Chapter 48: Fusion: Tier F Demon Dragon Boss monster!

Drahon blinked.

"What’s wrong?"

Her eyes remained fixed behind him, wide, mouth slightly parted like the breath had been knocked from her lungs.

Drahon turned.

What he saw made his blood run cold, like it had been dipped into a fridge.

The dead bodies of the demon dragon monsters... were moving.

They weren’t twitching or spasming like one would have expected (at least that’s what some headless dead monsters did).

They were instead rising.

Their twisted, mangled limbs jerked unnaturally, thirty bones cracking as they pushed themselves up with broken arms and crushed ribs. Black blood leaked from their wounds and fused together, like one of those really cool scenes where cars joined together in movies.

"The fuck?" Drahon muttered.

The corpses collapsed into one another, melting like sludge, their bones sinking into flesh and twisting. Dozens of heads and wings sank into the pile as something bigger began to form. Flesh layered over flesh, wings stitched themselves together, claws reformed, and a singular massive arm burst out from the mess, slamming into the dirt with a heavy thoom.

Drahon and Ayvira moved back a bit. They had wanted to unsummon their weapons, but seeing this monstrosity, they gripped them tight instead.

A roar ripped through the air, a sound so deep and guttural it vibrated in Drahon’s bones.

Ayvira finally spoke.

"Corruption fusion... a Tier Boss."

Words flashed across Drahon’s retina:

[WARNING: Fusion Detected]

[Demon Dragon Essence Overflow Triggered]

[Boss Evolution Initiated...]

The moment he saw them, they zipped into oblivion, and now the monster fully rose — nearly fifteen feet tall, a malformed beast with six eyes glowing red and a mouth that looked like it might never close.

Multiple horns jutted from its skull, its chest plated with fused bone and scale, and its wings were ripped and torn but massive. Each claw looked like it could tear a house in two.

Words flashed across Drahon’s retina again:

[NEW THREAT DETECTED: ’Fleshwing the Corrupted’ – Tier F Demon Dragon Boss]

[Danger Level: HIGH]

[Adaptive Regeneration: ACTIVE]

[Corrupted Flame Breath: ACTIVE]

[Multi-Soul Core Detected: Weak Spot Hidden]

Drahon gritted his teeth. They might seem overpowered, but this was massive.

He remembered the fight with the Boss monster of level one, how they had struggled against it. But that made him think, he had defeated the Boss monster by shooting the glowing stuff by its chest. Perhaps it was the same for this.

[Multi-Soul Core Detected: Weak Spot Hidden]’

The system had said this.

The weak spot was hidden, but there was some multi-soul core stuff by its chest?

That made him ponder (just for a split second though).

The weak spot of this monster would certainly be a glowing core by its chest, a thing like an orb...

Ayvira already had her weapons back in hand.

"Let’s take this down."

Drahon asked,

"Any plans?"

"We fight together," she replied. "We do so ruthlessly and find its weak spot."

Drahon nodded in the affirmative.

Then she darted forward first, showing no hesitation. Drahon immediately summoned his Draconic Leap skill.

"Draconic Leap!"

[Draconic Leap – Activated!]

He soared through the air like a projectile, golden energy streaking behind him as he closed the distance. The monster noticed, rearing back, and unleashed a wave of black flame.

"Watch out!" Ayvira shouted.

But Drahon was already prepared.

"Scaled Guard!"

[Scaled Guard – Activated!]

His body shimmered as translucent golden scales formed over him, absorbing the flame like it was nothing. He hit the beast mid-torso, driving his blade deep into its flesh, but it wasn’t enough. The monster roared and backhanded him like a fly, sending him crashing into a nearby tree.

Drahon groaned, rolling to his feet just in time to see Ayvira doing her thing.

She zipped around the monster like a shadow, dodging swipes and slashes, striking with brutal precision. Her sword slashed through its wing joint while her axe went deep into its thigh.

The monster stumbled.

But then...

It regenerated instantly.

"What?" Drahon muttered.

It could regenerate!

He knew fighting a Boss monster would be tough, even though it was Tier F.

Ayvira fell back next to him, breathing hard.

"It has adaptive regeneration," she said. "We need to destroy the soul core."

He blinked, knowing he had been right with his speculation of its weakness.

"Soul core?" he asked nonetheless, sounding naive.

"Center of its chest. Look, between the plates. There’s a faint glow."

Drahon squinted. She was right (and he was right too). A dim red orb glowed there, hidden behind overlapping scale and bone.

"I knew it," he said. "That was also the weakness of the Boss monster I faced in level one. Same with you too?"

Ayvira nodded.

"Yes."

Meanwhile, as they were talking, the monster had ripped three trees from the ground, throwing them at them.

They both dived to the side as the trees came like arrows.

Drahon to the right and Ayvira to the left.

Boom!

The tree sent the one they previously stood beside backwards, uprooting it.

"Cover me," he said. "I’ll go for it."

Ayvira didn’t argue. She nodded and ran straight at the beast, dragging her axe behind her, letting it spark against the ground.

Drahon focused.

"Draconic Sense activated."

[Draconic Sense – Active]

His vision sharpened and everything slowed. He watched the monster’s movement, the way it twisted when it attacked, the brief pauses between each regeneration wave.

Time it. Leap. Strike. End it.

Simple but crazy plan, and it just might work.

Ayvira struck first, drawing its attention. The beast turned on her, roaring, swiping, stomping, and spewing corrupted flame like a maniac. She danced around it, slicing tendons, slamming her axe into joints. It gave her its full attention.

Which gave Drahon his opening.

"Draconic Leap activated!"

[Draconic Leap – Activated!]

[You readers might have noticed that anytime he says a skill, it repeats. That’s the game world’s system projecting the skill in runes through the air.]

He launched.

The wind howled in his ears as he flew, his sword raised. The monster turned, its eyes widening, but was it too late?

Drahon plunged the blade straight into the glowing stuff by its chest.

For the Boss monster at level one, its soul core was covered and protected by ribs, so a sword wouldn’t have hit it. That was why an arrow was required.

But for this, it was pretty much exposed, as it was flesh, and the soul core orb stuff was glowing bright, easy to notice.

Crack!

A radiation of energy exploded from the impact point. The beast shrieked, every part of its body writhing. Drahon held tight to the sword as the red core began to crack. Ayvira jumped in with a shout, her axe raised, and slammed it down on the blade, driving it deeper (like a nail against a hammer).

The core shattered.

A shockwave blew outward, sending both of them flying. The beast let out a deafening roar, not of rage, but of pure pain, before its body exploded into a storm of black ash.

Everything went still.

No movement.

No noise either.

Just...

...silence.

Then they saw the words:

[CONGRATULATIONS, PLAYERS: You have just defeated a Tier F Demon Dragon Boss Monster.]
