Chapter 560: Chapter 559: Lost and Regained
Cherish Turner had no choice but to start instructing, "First, wash the rice. It’s in the second cabinet below."
William Griffith did open the cabinet and found the rice container. He washed the rice and cooked it according to Cherish’s instructions. Cooking the rice was easy, but the dishes were difficult to make.
"William, turn the heat down a bit!"
"Quickly cover the pot, it’s about to burn!"
"Add a little salt and a little sugar! William, a little doesn’t mean a tablespoon..."
This meal turned out burnt, and it was unclear if it was even edible. The smell of burnt food filled the apartment, and even William himself couldn’t bear to look at it. He simply pushed it aside and said sternly, "Let’s eat out!"
"No!" Cherish stood up and stopped him, "It took a long time to make this, let’s give it a try! Hurry up and serve it!"
With a cool, expressionless face, William reluctantly turned around and served the dishes.
Finally, the dishes were served, and the two sat facing each other. William stared at the unappetizing food, frowning and grimacing. On the other hand, Cherish was eating happily and didn’t forget to urge him, "Why aren’t you eating?"
"It must taste terrible." He spat out a few words and picked up his chopsticks to take a bite of rice.
"Yeah." Cherish didn’t bother comforting him and shamelessly nodded in agreement.
William glanced at her, resentfully saying, "I told you we should eat out."
"It’s different when you cook it." Cherish cradled her bowl, the laughter apparent in her eyes, but he just sulkily lowered his head and didn’t respond.
After dinner, William held Cherish while they watched TV on the sofa. One of the programs discussed birthday celebrations, so Cherish asked, "William, when’s your birthday?"
"I’m not telling you."
"Tell me, please."
"I won’t tell you."
"Please tell me!"
"I, am, not, telling, you!"
"What day is it?" She deliberately pouted, and William raised his eyebrows, feeling tickled by her act. "Lunar calendar, January 9th."
Cherish did the math and furrowed her brow in frustration. Wouldn’t that be next year? But last winter, Lewis gave him a gift, and wasn’t it an inflatable doll?
"Let’s celebrate early, my birthday gift... you!" He lifted her chin and sealed her lips with a kiss.
After their bliss, the two took a bath and cuddled in the bed for a short rest.
William smoked a cigarette, glanced at the clock which neared midnight, and finally got dressed to leave. Cherish had already changed back into her pajamas and smoothed the wrinkles on his suit. Standing before him, her careful movements were quiet, gentle, and well-behaved. In a moment of struggle, he didn’t know if he remembered something or was resisting something.
Cherish looked up at him and saw his serious expression, his brows furrowed. Thinking he was worried about his grandfather, she gently stroked his forehead and, for the first time, commanded, "Don’t frown."
William’s gaze focused, locking onto her. He pulled something out of his suit pocket and grabbed her hand, placing the object in her palm. Cherish thought it was something he had taken back, like a particular item. But the hard feel denied her assumption; looking down, she saw the ruby ring.
The ring he had given her, and that she had once returned to him.
"Breaking up" were probably the two words she least wanted to say. So she’d rather hide in her shell than stick her head out.
Cherish carefully held the ring, appreciating the reclaimed treasure even more.
