Chapter 650: Chapter 613: Turns Out Back Then
Cherish Turner held the green plum jar and pursed her lips without speaking.
Suddenly, someone opened the door with a key.
Elijah Butler walked in, carrying a travel bag in one hand and pulling out the key with the other. Looking up, he saw William Griffith holding Cherish Turner in his arms as they sat on the living room sofa, seemingly being intimate. She hesitated for a moment, realizing that it was not a good time to return. Cherish quickly patted the two iron arms around her, and when he let go, she flew out like a little bird, "Elijah, you’re back."
"Did I interrupt something?" Elijah Butler teased with a smile, obviously knowing what was going on.
William Griffith calmed down and stood up gracefully. The tender and affectionate man just now quickly returned to his usual indifference, changing his face quickly, "I’ll leave first."
"Be careful on your way." Cherish Turner didn’t hold him back, but just reminded him. She took the travel bag from Elijah Butler’s hand and asked, "Did you see your friend so soon?"
Cherish Turner originally thought she would play for a few more days, but she didn’t expect her to come back after only one day.
"I didn’t see my friend; unfortunately, she left a few days ago." Elijah Butler went into the bathroom, washed his face, changed into pajamas, and lazily laid on the sofa.
"Elijah, we’re going hiking this weekend; do you want to come with us?" Cherish Turner counted the days, and it was not long.
Elijah Butler tuned the television program, feeling listless, "Forget it, I’m not going to be a light bulb. Besides, I’ve been out for so many days; I need to check on the bar, business is the best on weekends. You go ahead and visit your hometown." Elijah Butler didn’t forget about Cherish Turner’s previous unpleasant encounter with William Griffith, and she whispered again, "Cherish, just remember, don’t let him touch you easily again until he is completely sure. Don’t let yourself suffer anymore. Dating is fine; if he truly cares for you, he can endure until the day you get married. It’s a test for him."
Elijah Butler’s words made sense, and Cherish Turner knew that. However, she had already been married and divorced; could he really accept her? And even if he did, what about his family? Could they accept her too? Cherish Turner’s lack of confidence was probably not just for him, but for herself as well.
In the blink of an eye, it was the weekend, and William Griffith arrived early in the morning.
Cherish Turner only packed a few personal belongings, put them in her backpack, and was ready to go.
When they left, Elijah Butler was still asleep, enjoying sweet dreams.
It took a few hours to drive from the city to the countryside.
As the car crossed the bridge, Cherish Turner couldn’t help but be excited. She looked at the scenery outside the window, talking incessantly, "When my mom and I left here, this bridge didn’t exist yet; the transportation was so inconvenient back then. I don’t know if the old house is still there. There used to be a large paddy field in front of my house; now that it’s winter, the field should be planted with rapeseed. William, you must have never seen a paddy field or rapeseed in the field, right?"
William Griffith frowned and said stubbornly, "How could I have not seen it."
"You’ve seen it before? Do you know about rapeseed?" Cherish Turner turned her head and asked him excitedly.
William Griffith’s handsome face slightly darkened, he muttered, "Who doesn’t know? Rapeseed is a very oily vegetable."
Cherish Turner paused for a moment, then burst into laughter.
The mountains were covered with grasslands and shrubs, and some small plots of land along the coast were suitable for farming. In Cherish Turner’s vague memory, due to the inconvenient transportation and distance from the city, many pieces of land here remained undeveloped. Back then, the quiet and simple rural life seemed peaceful and happy. Now, because of its natural beauty, it has become a popular holiday spot for people in the city.
The car stopped at a crowded area where there were too many tourists to continue driving.
Both of them got out of the car, and William Griffith took her backpack and slung it over his shoulder. Thinking about the need to climb the mountain, he changed from his usual suit and shirt to casual clothes, a black round-neck sweatshirt, and a thin vest to keep warm. Cherish Turner wore a thick hooded sweatshirt and blue sneakers, looking like a college student full of youthful energy.
Under the blue sky and white clouds, the majestic and magnificent Buddha statue stood at the top of the mountain, sacred and peaceful.
"William, do you want to take the cable car up, or climb up?" Cherish Turner gazed at the big Buddha and asked softly.
William Griffith held her hand and walked towards the steps without saying a word.
The long steps seemed endless, but the journey was peaceful. After a while, Cherish Turner was running out of breath, and her pace slowed down. She didn’t make a sound and continued to follow him up the mountain. Biting her lip, she climbed to the top of the mountain in one breath, full of a sense of accomplishment.
