Chapter 318: Chapter 318 Wufu is Coming to Kill
Old Lady Zhou and her youngest daughter-in-law had gone out to visit an elder sister and had just returned, only to walk into wailing as soon as they entered the home. Seeing that it was her eldest daughter-in-law causing the commotion, she immediately felt displeased.
This eldest daughter-in-law was becoming less and less useful. Her eldest son had with difficulty achieved the rank of scholar, and she did not expect much else from her, as long as she could manage family affairs well, teach their children, and maintain peace in the inner quarters. But instead, she kept stirring up headaches every two or three days.
Upon seeing her mother-in-law, Madam Lu felt a lump form in her throat, her mind racing to her son’s vile conduct, and she shivered internally.
If she found out, what then? Although the mother-in-law loathed the younger sister-in-law, she was, after all, a member of the Zhou family. With her son acting in such a way, it was the reputation of the Old Zhou family at stake. Should word get out, the entire family would be disgraced.
Therefore, if the mother-in-law found out, she was likely to go mad.
Madam Lu swallowed hard and said, "Mother, you’re back."
There was a hint of concealment in her manner, which Lady Liang noticed, frowning slightly. What had happened?
Old Lady Zhou had no desire to converse further with her eldest daughter-in-law, as she was already tired from the walk back. She instructed her youngest daughter-in-law, "You’re carrying the child, go inside and rest a bit. Let the eldest hurry up and prepare the meal."
"Yes, Mother," responded Lady Liang, obediently complying.
Madam Lu was seething with resentment. This was far too biased. Normally, she would retort with a few words, but today, with the matter of Zhou Dajun weighing on her heart, what could she say?
Lady Liang, witnessing the sisters-in-law not uttering a single harsh word, grew even more puzzled—surely the sun hadn’t set in the west today?
She glanced at Madam Lu and then withdrew to her own room, full of doubts.
As soon as Madam Lu saw the two retreat to their rooms, she immediately nudged Zhou Xiuer, "Quick, go bring back your little brother and close the door."
She feared Wufu might come over; they had to lock the doors.
Zhou Xiuer was also anxious and hurried out.
Madam Lu then shut the door and, with a lost look, entered the kitchen, where soon after, the sound of porcelain shattering was heard.
Old Lady Zhou heard it clearly, approached the door intending to scold her, but then thought better of arguing with this shameless woman, wasting her breath, so she ceased to intervene.
Madam Lu, worried that Wufu might come to stir up trouble, still harbored a sliver of hope that Wufu remained unaware of the affair.
But as the saying goes, what you fear most often comes to pass; before she could even finish cooking, Wufu had stormed over.
This time, Wufu did not kick in the door as before but instead clambered over the wall.
It wasn’t out of respect for the Old Zhou family, but rather she was being cautious, concerned about Madam Zhou’s reputation.
If she made a big fuss over the matter, not only would Zhou Dajun and the Old Zhou family lose face, but Madam Zhou, as the matriarch, would be equally shamed.
So, to raise a great uproar, making the affair known to everyone, would be a foolish tactic that harms the other party a thousand but self-inflicts eight hundred.
Madam Lu, clutching a basin, stood at the entrance of the kitchen when, quite unexpectedly, she saw someone climb over the wall. She was stunned at first but then her heart gave a violent leap when the person looked up and she met those eyes.
Clang.
The aluminum basin fell to the ground, emitting a piercing noise.
It had come to pass; the grim reaper-looking Wufu had arrived!
The noise drew out Old Lady Zhou and Lady Liang from the main house.
"What’s the matter with you today, so flustered and hysterical, either breaking bowls or dropping basins? I’m not dead yet, you..." Old Lady Zhou’s voice carried from inside to outside but paused abruptly upon seeing Wufu, "You, what are you here for?"
Watching Wufu slowly stand up, with a dark and stern expression on her face, Old Lady Zhou’s heart began to pound, a bad premonition brewing inside her.
Meanwhile, Lady Liang glanced at the courtyard gate, which was barred from the inside. Had she come in not through the main gate but over the wall instead?
