Chapter 651: Chapter 613: It Turns Out That Year_2
There were many tourists on the weekend, devoutly worshipping Buddha.
As they approached the giant Buddha, Cherish Turner suddenly thought of something and dragged William Griffith towards a certain place.
In the temple’s incense burner, countless candles were lit, representing the beautiful wishes of the tourists.
William was pulled by her to the back hill, where the giant trees and budding greenery cast sunlight through the branches, imbuing their hair with a golden glow. Cherish released his hand and walked towards one of the trees, feeling a warmth in her chest. William followed her, and heard her say, "This tree was planted by my mom, dad, and me when I was little. It was so small then, but now it has grown so tall. Look, this is our family’s tree tag."
William looked in the direction she was pointing and saw the transparent plastic tag.
The crooked handwriting on the tag read - Cherish’s Family Tree.
"Such ugly handwriting." He bluntly criticized.
Cherish didn’t mind and said softly, "I wrote it when I was little, and it was cold, so I couldn’t hold the pen well."
Glancing at her nostalgic expression, William spoke unhurriedly, "Let’s plant another one."
Oh? Cherish looked surprised and delighted.
They bought a sapling from the administrator and paid the procedure fee. Cherish held the sapling in her arms while William carried the planting tools. Under the administrator’s guidance, they arrived at an empty space on the back hill. A small sapling, with slightly damp soil, had been planted some distance away- apparently by tourists as well.
William loosened the soil with a shovel, dug a deep hole, and Cherish carefully placed the sapling inside. He filled in the soil, and she took the water bottle and watered the plant without a word.
"Sir, miss, please sign." The administrator handed them a tree tag. Cherish took it with both hands and pondered before writing a few words on it. After she finished writing, she handed it directly back to the administrator. He sealed it and inserted the tag into the soil next to the sapling, saying solemnly, "When the tree grows bigger, we can hang the tag on it."
This time, the neat and elegant handwriting on the tag read - Cherish and William’s Tree.
Thus, a little tree took root and perhaps found a place in someone’s heart.
After worshipping the giant Buddha, they took the cable car down the mountain.
As they strolled along the forest path, William casually said, "You grew up here; take me to see your school."
"My school? I haven’t been there for ages! I wonder if our teacher is still there!" Cherish became excited and pulled him towards the school.
"I wonder if you were this clumsy as a child," William teased. Suddenly, she stopped walking, her brows furrowed, and she bent down to rub her leg, as if trying to endure pain. "What’s wrong?"
"My leg cramped," Cherish gritted her teeth, probably due to climbing too many steps earlier.
"Why didn’t you say something if you couldn’t go on? Why do girls have to be so strong-willed?" William thought and immediately guessed what was going on. He was angry with her stubbornness and even angrier at himself for not being more considerate. With an annoyed tone, he took a large step forward and squatted down in front of her without any hesitation.
"What are you doing?" Cherish asked curiously.
He waved his hand at her, "Get on!"
"Huh?"
"I’m giving you a piggyback ride!"
"No need, I’ll be fine after resting for a bit."
"I’ll count to three; if you don’t get on, I’ll carry you! One, two..." William threatened, and Cherish gritted her teeth. In the last second, she leaned towards him. He effortlessly hoisted her onto his back, and she rested her head on his shoulder, hooked her arms around his neck, and asked softly, "Am I heavy?"
"Yes," he replied coldly, and she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. "Then let me down."
"No way," he finally finished his thought, and she paused. "You’re playing tricks!"
William unintentionally curled his lips and immediately changed the subject. "Cherish, which way to your school?"
"This way!"
"This way?" He deliberately went in another direction.
"No, not that way, the other way!"
"The other way?"
"Not that way, the other way!"
"Which way is the other way?"
Amid their noisy bickering, William carried Cherish all the way to her school.
The middle and high schools on Lantau Island were in the same campus. It was January, and the school was not on winter break, so the air was filled with the sound of reading. Upon filling out visitor information with the gate guard, they entered the campus and found their old teacher, Teacher Jervis, after asking around.
