Chapter 494: Chapter 493: Calculation
Rumors buzzed about the Griffith Family’s collapse. Countless citizens began withdrawing cash from the Griffith bank, causing an absence of liquid capital and halting operations. Coupled with Yannis Griffith’s departure, chaos ensued within the company. A third of the employees secretly defected or went on strike; concurrently, the stocks plummeted, pushing the Griffith Family into an unprecedented crisis.
"Master, have some ginseng tea, please don’t ruin your health." The elder lady handed him the tea.
"Master, Madam, the eldest young master is back!" The housekeeper rushed into the side hall to report.
As soon as the words fell, William Griffith walked in slowly. He sat down on the sofa and said gravely, "There’s no need to worry about the financial issue."
"What about the employees?" Robert Griffith asked, a worried expression on his face.
"I’ll handle it." William Griffith replied calmly, then stood up and prepared to leave.
Watching William Griffith leave, Robert turned to the elder lady, "I knew that little brat would contact you. Tell me, where is he now?"
Looking troubled, the older lady hesitated, "Yannis hasn’t contacted me."
The car rushed back to the Griffith residence and then left again.
"President Griffith, we just established contact with the five major banks in Haicheng. A meeting has been arranged with the manager of Guangsha Bank at 1:30 pm." A subordinate immediately reported on the schedule, heading towards Guangsha Bank.
The summer heat wave intensifies in Haicheng.
The air conditioning was on in the bank, warmed by body heat.
Citizens waiting to complete transactions sat in a line as a long queue formed at the front. In a corner of the hall, a little girl was playing shuttlecock. However, she wasn’t very good at it, only managing one kick at a time. Due to an overly forceful kick, the shuttlecock flew away.
A serene woman stood at the back of a group waiting for an interview; Cherish Turner had been standing for half an hour and would keep waiting for some time. Er Xi still hadn’t come out.
A shuttlecock landed at her feet, causing her to pause, reach down, and pick it up. Feeling slightly bored, she played with it, performing several kicks.
"Wow! Sister, you’re amazing! You’re so good at kicking a shuttlecock! Don’t stop, sister!" The little girl ran up to the woman with a bright smile.
A group of figures appeared at the bank entrance.
"President Griffith! Please, this way!" The receptionist immediately greeted the group and led them towards the elevator.
"Fifty-six, fifty-seven, fifty-eight..." The crisp, youthful voice counting numbers caught people’s attention.
William Griffith’s gaze inadvertently glanced at the corner - a floor-to-ceiling window displayed the bustling street outside. The petite figure kicked the shuttlecock, her back towards him. His eyes instantly narrowed, feeling a sense of familiarity. As the girl kicked the shuttlecock, she slowly turned around. Her brilliant smile suddenly filled his sight.
He realized her smile had grown even more beautiful than before.
Cherish Turner felt someone’s gaze on her, a scorching look. Her kicks were no longer smooth, and the shuttlecock flew away. She hurriedly reached to catch it as it fell. The little girl sighed disappointedly, "Sister, you were so close to a hundred! What a pity!"
"Honey, I’m done! Let’s go!" A middle-aged woman suddenly called out to the little girl.
The little girl looked up, "Sister, I’m leaving! Bye-bye!"
"Bye!" Cherish Turner patted the little girl and returned the shuttlecock. As she watched the girl run towards her mother, hand-in-hand, they left, and an inexplicable feeling washed over her.
The elevator descended at that moment, and the group stepped inside one by one.
As the elevator doors closed slowly, William Griffith’s hawk-like gaze faded away.
