Chapter 631: Chapter 602: He Bore it All for Her_3
Cherish Turner could only feel a lump in her throat, as if overwhelmed with sadness, while he coldly withdrew his gaze and got into the police car with Aaron Green.
The car’s engine started, Daniel Peacock didn’t even bother to glance sidelong, perhaps feeling no regrets, or perhaps extreme hatred, until the end, unwilling to admit defeat. The police car carried him away, disappearing in the blink of an eye, as they stood in the distance, increasingly distant.
As they drove around the corner, Aaron Green spoke up, "Mr. Peacock."
Daniel Peacock cooperatively stretched out his hands. The cold handcuffs snapped onto his wrists, weighing heavily on him. It was like a shackle, a lock that bound him for life, making it impossible to ever turn back. He closed his eyes, feeling only relief. He did not know if it was because he had been freed from his own entanglements or because he had been freed from the impossible relationship.
Inside the police station’s interrogation room, Aaron Green and another officer carried out the interrogation.
"Mr. Peacock, last night a large sum of money suddenly appeared in your personal account at Citibank in the United States. We would like to ask you to explain this."
Daniel Peacock remained silent, refusing to answer.
"Mr. Peacock, we found that the origin of the money is unclear. Why did this money end up in your account?" Aaron Green questioned, his sharp eyebrows expressing determination, and his eyes full of resolve.
At three o’clock yesterday afternoon, they received an anonymous call claiming that a large sum of illicit money had been deposited in Citibank - evidence of William Griffith’s criminal activities. After hanging up the phone, Aaron Green immediately contacted the US police. Following overnight investigations, it became clear through internal Citibank documents that the money had indeed been deposited, but not into the account of William Griffith; instead, it was in the name of another individual.
That person was Daniel Peacock.
Another officer entered the room at the right time and handed a report to Aaron Green. He took a look at it and placed it in front of Daniel Peacock, "Mr. Peacock, please explain why your real estate holdings suddenly increased significantly, including a series of capital investments."
From beginning to end, Daniel Peacock maintained his silence, not answering a word.
The news of Daniel Peacock being taken away for interrogation by the police spread like wildfire. In the conference hall, the shareholders did not immediately leave. Yannis Griffith stared at the documents, not uttering a word, while Cherish Turner immediately notified William Griffith. When William Griffith arrived, the atmosphere in the conference hall was tense and oppressive.
"President Griffith, you’re just in time! We knew you were being framed! The real culprit has already admitted to it! We must not let him go!" Several directors had already switched sides, all of them fair-weather friends.
William Griffith looked at the people present, his handsome and pale face still full of imposing presence, "I believe you have all seen that the temporary use of that fund has generated a considerable profit. Griffith Corporation needs to operate for two years to earn that much money. President Peacock is also one of Griffith’s shareholders. I don’t think the three of you want any negative news about Griffith because of this. The lost funds will be recovered, but if this profit is handled through normal procedures, it will be treated as public welfare funds for charity."
"So, what do you think is the best way to handle it?" The three elders were businessmen and naturally would not let go of their benefits.
Cherish Turner walked in with a document and placed it in front of the three elders.
"Uncle Lee, Uncle Clarke, Uncle Quid. Sign this, and there will be no problem," said William Griffith, who calmly sat down on the large chair.
The elders took a look, and the document’s content was indeed a letter authorizing Daniel Peacock to use Griffith’s funds for all manner of investments.
However, the date on the document was marked more than two years earlier.
"I think we have reached a consensus on this matter. If the police question you, you should know what to do," William Griffith said sternly, "Uncles, always remember that your stories must be consistent. That way, we can secure the money. I believe we all want a brighter future for Griffith."
Having fought their way through the business world, the three elders were no fools.
After weighing the pros and cons, Old Lee asked, "President Griffith, are you sure there will be no problems with this?"
"Uncle Lee, when have I, William Griffith, ever done anything I wasn’t sure about?" He said lightly, pushing the question back to the other party.
Old Third Lee and the other two exchanged glances and whispered among themselves for a while. They did not want to miss out on the huge profit, and they knew how significant this authorization letter would be.
"Alright, we’ll give it a try," Old Lee agreed, intent on playing the good guy. The three of them signed their names one after another.
