hinted of his old age and his natural fleese cloak marked him as a wealthy person.

"It was me, I trapped him. And I did it because that thing cannot be killed." Atsa revealed his wrinkled face by taking off the hood. Needless to say, people broke into laughter at the elderly man claiming to have bested their god and trapped him in the ancient times.

"I'm sorry! He's just an old man, he's wrong in the head." The cultist woman that had a brief encounter with Atsa rushed in to save the old man, though instead of letting himself get carried away Atsa proceeded to wear off his coat revealing in front of everyone the three sacred relics of the Alamo dungeon.

"It can't be you!" Mason took a step back, cold sweat trickling down his forehead. "You're supposed to be dead!"

Atsa didn't bother to respond to Mason and instead turned to look at Kenny, directing him a look of pity and understanding. "There are things that are never meant to see the light of day, secrets that must remain as such for life to thrive. Just because you can do something, it doesn't mean it should be done. Please, stop what you are doing and let me do my job."

"Don't listen to him, keep translating!" Mason commanded, though Neve and Mark had already taken their distance from them. Atsa didn't look like much and didn't emit any flux energy signature, but Mason's reaction was more than enough to let them know he wasn't just a simple old man.

"I...," Kenny hesitated for a few seconds. He turned to look at Martha, then at the hundreds if not thousands of cultists all lined up in front of him. If he succeeded in translating the end of the ceremony to release the god, no matter what would happen he would still get to marry the woman of his dreams and command at least one fourth of those forces.

That alone would be enough to make him one of the most powerful hunters in the world. "To release him, what you need to do is..."

"I knew you wouldn't listen, Benny." A shadow seemingly came to life beneath Kenny and in a single motion his throat was slit so clean Kenny didn't feel pain. He just felt cold and weak, then fell on his back to catch a last glimpse of the ceiling and a pair of glinting eyes devoid of emotion.

It was Uriel looking at him with piercing blue eyes, not even even bothering to remember his name until he passed away taking the ancient secrets he unveiled to the grave with him.

"What are you fucking waiting for? Take him down!" Mason shouted at the same time he created a sharp stake made of stone, ready to fire it towards Uriel who seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

Mason's shout had snapped the cultists out of their reverie, but all they saw was a bunch of blue sparks left at the place where Uriel had just killed Kenny.

"Are you okay?" Uriel asked Martha as he cut off her stone constraints with the Red thread of fate. It's orichalcum edge was so sharp it cut her bindings like they were made of paper mache instead of hardened stone.

Being the closest and also the strongest earth manipulator, Mason was the first to attack Uriel and sent the sharp spear his way at a speed that made the air whistle despite the projectile's size, but Atsa blocked it with his body.

"This buckskin protects me from the elements." Atsa said, as he dusted the tribal attire like it hadn't just received an attack that could have pierced through a battleship. Then he waved his hatchet towards the nearest cultists surrounding him, taking care not to hit the lovely young woman whose kind nature and generous cleavage had gained his heart.

"And this hatchet can cut through anything." He explained after several heads fell to the ground like overripe fruit.

This gave Uriel enough time to rescue Martha who clung to him with such force her nails dug deep into Uriel's flesh, yet he didn't let out so much as a grunt as he made his way towards the exit using Dash. Thanks to his unparalleled speed, Uriel was able to move throughout the crowd with ease and made it difficult for them to target him at the same time.

The few cultists that managed to fire any projectiles missed their mark and hit other cultists instead of Uriel, causing several cries of pain to erupt and sending everyone into a panic. Before they took notice, Uriel was already by the door taking a last glimpse at the old Navajo who valiantly stayed behind to give him the chance to escape from the clutches of the society.

Everything went according to plan. They managed to stop Kenny from revealing the way to set the creature trapped inside the dungeon free, Martha was safe which gave Uriel a chance to understand what was going on and at the same time deprived the society of a strong wind element user to perform their foul ceremony.

Everything went well and yet, the moment Kenny's blood touched the ground was also the moment Uriel's and Atsa's attempt to stop the ceremony had failed.
