The Venerable Lord of the Dragon clan had also arrived, and Zuo Jiao’s swordlike eyebrows carried a rare hint of a smile.
But amidst the coiling of the Azure Dragon, iron chains spanned across the sky, and even more people from the Sealed Emperor Great World were present.
Those damned bandits!
It was a pity that the Tao Cultivation of the Sword City Mountain was too weak to slay them!
In the wind, a space-time portal on the earth’s surface flashed with light, and someone charged directly into Phoenix Tomb.
“Ascend Sword!” Zuo Jiao barked coldly, sword light bursting from his eyes.
If they could not kill such beings, could they not slay those at the Stepping Sky Three-fold with the Sword Array they had laid out?
To the east, a streak of white broke the dawn, and in an instant the sky brightened greatly.
Su He spread his wings and floated in the air, looking eastward.
The sky outside was already bright, but the Canyon restricted area remained in darkness, similar to the Underground Phoenix Tomb.
Shrieks of Yin Ghosts echoed from all directions.
Through the formation at the valley’s mouth, one could see the great tomb where the light piercing through the earth’s surface grew increasingly intense.
Even the sun overhead could not overshadow the brilliance of the golden light, from which the chant of Buddha emerged.
“Has the Buddha Mother not yet returned to her place?”
Su He flapped his wings and landed on the Flying Paulownia Tree of Phoenix Chao Fei, searching through the leaves for the formation that encased the valley’s mouth.
The Paulownia Tree of the Phoenix was akin to an accompanying Magical Treasure, each leaf being a Formation.
Finding that leaf would allow him to think of a way to take the formation at the valley’s mouth, and then he could rush out of the canyon.
Even the Disciples of Sword City Mountain had arrived; how could he cower here?
He couldn’t join the battle below, but patrolling the space rifts above should be no problem.
A roar from the Dragon Turtle suddenly echoed, Uncle Luo’s voice; was Uncle Luo injured?
Su He’s breath caught.
If even Uncle Luo could get hurt, how had the great battle below not shattered the Phoenix Tomb?
The Phoenix Tomb riddled with space-time rifts was so stable?
Su He’s breathing quickened, when suddenly a chant of “Amitabha Buddha,” a curse of “you f*cking,” and another shrill Phoenix wail were heard.
Soon after, Phoenix Chao Fei’s voice came: “Come!”
Su He felt the Wutong Tree beneath him suddenly contract downwards, as if breaking through the earth.
The scenery flashed before his eyes, and when he opened them again, he was already in the Underground Phoenix Tomb.
In midair, both Phoenix and Dragon Turtle stretched across, opposite a Little Novice Monk around eight or nine years old, floating midair in spotless monk’s robes.
Behind him, nine monks dressed in golden robes sat cross-legged, arranging themselves in a stacked Arhat formation.
Around them, a Phantom of Buddha sat in a lotus position, one hand holding a flower, the other supporting the sky.
On the Buddha hand that supported the sky, there was a Peacock Statue posed as if spreading its wings to fly.
The gem-encrusted Peacock Statue, inlaid with Jade and Gemstones, shone with a brilliant treasure light.
Around were Houdou, Cultivators…
As the Wutong Tree descended, Phoenix Chao Fei let out a Phoenix cry and landed on the tree.
Just as he was about to operate the tree, he saw Su He on the tree, his eyes filled with surprise: “What are you doing here?”
This idiot!
Why hadn’t he left yet?
How dare he show himself in this place?
The bare minimum requirement here was the Heaven Seven-fold, and a single repercussion from the battle could cost him his life!
Su He opened his mouth but couldn’t speak.
Had the situation on the battlefield already become this tense?
He had been on Phoenix Chao Fei’s Wutong Tree for so long, and Phoenix Chao Fei hadn’t noticed him?
No wonder he summoned the Wutong Tree and ended up bringing him along.
“I killed a Yuan Sovereign Clan person,” Su He found himself saying out of nowhere.
A flash of astonishment crossed Phoenix Chao Fei’s eyes, followed by a snort: “What?
You want me to give you a reward?”
No need for that!
She paused for a moment because of Su He, but the monk on the other side did not stop at all.
The little novice monk brought his hands together and said with the voice of an old monk, “The old monk begs thrice for the Buddha Mother Daming King Bodhisattva to return to her place!”
Crack!
In the Phoenix Tomb, there was a sound of something shattering, and the body of a peacock with spread wings floated up.
Su He’s heart clenched violently, and looking at that incredibly beautiful peacock, for some reason, she felt as though her heart was being torn apart.
The connection with that peacock was no longer just a bloodline bond, but now it felt like a direct connection between the ten fingers and the heart!
So this was how Divine God Beasts felt when they saw their mother?
So Ya Ya looked at him this way too?
That’s why Ya Ya didn’t hesitate to ask him for the hammer and the fishing rod.
It was only natural!
There was no need for a lifelong maternal bond; it was likely a side effect of evolution.
Once connected by blood, a feeling of kinship naturally arose.
But at the moment when her eyes met the corpse, that intimacy turned into heart-wrenching agony.
Unable to control herself, Su He let out a piercing scream, almost at the same time, Feng Si also let out a screech, looking at the floating peacock corpse, for a moment they seemed unsure of what to do!
At her side, Phoenix Chao Fei cried out, her husky voice cursing loudly, “Go back to your mother!
Get out of the way, kid, don’t get in the old lady’s way during a fight!”
With a flap of her wing, she sent Su He flying towards Gu Luo in the air.
Immediately, the monks looked towards Su He, but they saw a phoenix phantom form outside Su He’s body with Phoenix Chao Fei’s wing, giving them no chance to approach.
Su He landed on Gu Luo’s back, only to see Gu Luo’s Spirit Snake looking half-dead, apparently having suffered severe injuries.
Gu Luo managed a wry smile, “This Spirit Snake of mine was premature and is a bit weak.”
From a distance, Master Ci Fang laughed heartily, “Old Turtle, have some shame.
Your Spirit Snake’s sneak attack caused the Buddhist Eighteen Arhats to lose half their number in an instant.
The Spirit Snake is only badly wounded, you’re just showing off to Young Friend Su He, aren’t you?”
Gu Luo laughed as well.
A voice from the side said, “I wonder if after this battle, after killing this little turtle, Gu Luo Friend can still smile?”
Su He looked over, and the speaker was the person from the Sealed Emperor’s Palace who had led the initial sneak attack on him.
However, the red cloth that had covered his eyes had been removed, revealing a pair of phoenix eyes burning with Phoenix True Fire, and a phoenix phantom was also condensing behind him.
By his side there were two other people from the Sealed Emperor’s Palace dressed in Python Robes.
Su He recognized one as the kind old Bodhisattva who had given him the Kan Trigram, Zhen Nan Wang.
The other he did not recognize.
“Uncle Luo, what’s happening?” Su He asked quietly.
Gu Luo chuckled, “What else could it be?
The bald donkeys from the Buddha World probably obtained something great in the Star Sea, securing the ‘Canon’ of a certain Bodhisattva.
They are now leveraging the Buddha Pond to channel the Buddha Force, accumulated over ten million years, into Sister Yun’s dead body, attempting to seize her body and the resurrection vessel to create a Bodhisattva.”
“Canon?”
Su He asked, puzzled.
“Anecdotes?
Scripture?
Actions?
Probably something like that.
The traitors in the Buddha World have taken a sinister path.
With the ‘Canon’ once gathered by a Bodhisattva Arhat, they can use the Canon as a guide, forcibly injecting and transforming Sister Yun’s dead body, making her into the Buddha Mother Daming King Bodhisattva they speak of.”
“A Bodhisattva, that’s a grand ambition!” Gu Luo snorted.
That being was on the same level as Thai Zu, and even the weakest formation solidified through external forces would not allow their cultivation to succeed!
Su He was stunned for a moment, “Possession?”
Gu Luo shook his head, “For a living person, it wouldn’t be considered possession; it’s just a forced elevation of status.
But since Sister Yun is dead, it amounts to possession, a ‘Borrowing the Dead and Returning the Soul’ situation!
The resurrected Sister Yun will have no memory of her own, only the anecdotes of that Bodhisattva.
If it isn’t possession, what is?”
Su He fell silent again, doubt creeping in, “Is it possible to resurrect someone just by knowing about a Bodhisattva’s anecdotes?”
Gu Luo shook his head and then nodded, “Pretty much, or else how do you think the Buddha World came up with five hundred Arhats?
However, for a living person to receive Buddha’s Force is one thing, who dominates will need to be contested.
It’s also possible they may absorb the Ancient Arhat Bodhisattva and achieve their own Buddhahood.
And to recreate a Bodhisattva, the billions of years of accumulation by the Buddhist community is just barely enough!”
Su He looked at his mother’s corpse which had been summoned by the Buddha World, and seeing the surging Buddha’s Force around Buddha’s clothes that had taken substantial form.
