Chapter 414: Chapter 415: Stubbornness and Pain Chapter 414: Chapter 415: Stubbornness and Pain “President Griffith.” Cherish Turner called out softly from outside the car.
William Griffith looked straight ahead and said in a deep voice, “Get in.”
Cherish hesitated for a moment before walking around the car and getting in. The cool interior was refreshing with the fan blowing air, making the cold wind bearable. Sitting next to him, her heart suddenly skipped a beat. She tried to remain calm and indifferent, “President Griffith, what can I do for you?”
William didn’t speak, and Cherish waited.
After five minutes of silence, he still hadn’t said a word.
“President Griffith?” Cherish couldn’t help but ask, but he handed her a thermos, “Drink this.”
Cherish was stunned, her gaze slowly shifting from his strong, cold face to the thermos in his hand. She stared blankly for a minute before looking back at him. Suddenly, his cold demeanor seemed to be warmed by the sunlight, revealing a hint of tenderness that made her heart ache.
Cherish didn’t take the thermos but her eyes filled with tears.
William silently unscrewed the thermos lid, and a rich aroma of chicken soup filled the air, enticing one’s appetite. He pushed the thermos towards her and, in a deliberate tone, said, “Drink this before you go.”
Her head lowered, Cherish seemed lost in a daze.
William grabbed her hands and forced the thermos into them, making her hold it. He remained silent for a long time. Seeing her not drinking, his patience drained, and he snapped angrily, “I said drink it before you go!”
It had been so long since she’d heard his voice and seen him like this, sitting together. It was only a matter of days, yet it felt like years. For some reason, the bitter feeling made her miserable. She stubbornly pursed her lips, holding back the tears, determined not to let them fall at this moment.
“Drink it now!” he ordered again, his voice cold and grating.
Cherish trembled but picked up the thermos lid and screwed it back on, “Thank you, President Griffith, but I think I’ll pass.”
Just as she was about to put the thermos down, William grabbed her hand and held onto the thermos. His head turned slightly, and she slowly looked up. Their eyes met, and neither spoke for a long time. She looked away with reddened eyes, glistening with tears.
“If you don’t drink, I’ll tell the Kyoto City headquarters right now that Editor-in-Chief Davis’s promotion is off and you don’t even need to come to the comic society anymore.” William spoke softly, his tone threatening.
Cherish bit her lip and said two words, “I’ll drink.”
William let go of her hand, and she mechanically unscrewed the thermos lid. The rich aroma of Angelica chicken soup filled with red dates, goji berries, and many nourishing ingredients, filled the air. Holding the bottle, the warmth seeped through her palms and into her heart.
Cherish silently finished the chicken soup and put the thermos down, “Thank you, President Griffith.”
She finally opened the car door and stepped out.
William didn’t stop her but lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
Cherish closed the car door behind her, turned, and walked back to her colleagues patrolling the harbor. The hot wind dried the tears in her eyes as she walked, leaving no trace behind.
It turned out that when you become too dependent and trusting towards someone, even stubbornness can be a pain. But Cherish didn’t know how to face a person like him, so even in pain, she could only continue to be stubborn!
