Chapter 525: Chapter 524: Forget It
He raised his eyebrows, and William Griffith squinted, his tone of voice conveying some displeasure when he called, "Cherish!"
"It’s already late, let’s head back," Cherish Turner whispered before turning and walking towards the amusement park’s exit. He took steady strides following behind her. They left the water palace and walked out of the amusement park, neither of them saying a word. Suddenly, he caught up to her in a few large steps, gripping her small hand and leading her to the parking lot.
Cherish shook her hand, but couldn’t break free.
After getting in the car, Cherish hugged her backpack tightly, gazing out the window without looking at him. At this moment, she didn’t know what was going on inside her heart.
But the car didn’t start. Cherish Turner couldn’t help but look back and ask hesitantly, "Why aren’t you starting the car?"
As she turned, her gaze met William Griffith’s intensely fixed eyes. Her heart jolted, and she felt unease. "You..." She was about to speak, but the car seat suddenly reclined. She gasped softly and hurriedly tried to sit up. He, however, leaned toward her, resting his hands on either side of her body, trapping her and not letting her up, his hoarse voice calling out.
"Cherish."
"You... let me up!" Cherish tried to push him away, her face blushing.
"Why not?" he asked, gazing intently at her.
Cherish paused, feeling his deep eyes seem to peer through her and scrutinize her inner thoughts. She turned her head away, not wanting to maintain eye-contact, and said weakly, "Just... not."
"So what do you want?" William Griffith’s dark eyes churned with deep, concealed storms.
"Nothing," Cherish murmured softly, her heart suddenly turning cold. What she wanted was too extravagant; a man like him would probably never give her that.
William Griffith’s brows furrowed as he asked once more, "Won’t you reconsider?"
"Mm-" she nodded, her heart wavering with a tinge of bitterness.
"Forget it," William Griffith sighed deeply, not pressing further. His slender fingers lightly touched her smooth cheek, flicking away the strands of hair clinging to her face.
Cherish felt the weight lifted from her body and the seat rose. She looked downward, not daring to meet his eyes, while he reached across her, fastening her seatbelt. The car swayed slightly as it pulled out of the parking lot. The air was stifling, so Cherish rolled down the window. Trees lining the road swayed gently in the wind.
The night was deep, and the city lights were beautiful.
As the wind grew colder, she rolled the window back up.
Cherish saw her blurry reflection in the car window, a pair of slightly desolate eyes... those belonged to her.
Returning to their building, they went their separate ways to their apartments.
After unlocking her door, Cherish Turner wearily tossed her backpack onto her bed. She sat on the edge of the bed and then lay down. Her phone buzzed in her backpack; she picked it up slowly, seeing Mother Turner’s name on the screen. Immediately, she sat up straight and answered the call.
"Mom."
Her mother’s gentle voice came through the other end, a hint of anxiety evident. "Cherish, are you busy? I’ve been trying to call you all afternoon, but couldn’t get through."
"I went out. Yeah, I was a bit busy," Cherish responded.
"Are you free tomorrow?"
"Yes, I’m free tomorrow." Hearing her mother asking, Cherish knew she’d be meeting with her the next day.
"Let’s have lunch together tomorrow, okay?"
"Sure."
"We’ll talk about it more when we meet up."
"Mom, goodnight."
"Goodnight."
