Chapter 542: Chapter 541: Should I return it to him

The small kitchen was cramped with two people in the not-so-spacious space. The soup in the pot was boiling, making "plop-plop" sounds, accompanied by the gurgle of water. She handed him the prepared sauce while he took it and clumsily poured it slowly into the pot.

"Don’t let the sauce stick to the bottom of the pot, remember to stir it with a spoon," Cherish Turner reminded him and then rushed out of the kitchen and into the bathroom.

After a while, the glass door opened, and Cherish’s petite figure emerged. She turned her head to see William Griffith standing in the kitchen, stirring the soup in the pot in circles with a spoon. The action was like that of a robot, repeated again and again.

That resolute side profile exuded a sense of calmness that could make people stare in fascination.

When she was little, Cherish had once asked Bob Turner why her father didn’t cook.

Bob Turner laughed and replied, "Because, I like watching mom cook."

But why watch mom cook?

Cherish smiled and walked into the kitchen, standing beside him, and busily started working together.

Once the hotpot soup base was set to keep warm, Cherish moved all the sushi ingredients onto the dining table, and the two changed locations. This was also Cherish’s first time making sushi, so she had just searched the internet for tips on how to make it.

William stared blankly at the rice and seaweed in front of him, hesitantly starting to roll the sushi.

"William, why are your sushi rice balls so big?"

"Huh?"

"No, no, put less filling in, otherwise you can’t wrap it up."

"Okay!"

"Um...why does this sushi look like a glutinous rice dumpling?"

"..."

After finally finishing making the sushi and taking several hours, they could finally sit down and eat. With the steaming hot pot, they dipped vegetables and fish slices into it. He sat at one end, and she sat at the other, with two servings of sushi in front of them—one delicately and intricately made while the other was an unrecognizable "giant" sushi.

"Let’s dig in!" exclaimed Cherish happily, yet picking up a piece of the "giant" sushi. Sushi should usually be eaten in one bite, but the one in her hand was too big, so she bit hard, only able to eat half of it. Her mouth was full of rice, wrapped around the delicious scallops, and she smiled happily at him, "It’s delicious."

"Try the one I made," Cherish picked up a sushi she had prepared herself, and held it out to him.

William hesitated but kept quiet, opening his mouth to eat the sushi.

"How is it?" she asked expectantly, staring intently at him, finally seeing him nod his head.

She had never understood before, but now, as she looked at the man cooking in the kitchen, listening to her words and eating the sushi they made together, she suddenly realized.

So...that was what happiness felt like.

It was that simple.

In the blink of an eye, an hour passed, and more than half of the food on the dining table was gone. There were still a few pieces of sushi left, and Cherish picked them up with chopsticks and put them into a take-out container and into the fridge. As she walked back to the table to clean up the dishes, she said, "There are still some sushi left; we can eat them tomorrow if we get hungry."

William sat on the sofa, staring at the television screen, and silently responded with a hum.

After washing the dishes and cleaning the table, Cherish untied her apron and finally relaxed. Only then did she realize it was already late. She walked out of the kitchen and looked at him sitting on the sofa. She rummaged through her pocket and found the key.

That was the key to his apartment.

She hadn’t returned it to him before, nor had she even had the opportunity to see him.

But now, she hesitated, unsure whether or not to return it to him.
