Chapter 567: Chapter 566: Let’s Be Late Together
He hated those three words, he always did. Why wouldn’t she say something else, but instead had to say those three words.
William Griffith’s gaze fell emptily on the floor; Cherish Turner put down the towel, held up his handsome face with both hands, and made him look at her. She smiled softly, reassuringly, her clear gaze looking straight into his heart, telling him earnestly, "William, your grandma must have really loved you, even if she’s no longer by your side."
William’s voice was low and hoarse, "It’s too late, stay and sleep."
Cherish didn’t refuse, nodding in agreement.
They embraced and slept well that night; it was rare for him to be so well-behaved. But when she woke up in the morning, Cherish was startled awake by someone’s passionate kiss. As William pecked her neck, he purposely tried to wake her up. She opened her eyes drowsily, seeing his handsome face in front of her. Glancing at the time, thinking that she needed to go to work, she pushed him away, but he insisted, mumbling, "Let’s be late together."
"Ah!" Cherish let out a soft exclamation, tickled by him.
She was supposed to start work at nine, but Cherish didn’t arrive at the office until 10:30.
Being late was a rare occurrence for her, and the reason for her tardiness today was really hard to explain, even though it made her blush sweetly. Her colleagues joked that it was almost time for lunch, and she nodded bashfully. She went to the manager’s office to apologize, and the manager didn’t say much; as per the usual rules, she would not receive the full attendance award this month.
On WeChat, Cherish grumbled casually: The result of being late is losing the full attendance award.
Boss: Oh.
She added: Let’s go to the hospital tonight.
Boss replied with a single word: Mhm.
Although Robert Griffith’s condition had stabilized, it seemed that he hadn’t recovered much, perhaps due to his state of mind. He ate little and spoke even less. The Griffith family parents, who were at his side taking care of him, knew his temperament and knew that he wouldn’t speak when he didn’t feel like it. She peeled an apple with a fruit knife, glancing at the door now and then.
Finally, the door was gently knocked and opened.
May Campbell looked at the person who entered and sure enough, saw William Griffith’s figure appear; she seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. But noticing his right hand, she asked in surprise, "William, what happened to your hand?"
William glanced at her and nodded slightly, "It’s nothing."
Robert Griffith lay on the hospital bed with his eyes half-closed, glancing at him but saying nothing.
"Dad, have an apple." May went to his side and cut the apple into small slices to feed him. For the first time ever, he ate the entire apple without leaving a single bite.
Lincoln Wood also brought Sophie Wood to visit, "Brother Griffith! How’s your health? Sister-in-law Griffith, you’ve had a hard time these days!"
"Uncle Griffith, Auntie Griffith. I came here especially to see Grandpa Griffith." Sophie said obediently.
"Sophie, have a seat."
After chatting with Lincoln Wood for a while, Robert Griffith thought it was time for them to leave. Before leaving, he said, "Old man, my flight is tomorrow, so I wanted to tell you. You take good care of yourself and don’t worry too much about the company, it’s a young man’s world now."
"William, come visit when you have time." Lincoln Wood laughed, and William responded with a "Mhm."
Just as Lincoln Wood and Sophie had left the hospital room, his phone rang.
Lincoln took out his phone to answer. From the other end, a subordinate’s deep voice reported, "Sir, Lady Lottie has arrived in Haicheng."
"When did she arrive?"
The subordinate replied, "Half an hour ago."
"Do you know where she went?" Lincoln Wood frowned and asked.
"Sir, Lady Lottie didn’t say. She just told me to tell you that she will come to find you later." The subordinate said respectfully, and Lincoln Wood hung up the phone.
"Dad? What’s wrong?" Sophie saw his solemn expression and asked doubtfully.
Lincoln Wood smiled and patted her shoulder, "Daddy has something to do; you go back to the hotel first and rest."
