Chapter 606: Chapter 593: Serving Jail Time as a Substitute_2
Wilson said, "Miss Turner, President Griffith is fine."
"You should go back and rest; you must be tired too!" Oscar looked at Cherish and reminded her before leaving with Wilson.
Cherish watched their figures disappear into the airport, absent-mindedly walking forward. As she reached the exit, she saw a van drive by and quickly drive away. She realized then that the weather in Ocean City was overcast, with dark clouds filling the sky as if it would rain soon. However, the rain seemed to have been brewing for a long time, but she didn’t know when it would fall.
At the police station, Wilson requested a visit.
Oscar followed the police officer to the visitation room and saw William sitting inside as soon as the door opened. As he entered, William looked up indifferently, his handsome face clearly displeased but helpless. Oscar sat down across from him and teased, "Wow, she’s pretty brave to come to New York all by herself to find me. She’s not afraid of getting sold or cheated!"
"Didn’t I tell you not to come?" William frowned in response.
Oscar raised his eyebrow and said seriously, "You’re going to jail. How can I not come?"
"Don’t come over here! I’ll solve my own problems; you go back to New York!" William rejected firmly, without leaving any room for negotiation.
Oscar seemed to have expected him to say this. He stared at him and provocatively said, "If you don’t let me stay, I’ll tell her all the humiliating things you’ve done. If Miss Turner knows that you’re willing to go to jail for her, will she let you? Besides, it seems she still doesn’t know?"
On the flight from New York to Ocean City, Cherish had been sleeping due to exhaustion. Oscar glanced over and saw the earring she wore on her right ear, understanding its meaning. But when she described their relationship as "friends," it was too interesting.
William remained silent for a long time before asking, "Do you have a cigarette?"
Oscar handed him one, and William smoked it. As the smoke gradually dispersed, he squinted his eyes and said softly, "She got married."
Oscar was surprised, only assuming she had married William, and asked incredulously, "When did you get married?"
"She didn’t marry me." William said lowly, shocking Oscar once again.
Oscar suddenly understood and didn’t say anything more.
"Things have come to this point, someone has to go to jail. Even if the civil lawsuit is withdrawn, the criminal one can’t be! Have you negotiated with the higher-ups? No bail allowed? Such a ridiculous thing?"
"If you fight the lawsuit for me," William looked down and said, "How many years will the judge sentence?"
"William, you’re not trying to take the fall for this, are you? Cherish should know everything."
William didn’t respond to his question, only saying, "There’s always a way to solve things."
After meeting with William, Oscar returned to the lobby and saw Cherish standing quietly to one side. She hadn’t gone back to rest but had come here herself. Cherish saw him too but didn’t approach immediately. When he walked up to her, she finally asked, "Lawyer Winston, can I visit him?"
Oscar smiled slightly and leisurely said, "Miss Turner, you went to New York alone to find me; doesn’t your husband have any objections? It’s not your business; it’s better not to get involved again."
Cherish bit her lip and said, "It’s fine."
He suddenly sharpened his gaze, "Are you really married?"
Cherish fell silent, and Oscar glanced at her hands, teasing, "Huh? Why aren’t you wearing a ring? A married woman who doesn’t wear a ring? That’s rare! Or is your husband so thrifty that he didn’t buy you one? Or should I let William give you one as a wedding gift or I could give you one, too..."
Oscar rambled on, while Cherish clenched her fists, unable to handle it any longer, and growled, "I... I’m not married!"
474: The Deepest Pain
Oscar was taken aback by her words before regaining his composure. He just saw her stubborn face, lips tightly pursed. He couldn’t help but be puzzled, a deep glint flickering in his eyes like calculating something interesting. He just laughed and said, "Then what are you now? Torturing William? Not getting married but telling him you did, do you know how upset he’d be? Miss Turner, you should know his feelings for you!"
"I just want to see him. Knowing he’s fine is enough," Cherish whispered softly. After all, too much had happened between them. Sam had caused Hailey so much pain, lost her baby, and suffered amnesia. Cherish was too ashamed to face Hailey, her close friend.
