"I went there, but Grandpa wasn’t there. However, I did encounter something interesting."
Sylvia conveyed to Larry the words she’d tested Nolan with and what she’d heard from him.
Larry shook his head in disapproval, "Nolan is cunning and petty. His words are intended to smear Aidan Lucas; you shouldn’t listen to him."
"I know, that guy looked so dumb, always pausing when I asked him questions, didn’t seem smart at all."
Sylvia mentioned her opinion about Nolan nonchalantly.
If the self-important Nolan knew that the Goddess he was impressed by thought of him this way, who knows what he would think.
"Why did you ask then?" Larry helplessly looked at his sister, "You’ve been mischievous since we were kids. If you want to know what kind of person Aidan Lucas is, you could ask Lily and David Redington, even me. If you wanted to meet him, you could have simply told Lily, there was no need to ask others."
"It’s not the same," Sylvia emphasized seriously, "You all must have been swayed by him, otherwise why would you help him and keep things from me and Ken?"
"As for our baby, it’s even more needless to say. Her heart must have already been lost to that man, otherwise, she wouldn’t have started rekindling old flames as soon as she returned to the country. Alas, I had cautioned her thousands of times not to harbor feelings for that man again, ah... my poor baby..."
"Cough... Actually, Aidan Lucas is quite a decent young man," Larry, unable to bear it any longer, felt Sylvia was making a mountain out of a molehill.
But in his eyes, his sister was always right, so he could only offer gentle advice.
"So what if he’s decent, you saw that prenuptial agreement, it’s full of nonsense. And to think he signed such an agreement with our darling when she was all alone and unsupported."
A mother-in-law is always full of critiques for her son-in-law, especially before they’ve met.
Sylvia listed all the things she disliked about Aidan Lucas, from the prenuptial agreement to his neglect of Lily over the four years.
Eventually, even Hannah Ford was dragged into the conversation.
Unable to bear it any longer and thinking of the old saying ’the more a mother-in-law sees her son-in-law, the more she likes him,’ Larry suggested,
"Hearing is false, seeing is believing. How about I arrange for you to meet Aidan Lucas in person? And by the way, you haven’t seen Lily for a long time; you could meet up together."
"No, no need," Sylvia refused proudly with her chin up.
"You don’t want to meet Aidan Lucas?" Larry didn’t believe her.
"Meet, of course, I want to meet, but your arrangement is unnecessary," Sylvia smiled coquettishly, "The meetings you arrange show only what he’s prepared for, a meticulously crafted facade. I need to investigate him myself to know what kind of person he really is."
"Sylvia, you still need to... investigate him?" Larry suddenly felt a rush of concern for Aidan.
His sister had loved causing trouble since her teenage years, and now, her skills in troubling others had probably become even more formidable.
He hoped Sylvia wouldn’t push Aidan too far.
"Uh-huh, of course."
With a slight raise of her charming peach-blossom eyes, Sylvia leaned close to Larry and whispered, "I’m planning to check out the charity auction this weekend. Brother, I’m telling you now, you can’t let high secrecy slip in advance, and you can’t tell our darling or Aaron that I’m back."
Left with no choice, Larry could only agree to Sylvia’s terms.
What he didn’t know was that Sylvia was planning more than just meeting Aidan Lucas; she had also prepared a special ’Afterglow program’ for her future son-in-law.
