Chapter 517: Chapter 516: Sleeping Together at Night
Cherish Turner stood at the entryway, looking at the dark apartment, biting her lip in annoyance.
Was she too late?
Heavy footsteps sounded from behind. She stiffened and turned around suddenly, only to see him standing behind her. He was only wearing a shirt and trousers without a suit jacket. He held a packet of cigarettes in his hand, clearly about to get a smoke. She finally realized, he must’ve gone out to buy cigarettes.
She looked at him, his cold handsome face always devoid of emotions. Perhaps it was an illusion, but there seemed to be a hint of sorrow in his slightly knitted brows. She noticed some stubble on his firm chin. He was always clean and heroic, how could he have such a haggard side?
Somewhat saddened, she surprisingly felt upset.
Cherish Turner stood in front of him, hesitated for a moment, then raised the bag in her hand, looked at him cautiously, smiled and said, "I didn’t have time to cook, so I bought some takeout. Not sure if it’s good or not, want to try some?" With that, she turned on the wall light and walked into the apartment.
William Griffith stayed silent as the light suddenly brightened.
He closed the door behind him, walked into the living room, and sat down on the sofa to have a smoke again.
Cherish placed the food on a plate and brought it to the coffee table. She noticed his persistent smoking and felt either irritated or concerned. For the first time, she jerked the cigarette from his hand and crushed it in the ashtray, "Stop smoking, eat first."
William Griffith slowly looked up, his gaze cold.
Cherish became somewhat nervous, "Smoking is bad for your health."
She stood in front of him with her head lowered, like a child who had done something wrong. But her obstinate stature told him just how much she insisted on being herself.
An amused chuckle suddenly escaped from William, surprising her. He spoke casually, "I could go for some noodles."
Noodles? Cherish was momentarily taken aback before she rushed towards the kitchen, sorting through the fridge for ingredients, "I only have tomatoes and eggs, is that alright?"
"Whatever." He uttered the two words.
Cherish quickly got to work and made him a bowl of noodles. As she held the steaming bowl in front of him, she handed him the chopsticks. She watched as he silently ate his noodles. After a bite, he paused, causing her heart to skip a beat, he nonchalantly said, "It still tastes the same."
The same taste... Cherish remembered the bowl of noodles she made when she moved to Yinsen. He only took a few bites then and didn’t eat any more. She had thought at that time that it didn’t suit his taste.
"What does it taste like?" Cherish smiled and asked.
William Griffith paused before grumbling, "It tastes like when I was a kid."
When he was young and visited his grandmother, she would make him the same kind of noodles. Because she loved him most, there were always two eggs in his bowl, while Yannis and Hailey only had one.
A ripple spread across the still water of Cherish’s heart as she silently watched him finish his noodles. She picked up his bowl and went into the kitchen to wash dishes. Amidst the sound of running water, she suddenly felt arms encircling her from behind. She stiffened as he buried his head in her neck.
A low, husky male voice sounded in her ear, seeping into her heart. "Tonight... let’s sleep together."
Cherish was taken aback, and she paused in her washing. As the water continued to rush over the dishes, she held the bowl, her eyebrows furrowing. She refused him softly, yet firmly replied, "No."
"Hmph." His laughter sounded in her ear again, so deep.
The breath from his laughter made her entire body shudder.
