Chapter 550: Chapter 549: Griffith’s Celebration
Having finally got out of bed, Cherish Turner stood in front of her mirror adjusting her clothes. William Griffith rose to his feet, his voice deep as he said, "I’ll pick you up tomorrow night."
Cherish assumed he meant after work, and didn’t give it much thought.
The next day after work, as promised, William Griffith came to pick her up. However, instead of taking her home, he brought her to a boutique. He left her in the care of the shop staff and Cherish was treated like a life-size doll, with people applying makeup and styling her hair. After a full hour, she emerged, looking completely transformed, in William Griffith’s line of sight.
With a frown, William Griffith stared at the low-cut dress and said sternly, "Change your dress! And it can’t be too revealing!"
"Yes, Young Master Griffith!"
So Cherish changed into another dress, pairing it with a pearl short skirt. Her makeup was flawless, her attire perfect. Everything was just right. Except for the shawl she was wearing; it was like a sore thumb that covered her beauty, looking comically odd. Oddly enough, William Griffith didn’t seem to mind and left the boutique with her, appearing satisfied.
Cherish called out to him, confused, "William Griffith?"
"Call me William."
Well then, she’d call him however he wanted. "William," she said. The name, for some reason, felt strangely intimate.
Not until their car reached a glittering five-star hotel, and William Griffith led her down the red carpet amidst admiring glances, did she snap out of it. She was so flabbergasted that she could barely compose herself.
Oh my God! It was the Griffith’s 30th Anniversary Gala!
Attending the 30th Anniversary Gala of the Griffiths were not only the executives of Griffith Corporation but also the four major shareholders. Naturally, Chairman Isaac Griffith, May Campbell, and the elders of the Griffith Family were present. The event saw a slew of celebrities from different sectors of Haicheng, including politicians and businesspeople, making it a lavish feast. Griffith Corporation had come a long way in the 30 years since its inception by Robert Griffith. The trail to transforming from a small enterprise to a large corporation with a complete system had not been a smooth one.
The Griffith Corporation of today was undoubtedly the leader in Haicheng’s financial sector.
The entire lobby was booked for the celebration, resplendently decorated for the grand occasion. The men and women who attended the event were dressed in their finest. The women in particular viewed it as more than just a celebration, but a competition of beauty. Groups of beautifully dressed women gathered, chit-chatting over champagne.
In one corner of the banquet, Robert Griffith was in conversation with the elderly lady of the Griffith Family and the top four shareholders.
Then, by the entrance of the lobby, a figure that was both graceful and beautiful appeared.
Sophie Wood, the heiress of the Wood Clan, turned heads in her burgundy dress. Her hair was elegantly swept up, accessorized with ruby earrings, reflecting a noble and dignified air. She picked up a glass of champagne from a server’s tray and slowly made her way to Mr. and Mrs. Griffith.
"Grandpa Griffith, Granny Griffith, Uncle Griffith, Auntie Griffith, Uncle Lee, Uncle Graham, Uncle Clarke, Uncle Quid." Sophie Wood called out, doing her best to be polite and respectful.
"When did you come back, Sophie?" asked May Campbell, holding Sophie’s hand affectionately.
With a smile, Sophie Wood replied, "I just returned today."
"What are you doing these days, Sophie?"
"Uncle Clarke, I haven’t been doing much, just staying with mommy."
"Is your mommy in good health?"
"She’s quite well."
The people chatted away, talking about this and that. The atmosphere was cordial with laughter throughout.
Robert Griffith, however, kept throwing glances outside the lobby, seemingly waiting for someone. He checked his Swiss watch and his expression slightly soured.
