Chapter 499: Chapter 498: Not inviting me to sit upstairs?
"Why don’t you eat? I’ll share one with you!" Cherish Turner said softly, taking a rice ball and handing it to him.
William Griffith’s gaze fixed on her, "I’d rather eat something else."
His expression was so serious, with no hint of teasing, but his words sounded ambiguous. Cherish’s ears turned slightly red, and she withdrew her hand awkwardly. Not knowing what to say, she simply stopped talking. She turned her head to glance out the car window, not looking at him. His reflection, however, faintly surfaced in her eyes.
They didn’t finish work until nearly eleven o’clock that night.
They visited forty-three employees and successfully brought all forty-three back to their posts.
On the way to Spring Garden, Cherish received a call from Elijah Butler, asking her when she would be back. Cherish told him they were already on their way and would arrive soon. William sat beside her, resting with his eyes closed, his thin lips pressed together, not saying a word. His furrowed brow, however, betrayed his emotions.
When they arrived at Spring Garden, Cherish got out of the car, and William also got out.
"Mr. Griffith, thank you for driving me home," Cherish looked back at him and said softly, "I’ll be at work tomorrow at seven."
William glanced at the driver, Chip, and ordered, "You can go now."
"Yes, Young Master Griffith." Chip immediately responded and drove away.
Cherish was puzzled, what was he up to?
He spoke leisurely, "Aren’t you going to invite me in for a visit?"
"It’s too late, and not very convenient." Cherish thought of Elijah Butler and instinctively decided they couldn’t meet.
"Yeah, it’s too late, and I haven’t had dinner yet," William said, reaching for a cigarette as he spoke.
Cherish wanted to warn him against smoking, but decided against it at the last moment, saying quietly, "Haven’t you said you’re hungry? Don’t smoke, then."
William’s actions stopped as he looked at her, saying calmly, "If you didn’t cook it, I won’t eat it."
Cherish frowned at his words, worrying for him since he had hardly eaten all day. After hesitating, she finally nodded. William indeed put away his cigarette and followed her as she turned and walked into the residential area.
Inside the apartment, Elijah Butler was waiting for Cherish, watching TV on the couch.
When he heard the keys turning in the door, Elijah looked back immediately. He saw Cherish, but also the man behind her. Cherish was petite, reaching only to the man’s chest. Following his gaze upward, he met the divinely sculpted face. Recognizing William, Elijah sprang up from the sofa.
Wasn’t that William Griffith?
Even though Elijah had never met him face to face, he was plastered all over the news and magazines; it was impossible not to recognize him.
Elijah rushed towards Cherish, grabbing her wrist and pulling her behind him. Before Cherish could react, Elijah spoke, "Oh? Isn’t this Mr. Griffith? You must have brought our little Cherish home, right? Now that she’s safely home, we won’t waste any more of your time!"
Elijah smirked, reaching for the door to close it.
William held the door open with one hand, Elijah obviously unable to match his strength. "Anything else?"
"I came to eat." He said righteously, his voice low.
Cherish intervened in time, "We were busy until late, and he hasn’t had dinner."
"Dinner? Then go to a hotel restaurant! Or go home and let the servants cook! Our Cherish is just a secretary, helping Mr. Griffith with work, as she should! She’s paid to do her job – it’s her duty! But being a secretary doesn’t include cooking! You’d better not get confused, Mr. Griffith!"
