Chapter 605: Chapter 593: Serving Jail Time as a Substitute
"Oh?" Oscar Winston questioned suspiciously.
"He’s in trouble!"
"Who?" Oscar asked purposely.
"William Griffith!" Cherish Turner gritted her teeth and looked up at him with pleading eyes. "He’s involved in a commercial crime case, can’t be released on bail, and will not see anyone other than his defense lawyer! Can you help him? I know that Mr. Winston is the most famous and capable lawyer, and he will find a way!"
"Haha." Oscar chuckled, his handsome face arrogant. "You’re giving me quite the responsibility!"
"I’m certain Mr. Winston can help! I believe!" Cherish insisted.
"Do you believe in me?" Oscar retorted. "Don’t you believe in him?"
Cherish clenched her fists, struggling with herself. Her voice trembled as she choked up, "It’s not that I don’t believe in him! It’s because I do believe in him that I want to ask for Mr. Winston’s help! I just don’t know how to help him and what I can do for him! I will do anything I can think of and achieve!"
"Who are you to him that you’re helping him like this?"
Cherish hesitated for a moment and finally uttered the word, "Friend."
"Friend." Oscar repeated the word. He stopped smiling and asked calmly, "What makes you think you can convince me to help?"
"Only his woman can convince me. Are you?" Oscar said indifferently, causing Cherish to widen her eyes.
At this moment, Cherish couldn’t answer, she had no answer.
She had once loved him so deeply that she couldn’t bear to touch the subject. She was afraid of touching it, thinking she could face him calmly when they met again. She thought once they parted ways, it would truly be the end. She was unwilling to open those emails and unwilling to return to their favorite little shop. When she couldn’t sleep at night, her mind was filled with memories from the past. How was she supposed to face these memories?
Cherish seemed engulfed by her thoughts, her eyes filled with unshed tears.
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Oscar didn’t dare to tease her anymore. He was afraid of what would happen if someone found out. After all, it’s not right to deceive a brother’s wife. "Miss Turner, I didn’t say I wouldn’t help!"
"So does Mr. Winston mean that he will help?" Cherish persisted, her voice choking as she lowered her head.
"Rest tonight, and we’ll leave tomorrow!" said Oscar with no sense of crisis, smiling.
"Mr. Winston, can we leave right now?" Cherish asked, swallowing the bitterness in her heart and pleading.
Oscar picked up his teacup and took a sip of Longjing tea. "Aren’t you tired from traveling from Sea City to New York?"
Cherish stubbornly replied, "Not tired!"
"All right, if you’re not tired, let’s leave now!" Oscar picked up the phone and pressed the direct line button. Cherish listened to him give instructions and arrangements, her heart finally settling down.
After a while, the secretary knocked on the door and entered. "Mr. Winston, everything has been arranged, and we’re ready to go."
Oscar glanced at Cherish and they both stood up. As they left the guest room and walked downstairs, a woman rushed towards them and stopped abruptly, saying, "Mr. Winston, the young lady is sick!"
"If she’s sick, call a doctor! Don’t you even have that much common sense?" Oscar still smiled, but his demeanor felt icy.
"But the young lady refuses to go to the hospital!" The woman said, clearly troubled.
"Secretary King, take her to the hospital! Tell her that if she doesn’t go, I will tear her house down!" Oscar said sternly as he walked forward without turning his head. Secretary Campbell nodded and immediately left with the woman. Cherish followed quietly, puzzled by the exchange.
Once they were in the car, Cherish couldn’t help saying, "Mr. Winston, if you have something to do, you can stay tonight and leave tomorrow!"
Oscar smiled at her, then slowly said, "Start the car!"
The fifth day had arrived since leaving Sea City.
Cherish hadn’t slept well for the past few days, looking pale from the tense atmosphere. Upon landing, someone had come to pick them up. Cherish instantly recognized him as Wilson Ferguson, William Griffith’s private lawyer. She figured they were friends and must have already been in contact.
"Mr. Winston, this way, please!" Lawyer Ferguson said gravely, then nodded respectfully at Cherish. However, it was clear that the "please" did not include her.
Cherish wasn’t angry, just worried. "Lawyer Ferguson, is he all right?" she asked.
