Chapter 1215: Chapter 1214: Waiting for a Miracle
Jokes aside, and laughter aside, but the problem still remains in front of us.
Dr. Sloan took a deep breath—
Legally speaking, Felix is still a minor, even though he’s already mature beyond his years and understands human emotions and the ways of the world very well, but being a minor means he’s still underage, so the doctor needs to communicate directly with the guardian, who will then decide whether to inform Felix of the specific situation.
Obviously, Karen wants to continue hiding the truth from Felix; but Felix wants to know the truth.
But Dr. Sloan cannot say, not even if Li Wei vouches for Felix, it won’t work.
Dr. Sloan let out a long breath.
"In real life, there are many, many—I mean very many, patients with critical illnesses on the brink of death, yet they suddenly recover without any reason."
"We call such situations miracles."
"Felix, ever since we first met, I realized you are special, you possess a special kind of energy, maybe you are the one to create miracles."
"We’ve already experienced this twice, twice in total."
"I won’t tell you how things are, but I have faith, and so do you, right?"
Li Wei felt a pang of discomfort, awkwardly turned his head towards the corner of the room.
Felix quietly looked at Dr. Sloan, "Like the Kansas City Chiefs, right?"
Dr. Sloan nodded repeatedly, "Yes, just like the Kansas City Chiefs, just like the professor. During the 2017 season, no one believed we could win, and we almost lost the first game against the Tennessee Titans, but we won, and not only that, we kept on winning."
"The same was true last year. No one believed we could defend the Super Bowl title, people were already tired of us, and once again we fell into a difficult position, but eventually, we gritted our teeth and found a way to turn things around."
"Not because we are better, but because we always had faith."
Li Wei, hearing his name, quickly gathered his emotions, looked at Felix, and forced a smile, swallowing the bitterness whole.
Felix looked at Li Wei, his mouth turned up in a smile, "Same this year, right? From the beginning of the preseason, no one expected us to do well, wishing we would lose quickly, but we stubbornly kept going until now, we just like the way they want to see us lose, but can’t get satisfied."
"Haha."
Felix is a sensitive child, having gone through so much pain from a young age, he is more keenly perceptive of the surrounding atmosphere than anyone else.
Just like right now.
Even though Li Wei hid it well, Felix still caught the bitterness and struggle in Li Wei’s eyes, his best effort to put on a smile inadvertently leaked some truth.
Yet, it’s just like football.
The game tightens, lives hang by a thread, the coaching staff and fans stand on the sidelines, hearts nearly stopped; but the players on the field are focused and giving it their all, with no time to be nervous or afraid.
Now, the roles reverse—
Felix stands on the ’field,’ while Li Wei stands outside.
Even though Li Wei tries to help, even though he stays by Felix’s side, this is Felix’s battle, he must face the storm before him himself.
Felix quietly looked at Li Wei, then gave a big smile.
"Just like Annie, even in battles with set fates, we still fight proudly till the last moment, like the Chieftains, right?"
Light as a cloud, yet weighs heavy as a mountain.
In an instant, it crushed Li Wei, because of Felix’s smile.
This is Felix, consistently so, always smiling, always optimistic, always sunny, seemingly with endless energy.
But Li Wei knows, it’s a facade.
Behind those smiles, Felix faces unimaginable pain and torment, along with a life journey that could abruptly end at any moment.
Watching Felix’s smiling face, Li Wei recalled last winter when Felix came to his doorstep to deliver a jersey but fell into distress due to a sudden condition, it was the first time Li Wei saw Felix torn apart.
He curled up into a ball, mumbling continuously, "Don’t tell Mom, don’t tell Mom," tears streaming down his face, in so much pain that he almost fainted.
Death had never been so clear.
Yet, Felix didn’t leave, Death God found Annie first.
Now, Felix must carry Annie’s dreams forward.
Li Wei’s smile was hard to maintain, he had never felt so awkward, so insignificant, or so helpless before.
Felix keenly perceived this, he just gazed at Li Wei, those bright eyes like stars and oceans glistened with a gentle light.
Then, he repeated, "Right?"
Li Wei nodded seriously, "Yes. Just like the Chieftains."
Silently, Li Wei straightened his back, others might not know what they’re carrying, but he does, not just Annie and Felix’s lives, but also the hope that Kansas City worked hard to ignite, he remembers it firmly, never forgetting.
They will fight to the end.
Felix looked at Sloan, "Doctor, let’s create a miracle together!"
Sloan, slightly awkward under Felix’s gaze, nodded silently, tried to say something, but ultimately couldn’t find the right words, in the end just nodded again, trying to squeeze out a smile.
With the examination complete, Sloan got up to leave, as he passed by Li Wei, he gave him an extra glance, trying to say or do something, but found nothing professional enough, eventually giving up on all, just took a deep look at Li Wei, smiled, then walked away.
In the blink of an eye, the room was left with just Li Wei and Felix again.
The air felt a bit chilly.
Even though they had a passionate conversation, the deep meaning behind Dr. Sloan’s words was very clear, they are not children anymore, they understand the unsaid heavy truths that can’t be spoken.
Even if Dr. Sloan didn’t answer their questions, it seems now that there’s no need for an answer—
They need a miracle.
Felix gently exhaled, looked at Li Wei, pulling his mouth into a smile again, "I’ve never seen you so awkward before, quite disappointing."
Li Wei didn’t mind, spread his hands open, "Now you see clearly, right? The so-called idol is actually a fantasy conjured in your own mind. I’m just an ordinary person working a paid job for the team."
Felix widened his eyes, couldn’t hold back, and laughed heartily again.
Li Wei, full of candor, looked at Felix without blinking, "Felix, remember, I’m just an ordinary person, who gets scared, angry, nervous, and makes mistakes, just like you, so whatever I can do, you can do too."
"No, actually, it’s not right. What you’re capable of might be beyond me. So, whatever the difficulties, shall we face them together?"
