Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Cease Fire and Silence the Drums?

Wufu’s family was moving away, and the commotion was so grand that everyone in the village knew about it. Even Madam Lu, upon hearing the news, stealthily hid among the crowd and watched as trunks and chests were loaded onto the carriage, her eyes gleaming with interest.

With help, all the valuable items inside the house had been moved out. The worthless things, Wufu had not taken a single piece.

"Miss, everything is moved out." Liu Jin said respectfully.

Wufu glanced at the house one last time, a trace of coldness flickering in her eyes, hand on her back, she said, "Let’s go!"

Stepping out the front door, just before boarding the carriage, Wufu quickly turned her gaze towards the crowd, catching sight of Madam Lu, her lips instinctively moving slightly.

"Wait for it," Madam Lu somehow deciphered her silent words, stumbling back in shock.

Fortunately, the carriages simply rolled away. As for the house, they didn’t even lock the door.

Some villagers rushed in and soon came out carrying some worthless items.

Madam Lu, in a panic, shouted, "What are you doing? Put that back, it belongs to our Zhou family!"

"Bah! ’Your Zhou family?" Everyone knows Wufu doesn’t bear the Zhou surname, and besides, they’ve moved away. All this stuff has no owner now," a woman retorted, giving her a shove.

"That’s right, that’s right."

Someone walked away with two small stools, and Madam Lu, fuming with anger, yelled, "Those belong to the Zhou family too, put them down! Otherwise, I’ll have our Scholar Master file a complaint with the authorities!"

Upon hearing this, some people remembered that Zhou Xuennian was indeed a scholar, so they obediently put the items down. However, others were undeterred and ran off with their loot.

Madam Lu didn’t pursue them; instead, she bolted the courtyard gate, a smug grin spreading from cheek to cheek.

Now, finally, the plague was gone—all gone.

She hurried back home to share the news with her mother-in-law.

Old Lady Zhou was still lying in bed, furious with her youngest son. She wasn’t even dead yet, and he was already talking about dividing the family, which had made her ill.

"Really gone?" Old Lady Zhou sat up and asked Madam Lu.

"As true as it gets, I saw it with my own eyes. How could it be fake?" Madam Lu boasted, "Mother, I told you, reputation matters more for women. They wouldn’t dare cause a scene."

Just like that, the matter was settled.

Madam Lu puffed out her chest, her face full of pride. With the crisis averted, of course she was happy.

Lady Liang walked in with a bowl of medicine and couldn’t help but show a look of contempt upon hearing the conversation.

"Mother, it’s time for your medicine." Old Lady Zhou came back to her senses and frowned at the sight of her younger daughter-in-law.

If not for her instigation, would her youngest son ever have thought about splitting the family?

"Put it down. Get out, don’t bring your sick airs to my grandson," Old Lady Zhou said with some irritation.

"Yes."

Lady Liang had no desire to stay, especially with Madam Lu still there. She found it revolting.

But had she just heard her sister-in-law correctly? Wufu’s family really moved away?

Lady Liang sighed deeply. Such upstanding people, yet her in-laws insisted on treating them like enemies—especially Wufu, who was surely a promising individual. If she achieved success in the future, being related to her could lend a helping hand in times of need. But they had completely alienated her, a move both ignorant and foolish.

Inside the house, Old Lady Zhou asked Madam Lu where they had moved to.

Naturally, Madam Lu didn’t know, leaving Old Lady Zhou brimming with irritation as she sent her daughter-in-law away.

Lady Liang watched her co-sister-in-law’s smugness and couldn’t help saying, "Eldest sister-in-law, don’t be too pleased with yourself."

"What do you mean by that?" Madam Lu huffed, "It seems like you can’t stand to see the Zhou family do well."

Lady Liang replied indifferently, "Heaven is watching what people do. Actions taken can’t simply be wiped away as if they never happened. Wufu is not the kind to let things slide so easily."

"You..." Madam Lu’s face showed a slight change of expression.

Lady Liang curtseyed and gracefully returned to her own room.
