Chapter 281 - 281 281 The Bottom Line
Chapter 281: Chapter 281: The Bottom Line Chapter 281: Chapter 281: The Bottom Line On the other side, William Griffith’s car stopped not far from the cafe.
Thomas Harrison looked at William in the car, somewhat worried. Miss Turner had arranged to meet Daniel Peacock, which must have made his boss feel uneasy. Hopefully, this wouldn’t lead to any more trouble.
William had become suspicious when Cherish seemed disturbed and restless. He hadn’t expected her to go and meet Daniel Peacock.
Had she hidden her phone in the car that time for Daniel Peacock’s sake?
What was the connection between them? And why did it still exist?
“Boss, I think Mr. Peacock wants Miss Turner’s help, due to the matter of the land for the animation city. After all, he should be well aware of Miss Turner’s importance to you. If Miss Turner were to step in, perhaps she could persuade Superintendent Thompson to give the land to them.”
William remained silent, feeling it couldn’t be that simple. Daniel Peacock, a troublemaker he’d held onto, wasn’t married to Abigail Johnson anymore, but he knew their relationship hadn’t been severed.
Among Kyoto City’s wealthy ladies, Abigail was known for her dissolute behavior. She appeared dignified but would stop at nothing to achieve the goals of Kyoto City Group. It was possible Abigail had prompted Daniel Peacock to deceive Cherish.
“Keep a close eye on Daniel Peacock’s side, and report any developments to me immediately. Also, the matter with Miss Turner must be kept a secret. If necessary…”
William didn’t finish his sentence, but Thomas understood.
Boss could ignore anyone but Daniel Peacock. Regardless of the past or present, Daniel was someone who had once held a place in Miss Turner’s heart. Even if that was no longer the case, the existence of a former lover was always sensitive.
Thomas knew his boss had a strong desire for control and possession. Although he was submissive to Miss Turner, if his boundaries were crossed, the consequences would be more than she could bear.
William called Cherish, asking her where she was.
Cherish hesitated in the cafe but didn’t explain clearly. William looked cold but didn’t reveal his feelings. He told her he would pick her up after work and go to the hospital to see Grace Harper together.
“Okay, I got it. I finish work at five, so I’ll wait for you by the company gate at that time.”
After hanging up, William looked at Thomas again:
“Book me a flight to Kyoto City for tomorrow. In the meantime, you’ll be responsible for the company’s affairs.”
“Are you going alone, boss?”
William nodded.
“When will you return?”
This time, William didn’t answer. He wasn’t sure himself when he’d return. It was time to visit Kyoto City again.
–
After parting with Daniel Peacock, Cherish and William went to the hospital to see Grace. Along the way, Cherish remained silent, not saying a word. Assuming she was feeling heavy-hearted and didn’t want to speak, William comforted her: “Once we get to the hospital, if my grandparents give you a hard time, just bear with it. I’ll communicate with them properly.”
Cherish nodded. What could she say in front of the Griffith family?
When they arrived at the hospital, even before entering the ward, Cherish could hear Grace’s sobs. Although quiet, each cry struck Cherish’s heart.
The doctor’s report from Grace’s full-body examination revealed that due to significant damage to her uterus, it would be challenging for her to have children in the future. In other words, she might never have children again. Cherish found this news hard to accept for a moment.
