Dungeon Raider System -
Chapter 663 - 663: A peek into the ancient legacy Part 1
Tanya's party looted the golden city of Cibola from the minute they set foot inside, it was nothing short of a dream come true as even the cutlery and the furniture was made of gold making. A single vase was worth more than enough to break even with the expenses they took upon setting up the expedition inside the dungeon and from there on everything they picked up was income.
They started piling up everything they could find on the streets claiming ownership of a plate here, a large piece of furniture there, but it soon became evident there was more riches than they knew how to spent and the golden fever ceased.
At first Tanya was worried about Uriel running away with his friends, thinking they would take the lion's share of the treasure. She even pondered about sending some of her party members to chase after them, but now she was relieved she didn't do it as there was more than plenty of treasures to go around.
The only regretful thing about them leaving was having less hands to haul the treasures outside the dungeon.
"We can't bring back everything back with us on a single trip, perhaps we should prioritize the most expensive stuff we can carry and use that to set up an even bigger expedition party." Was what Tanya said when the realization that they couldn't handle the amount of gold they found.
Due to Kenny's studies on anthropology and his vague knowledge about ancient cities, it fell upon his shoulders to identify the best treasures, but he soon found the task to be out of his reach and decided to follow Uriel around to find out if the reason he ran away was because the actual motherload was somewhere else.
Following Uriel around he noticed how he wasn't carrying anything, which also made Tanya heave a sigh of relief, though they had no clue he was taking with him every single trite he found. Still, they followed him around until the moment the traps inside the castles were taken down by Atsa who by then was in the company of Bella.
Instead of following Uriel around, Tanya's party decided to head directly into the castle in the center of the island as they figured it had to be where the best part of the treasure had to be located.
Needless to say, they were put off by tacky purple tapestries and the lack of treasures inside, yet still ventured further inside the castle expecting to find a few artifacts, not knowing that not long after they would stumble into way more than they bargained for.
"How do I know you'll keep your word?" Kenny asked Mason, out of distrust and not bravery.
"I'm Neve, the former head of the Cryptid hunting agency in our city, and I vow for him. We literally can't care any less about the things you took or the people you brought along. We just need someone to help us translate this old things." Neve said as she pointed at the pages scattered on top of the table.
She wasn't wearing her accustomed business suit nor was she the current head of the Cryptid hunting agency, though her tone carried the same authority she used to bear and Kenny was finally composed enough to give a thought to their request.
Despite the cultist chants and their odd fashion style, they were still hunters that came from their same city and he figured he was still under the protection of the Cryptid hunting agency even after getting kicked out of college. The only thing that troubled him was Martha who was distantly related to him.
Martha was to Kenny the same thing Bella was to the former. They were blood related, but on completely different standings. He didn't just admire her, but had a not so secret crush on her from the moment he laid his eyes on her, one that she nipped in the bud when she publicly rejected him and humiliated him in front of the family.
If things had gone his way, Kenny would have been able to form part of the Eurus family and receive the wind legacy that was denied to him when Martha rejected his marriage proposal. That is why Kenny decided to abandon the society and leave the dungeon, only to join a strong party and loot whatever they found inside the dungeon.
With what little Kenny had learned about the wind legacy he was already far stronger than most hunters of his rank, which immediately caught Tanya's attention and his inside knowledge about the dungeon was just the cherry on top.
She was willing not only to give Kenny a chance as a hunter, but after his claims about the riches inside the dungeon turned out to be true she even wanted to marry him, but Kenny had different plans.
"I think I can translate some of this, but why should I? I was a member of the society too, but was fed nothing but the scraps of the knowledge that was rightfully mine. I need reassurance that I'll be let inside the Eurus family." Kenny said without taking his eyes from Martha. She looked just as beautiful as the day he first saw her, but not nearly as intimidating.
If anything, she looked scared and pitifully out of her element.
"Don't think for a second that I'll marry you." Martha scoffed. Kenny had thought she looked harmless and meek, though she proved him wrong and humiliated him once more in front of people. "There's nothing in our legacy that's rightfully yours. You're nothing but the bastard son of a bastard son someone dropped in the slums like trash."
"Consider it done" Mason snapped his fingers and four stone shackles immobilized Martha pinning her to the wall. "But if you truly can be of help, we can all forget about the Eurus family entirely. If you can help us finish this ceremony, you will become the next head of the wind family and your name will be passed on for generations onward."
Looking at the figure of Martha stuck to the wall in shackles completely defenseless made Kenny grin in satisfaction. It was everything Kenny wanted, but becoming the next head of the wind family and erasing the Eurus family from history was something even better, something he would have never even dreamed of.
Driven by greed and lust, Kenny completely forgot about Tanya and the rest of his party. He didn't care if they were safe nor did he spare a thought about them before agreeing on the spot.
"Let me see..." He muttered as he started reading the first page he found. He nodded, then grabbed another, then the next one. Contrary to his claims, he was never the top of Pangeotis' class, but he was close to the best next thing.
It wasn't rare for Uriel to share his notes with him, especially when Kenny did something for him such as sharing his tablet or letting him sit next to him. They weren't close by any means, but they were classmates and Kenny did benefit from Uriel's obsession for ancient history.
Had it not been for that, Kenny would have found himself just as helpless as Martha when reading the ancient legacy pages, but...
"I can read it." He declared and started jotting down the translation beneath the text. It was an unspeakable sin to harm such remains of cultural value, yet instead of angering the owners of such treasure of knowledge and wisdom were actually happy about it.
"This is just perfect!" Mason exclaimed after reading the first paragraph. Then he turned to Martha at the same time he tightened the stone bindings causing her to moan in pain. "You're worthless, your entire family is worthless. The only reason why I'm keeping you alive is so your new master can play with you however he likes." Mason spoke as he patted Kenny on the back like a grandson.
Stoked by Martha's pain, Kenny continued the translation at a speed he didn't think possible. It was as though everything he had done in his life had led him to that exact moment. Choosing to take Pangiotis class, copying from Uriel's exams without him noticing, borrowing his notes, getting kicked out of college and even leaving the society had been nothing but the beginning of his raise to power.
"This is marvelous!" Mason declared.
"Good job, Kenny." Mark commended Kenny for his good work and only then did Kenny notice that the most popular student on Pangiotis class was present. It sent Kenny into cloud nine and he desperately jotted down everything to the letter.
Ancient sumerian had become like his second tongue, the same with greek and old english dialects and the best part was that the minute he started on the wind legacy, it was as though power flowed directly inside of him.
The new techniques he had learned became obsolete parlor tricks. The ability to fly was nothing but the tip of the iceberg as he also learned how to eliminate air resistance completely and even to protect himself with gusts of wind. Even creating a storm inside the palm of his hand felt not just possible, but also an easy thing to do.
Kenny was finally happy.
