Chapter 1386: Chapter 1390: The Illegitimate Daughter?
The festival was utterly captivating. Although Zhu Minglang’s attention was fixed on King Jiang, he noticed that the king, aside from putting his status aside and joining the officials and citizens in revelry and dance, did nothing else—he seemed less like the ruler of Golden Crow God City and more like a folk dancer who loved all of life.
Frequently, Zhu Minglang heard strangers around him praise King Jiang. His impartiality and casual elegance had won the admiration of many.
King Jiang repeatedly offered fine wine, sharing it warmly while respecting everyone’s individual preferences. Neither Zhu Minglang nor Nan Yuso, as first-time guests, felt either neglected or overly flattered.
Everything felt relaxed and effortless. If not for the prior investigation, Zhu Minglang and Nan Yuso might have naturally blended into the intriguing customs and festivities...
"Is that King Jiang’s consort?" Zhu Minglang asked.
Amid petals fluttering in the palace courtyard, a woman stood out strikingly. Resembling the Golden Crow in the heavens, her luminous skin glowed seductively under the golden light, irresistibly drawing everyone’s gazes to her.
Zhu Minglang knew that she must be the person he was searching for.
She was Empress Luoxiang.
Both alluring and sacred, she resembled an untainted fairy and the saintess of Union Cultivators. Her age was impossible to discern—she possessed the innocence of a maiden but also the sultriness of a grown woman.
Amidst blooming flowers, she seemed like the lone unparalleled blossom...
"King Jiang vowed to never marry. We all know that. That is Princess Chang." An official explained.
"But isn’t King Jiang an only son?" Zhu Minglang asked puzzledly.
"Have you heard King Jiang’s story? His life was tumultuous—during his darkest days, he even became a craftsman building temples," the official whispered.
"I’m familiar with it. It’s quite a touching tale," Zhu Minglang replied.
"It was during that time he met Princess Chang. She gave him immense help. If not for Princess Chang, King Jiang might have already worked himself to death. King Jiang deeply cherishes everyone who has helped him. After reclaiming his throne, he named her Princess Chang and bestowed upon her the title Jiang Xuan." The official explained.
"I see. May I approach to introduce myself?" Zhu Minglang asked.
"Of course. Today, there are no distinctions of status—everyone is a friend," the official nodded.
Zhu Minglang joined the dancers in the fragrant pool. The shallow water splashes created rainbow hues under sunlight, casting mesmerizing shimmer upon the dancers.
With awkward movements, Zhu Minglang approached Jiang Xuan. His stiff dance steps indeed caught her attention.
Soon, Jiang Xuan laughed. Her smile was warm and approachable. "Is this your first time dancing?"
"Yes," Zhu Minglang nodded.
"But I admire your confidence. Despite dancing poorly, you carry yourself like a master oblivious to scrutiny." Jiang Xuan chuckled.
"If I don’t feel embarrassed, then others will," Zhu Minglang replied with this sage comment.
"Let me teach you. Give me your hand," Jiang Xuan offered, proactive and generous.
Zhu Minglang extended his hand, which she held tightly. From there, he was guided through the dance.
While following her rhythm, Zhu Minglang focused on observing her closely.
She was dazzlingly beautiful; the warmth radiating from her presence resembled sunlight spilling freely onto his skin, leaving him slightly parched. Zhu Minglang detected no trace of demonic energy in her—she was more vividly feminine than any woman he had ever encountered.
Yet, a sense of doubt nagged at Zhu Minglang’s heart.
Could she not be Empress Luoxiang?
It was clear Empress Luoxiang bore countless faces, and mere appearances couldn’t determine authenticity.
Despite the highest level of cultivation, demon cultivators inevitably harbor traces of demonic aura—making true unity with the human race impossible. How had Empress Luoxiang completely shed her demonic aura?
"Focus, or you’ll stumble," Jiang Xuan advised.
Lowering his head slightly, Zhu Minglang scrutinized Jiang Xuan’s face.
Beneath the sunlight, Jiang Xuan’s features were exceptionally radiant. Her reminder to focus felt like an instruction to look directly at her. Amid the dazzling light, parts of her appearance struck a familiar chord with Zhu Minglang...
Suddenly, Zhu Minglang’s heart skipped a beat.
That face... was undeniably his elder sister and master!
The resemblance was uncanny—except her makeup, demeanor, and expressions were utterly different from the quietly dignified Weaver Star he knew!
But through his frequent interactions with Nan Yuso and Nan Lingsha, Zhu Minglang could discern subtle differences within similar faces.
Why did Jiang Xuan look exactly like Weaver Star?
Was she the illegitimate daughter of Weaver Star in the mortal realm?
If he weren’t deeply familiar with Weaver Star, Zhu Minglang might have believed it!
"Thank you for the dance. I think I need to rest for a while," Zhu Minglang said.
"Next time, I’ll teach you again. You learn quickly," Jiang Xuan replied.
"Alright."
Returning to his seat, Zhu Minglang felt unsettled.
Initially, Zhu Minglang had entirely dismissed the tale of Weaver Star descending to the mortal world.
But after seeing Jiang Xuan, doubt began seeping in.
Could it be true?
A faith must stem from a tangible personal revelation or story—Golden Crow God City’s inhabitants unequivocally believed the story of Weaver Star’s descent. While details might have deviated from reality, the essence of it probably held truth.
"I think we need to speak with Weaver Star herself," Zhu Minglang said to Nan Yuso.
"She’s hiding something from us?" Nan Yuso asked.
"I would think so."
"I just saw Qin Wu," Nan Yuso gestured vaguely toward a veiled woman in the distance, "She danced briefly with King Jiang and exchanged whispers with him."
"Yuso, do you think Weaver Star was ever pregnant?" Zhu Minglang asked.
"Ridiculous! She’s your master—how could you even say such a thing!" Nan Yuso snapped, her eyes wide.
"Do you think Weaver Star might have dual divine souls, like your situation?" Zhu Minglang continued.
"Dual personalities are possible. Dual divine souls? Impossible," Nan Yuso replied.
"From a professional perspective, how can the two be distinguished?" Zhu Minglang asked.
Rolling her eyes, Nan Yuso countered irritably, "Do you think you now and the past Zhu Minglang are the same person? How would you even prove you haven’t been possessed? You don’t recall anything from your time in Dragon Gate—have you never wondered if you’ve been dead for ages, trapped within an endless dream?"
"I apologize. I’m sorry," Zhu Minglang said earnestly.
"Hmph." Nan Yuso begrudgingly accepted his apology but, since Zhu Minglang had raised this matter, couldn’t refrain from addressing it. "In our world, distinguishing between dual personalities and dual divine souls is fairly straightforward, at least for divine beings."
"Why?" Zhu Minglang expressed surprise.
"Think harder," Nan Yuso retorted.
"About what?"
"The events at Dragon Gate," Nan Yuso clarified.
