Domineering Love
Chapter 544 - 543: Liberation

Chapter 544: Chapter 543: Liberation

Cherish Turner lifted her head and smiled amicably at everyone. Suddenly, her phone rang. Looking down, she saw three words displayed on the screen, "Yannis Griffith". Picking up the call, she greeted in a gentle voice. On the other side of the line, Yannis said, "Cherish, I happen to be running errands in the neighborhood, how about we have tea together later?"

"Okay." Cherish agreed, thinking maybe she could ask Senior Yannis about the Griffiths’ affairs. Hanging up the phone, she turned to Harris and apologized, "Harris, you don’t have to buy a serving for me."

"Assistant Turner, do you have a date?" Harris asked with a teasing smile, causing everyone to turn their attention towards her.

Cherish just smiled, tacitly admitting it.

The coffee shop near their office was always bustling with workers in the afternoon. They’d stop by for a cup of coffee and a dessert, basking in the warm sunshine. The two of them were seated on the sofa, each ordering a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. After one sip, they were content with the blend of coffee’s perfect trio of sweetness, acidity and bitterness.

"Blue Mountain Coffee, known as the world’s finest coffee." Yannis’ deep, warm voice echoed by her ear. "The Blue Mountains is located on the eastern end of Jamaica Island, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. On clear days, the sun reflects a dazzling blue on the azure ocean surface from atop these mountains, hence the name."

"Senior, your family doesn’t happen to be in the coffee business, do they?" Surprised by his extensive knowledge, Cherish asked doubtfully.

Yannis shook his head and looked intently into the distance. Tentatively, he asked, "Yesterday, I saw my brother picking you up... Are you guys..." His voice sank a few notes, "... back together?"

The unexpected question caused Cherish to pause.

Yannis, whose face was usually so clear, now looked a bit tense. He tipped up his eyebrows and clenched the handle of his coffee cup. His superficially warm eyes hid an underlying turmoil. His heart was shaking, fearing he might receive an answer he didn’t want to hear.

That answer, they...

"We..." Her voice sounded a little dazed. Cherish smiled faintly, calmly stating, "We are friends."

Such a relationship, labeled as friendship. She never thought the day would come when she would describe him and her as such.

Yannis’ brown eyes sparked for a moment before dimming again. She did not notice how radiant her gaze and smile looked at that moment. He smiled back, only he knew how this situation tasted like. He told her with a deeper tone, "My brother is no longer the CEO of Griffith’s."

"I’ve read the news." Cherish’s heart tightened. She wanted to ask why, why things had changed so suddenly, but held back and didn’t ask.

As he took a sip of coffee, the aromatic fluid flowed gently down to his throat. Yannis responded, "I guess we should have seen this day coming. Or perhaps, I should say, it’s a kind of liberation."

Liberation? These words were so laden with heaviness.

Cherish’s calm face lost its tranquility. She looked at Yannis silently, hoping he would tell her why. But he changed the subject and began talking about something else. They chatted and laughed in a casual, relaxed manner but she had lost the spirit to listen.

The afternoon sun shone on her face, her clear eyes were filled with confusion and worry.

"It’s getting late, you should get back to work." Yannis reminded her, smiling gently.

Cherish moved her lips, as if she wanted to say something, but in the end just nodded agreement, "I am leaving now. Bye."

"Bye." Yannis waved at her, watching as she adopted a faint smile and stood up to leave. He watched her descend the stairs and glanced outside the window, where she could be seen exiting the café and crossing the street, her steps steady and assured.

He turned his gaze back, took a sip of his coffee, and a look of intense depression appeared in his eyes.

Her cup of coffee was practically untouched, almost as full as when it was served.

Sometimes not asking doesn’t mean you don’t want to know.

But asking doesn’t mean you really care.
