Chapter 552 - 551: Engagement

After being led onto the stage by the hostess, Robert Griffith began his speech. "It’s an honor that all of you have attended our celebration despite your busy schedules. Today, we not only celebrate the 30th anniversary of Griffiths but also announce something else - my eldest grandson, William Griffith, will be engaged to Miss Sophie Wood!"

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone in the audience was surprised and wide-eyed.

President Griffith is getting engaged? With whom? Which family’s daughter? In the darkness of the hall, two spotlights shone, illuminating both William Griffith and Sophie Wood, who was seated next to him in the front row. The seating arrangement seemed fitting as the younger generations sat on one side. Yet, given the current situation, it was unclear if it was intentional or coincidental.

Eagerly, everyone looked over and indeed saw Miss Sophie Wood.

Sophie Wood, dressed in a wine-red gown, appeared noble and gentle, exuding an air of sophistication. One glance and you could tell she was from a prestigious family. The rubies sparkled in the light, dazzling the eyes. Her gown and ruby earrings were personally selected by Madam Griffith and sent over. On the outside, Sophie maintained a faint smile, but inside, she was feeling restless and disoriented.

Yannis Griffith, sitting next to Sophie Wood, glanced sidelong at Cherish Turner, who was only two seats away. The darkness and distance made it difficult for him to see her clearly, but he could make out her pale side profile.

From a seat behind them, Daniel Peacock stared at the scene before him with cold, hawk-like eyes. A glimmer of hope seemed to spark in his restrained gaze as he fixed his attention on a petite figure nearby. However, the persistent whispers around them made him furrow his brow with dissatisfaction, instinctively protecting someone.

"What is President Griffith doing with that woman?"

"Who knows? It’s so embarrassing!"

Upon hearing these words, Daniel Peacock coldly glanced back at the two gossiping women and sternly spat, "Shut up!"

Both women were startled, silenced by his intimidating tone and said no more.

Cherish, however, was stunned. Since walking into the hotel earlier, she had been extremely nervous. As she listened to the chairman announce William and Sophie’s imminent engagement, she felt completely blank inside. In her confusion, she suddenly felt someone’s hand gripping hers tightly, snapping her back to reality.

Cherish slowly turned her head to see William’s emotionless, handsome face, his eyes looking straight ahead.

However, the two protagonists of the engagement showed no intention of standing up, remaining seated without moving.

Robert Griffith continued, his bold and powerful voice filling the air. "We will inform everyone of the engagement details once a specific date has been decided. We hope to have your support on this special occasion!"

Suddenly, applause erupted like rolling thunder.

After the speech of Elder Chairman Griffith had concluded, the host invited Griffith’s CEO, William Griffith, to give a speech on stage.

Cherish watched William on stage, shining like the sun. She suddenly recalled a phrase he had said more than a year ago – that he could give her anything except his status. But she never expected his engagement partner to be Sophie Wood! The news came too suddenly, leaving her unable to react.

Once the speeches were over and the seats cleared, the banquet resumed.
