Chapter 452: Chapter 453 Lewis
But every time she saw him, he would ruffle her hair and hug her close. Just smelling the pleasant scent of tobacco on him, she’d be so infatuated that she didn’t want to let go. So, like a snail that had finally peeked out of its shell, when words came to her lips, she’d swallow them back and retreat into her shell, hiding and never emerging again.
She was just trying to get used to it.
Just like getting used to having him in her life, she was now getting used to the life without him gradually. From seeing and eating together every day, to meeting three or four times a week, and then fewer and fewer, until there was no need to see each other every week, or even every month or year - until she could break this habit altogether.
Trying to quit nicotine was as difficult to Cherish Turner as it was for smokers.
So she tried to distract herself, like learning something new.
As Demon Manga and Griffith’s joint real estate project had just wrapped up and with Griffith handling everything, Cherish naturally returned to report to Editor-in-Chief Davis. Davis had always been fond of Cherish and had taught her much throughout their time together.
"As I agreed to your previous request for a vacation, things have been too busy here lately. Please bear with me a few more days. How about half a day off today? When things slow down in a few days, I’ll give you a break. Cherish, is that okay?" Editor-in-Chief Davis said, his tone full of negotiation and the stacks of paperwork before him proving his busyness.
Cherish smiled and said, "That’s fine, Editor-in-Chief Davis."
Just then, her cell phone rang, and Cherish accepted the call.
It was from Lewis’s school, asking her to come over. Cherish was surprised that Lewis hadn’t called William Griffith instead, and realized it had been a long time since they last met.
The sun was blazing, and it was now 2:10 in the afternoon.
Since she wasn’t very familiar with Lewis’s school, Cherish decided to take a taxi there. As she absorbed the passing scenery, they arrived in the blink of an eye. At the school entrance, a few large red banners flew, and a banner was hung, making the place lively. It turned out they were hosting a children’s sports event - and Cherish realized she still owed Lewis a parent-child trip.
Upon arrival, the teacher promptly led Cherish to Lewis’s class. His glum face instantly brightened up.
"Auntie Cherish, don’t you have to work today? Dad’s always so busy!"
"Auntie is taking the day off."
"Auntie Cherish, did you know? We won the relay race at our school today! I was the last runner, and I overtook another student. Aren’t I amazing?"
Cherish wasn’t well-versed in kindergarten races, but hearing Lewis’s excited words and seeing his proud, beaming face, she couldn’t help but feel proud too. "Lewis, you’re incredible! Auntie will take you for ice cream. Shall we go now?"
"Sure!" Lewis agreed, and the two happily headed for the ice cream shop.
In the sweltering afternoon at the cusp of spring, enjoying a cold ice cream in a comfortable shop was truly a treat.
But as they were eating, Lewis’s nose suddenly started to bleed. At first, they didn’t notice, but when Cherish turned her head, she saw bloodstains on Lewis’s clothes and pants. Frightened, she quickly covered his nose with a napkin, abandoned the remaining ice cream, and asked the shop for an ice pack to stop Lewis’s bleeding...
