Chapter 334 - 334 334 A Step Too Late

Chapter 334: Chapter 334: A Step Too Late Chapter 334: Chapter 334: A Step Too Late Is he confessing his feelings for her? Could she believe him that he had nothing with Chloe Turner? Then, who was the woman by his side when he didn’t understand what liking someone meant? She knew she shouldn’t be jealous, yet, even such trivial matters bothered her. Falling into William Griffith’s emotional trap was a terrifying, yet intoxicating experience…

Cherish Turner didn’t respond; she simply avoided his gaze, afraid of losing her judgment in the warmth of his gaze.

“What are you planning on doing after leaving Griffith Company? Pursuing a career in America?”

“I have business over there that needs attending to. Leaving Griffith Company is just for personal reasons, it has nothing to do with the company.”

“What about Senior Yannis? I heard he took over your position?”

As for Yannis Griffith, William Griffith, as a man, can’t say he was completely indifferent to him, but it didn’t amount to jealously; he never considered Yannis a competitor. After all, he understood that to Cherish, Yannis was but an older schoolmate, a figure of admiration. The one he truly cared about was Daniel Peacock and whether the Cherish who recalled past matters would return to Daniel’s side was his primary concern.

“Yannis is also part of the Griffith family. It’s quite fair that he succeeded. If I asked you to go with me to America, would you go?”

This was the second time he asked, and Cherish seemed a little cornered.

“Actually, I’ve found out about some matters, William Griffith, I hope you can answer me truthfully, don’t deceive me, can you?” Suddenly, Cherish lifted her eyes to look at William, her eyes had never been this serious before.

William Griffith remained silent, waiting for her to speak.

“The Turner family’s mining operations, that mining accident years ago, did the Griffith company know about it?”

The hand that William Griffith used to hold the chopsticks couldn’t help but tremble. Eventually, she had asked that question.

He seemed unable to deny that he knew; after all, the Griffiths were not completely innocent. The Turner family’s downfall was not entirely unconnected to the Griffiths.

Cherish watched his silence; her heart icy and chilled.

His silence had adequately answered her questions.

“Did you know?” He was, after all, different from the Griffith family, right? Didn’t he claim to love her?

He once again chose to remain silent.

Cherish found it all so absurd. So even though he had done such horrible things, he still professed his love for her, he still tried to keep her by his side?

Did he really think she’s a naive girl who didn’t have any sense of right and wrong? Sure, she didn’t care much for the past, but that didn’t mean she lacked basic morals.

“So, is that why you didn’t want me to come to Kyoto City? Because you were afraid I would learn all this? When so many lives were lost in the mine accident, was the Griffith family really able to be completely indifferent without remorse? That’s terrifying!”

But what Cherish didn’t know was that he had also tried to save people once upon a time. But it was always one step too late; he had an accident and when he woke up, Bob Turner seemed to be on his deathbed. That was the most helpless moment he had faced.

He was filled with regret and guilt, wishing he could have gotten there earlier to warn the Turner family. Therefore, when Bob died in front of him, William was overcome with guilt – he made a promise he’d take good care of Chloe Turner.

But all these words, which were storied in his heart and he had not spoken, were unknown to Cherish.

Standing up, Cherish issued an eviction order: “It’s getting late, you should go.”

William Griffith sat there at the other end, not looking at her, but at the leftover soup in the bowl, remaining silent for a long time.
