Chapter 1214: Chapter 1213: Laughter Unending

The sound of the wind rolled through the pipes, faintly mingling with the moans and cries from other wards, hovering in the air, as a chill slowly seeped into the room, awakening a thin layer of goosebumps on the skin.

Felix hated hospitals.

He thought he had already gotten used to hospitals, but once back in the ward, he realized he still hadn’t and absolutely loathed it.

Yet, what could he do now?

Helplessly and stiffly lying on the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling like a zombie, quietly feeling the vitality draining from his body.

This feeling was truly awful.

Until the silence was broken, a knock on the door pulled him back to reality.

It should be the doctor doing rounds.

Felix detested the feeling of being so familiar with hospital procedures.

He didn’t move, just pressed the remote, and the bed began to slowly rise.

Buzz, buzz buzz.

Accompanied by a low sound, the view ahead gradually unfolded.

Then Felix finally saw that figure poking his head from behind the door, standing in place, waiting for the bed to rise slowly.

“Rookie!”

Felix broke into a big smile, almost in disbelief.

But in the next second, Felix’s expression froze, revealing a hint of worry.

“Didn’t you go to the training ground? The media will attack you again for slacking off.”

Standing in front of him, who else could it be but Li Wei.

Li Wei shrugged lightly, “When did I ever care about their opinions?”

His confident demeanor made Felix laugh foolishly.

Li Wei, “It seems someone can’t help but keep up with the team matters even lying in a hospital bed. How do you feel, are you satisfied with our situation?”

Felix chuckled, looking at Li Wei, “Nowadays, there’s something called social networks. We don’t need to look for news on purpose; it all finds us. This old man needs to catch up with the times.”

Li Wei blinked, earnestly, “Oh, are newspapers out of date? No one told me to cancel the subscription.”

That serious look made Felix lose control and burst out laughing, the laughter growing more joyful and quickly filling the room.

After laughing for a while, Felix glanced at Li Wei, “You don’t need to care about what those netizens say; no matter what happens, they’ll never be satisfied.”

Despite lying on the hospital bed, Felix had the mindset to comfort Li Wei, which brought a smile to Li Wei’s eyes, “Haters will always be haters, right?”

Felix laughed along, “Classic quote!”

Li Wei scrutinized Felix, other than the lack of color in his cheeks, everything seemed normal, but various tubes were still hanging from his body, making him look like a robot, “So, how do you feel today?”

Felix looked down at himself, pouting, “I don’t know, okay, I guess.”

Li Wei: ???

Noticing Li Wei’s eye-rolling, Felix shrugged helplessly, “They won’t tell me. Neither the doctors nor my mom, they just comfort me, telling me to accept treatment and everything will be fine, treating me as if I were still a child.”

Li Wei, “But you are indeed a child.”

Felix gazed hopelessly at Li Wei, “Only in the biological sense.”

Li Wei, “So psychologically, you’re already an uncle?”

Felix: …

Unable to hold back, Felix laughed out loud, “You know what I mean. I’m not a kid anymore; this is the thousandth and first time I’ve been in the hospital. I know my body and can accept the facts.”

“No, in fact, I want to know my condition. I wish they’d be honest with me. Remember the last time the nurse accidentally let something slip?”

Li Wei was at a loss for words, “Felix…”

Felix raised his right hand to wave it gently, indicating he was fine, “I just want to know the truth. Rookie, can you help me ask?”

Li Wei’s words got stuck in his throat, unsure how to respond, when a knock on the door gave him a reprieve.

Li Wei turned around and saw a silver-haired white coat gentleman peering from behind the door, “May I come in to check on Felix’s condition now?”

Felix gave Li Wei a pleading look, then glanced away, “Dr. Sloan, this is…”

The silver-haired doctor smiled, “Professor, living in Kansas City, how could I not know you? It’s an honor to meet you. I am Mark Sloan, Felix’s attending physician.”

Li Wei extended his right hand, looking at this silver-haired yet youthful and vigorous doctor, “Being called a professor by a doctor feels a bit peculiar.”

Sloan tilted his head, “In your field, you absolutely deserve that title, earning respect through your own merits.”

Li Wei, “If the doctor knew where that nickname came from, he wouldn’t say that.”

Sloan: ???

But Felix laughed out loud, only to start coughing while laughing.

Li Wei didn’t continue the pleasantries, quickly stepping aside as Sloan stepped forward to check on Felix, the atmosphere slightly tense.

While Sloan examined Felix, Felix looked at Li Wei with a pleading expression, mouthing, “Can you tell him for me? About what happened last time?”

Li Wei looked exasperated.

Felix, “Please!”

Li Wei understood all too well; he wasn’t a direct relative, and he had no right or authority to ask the hospital to reveal Felix’s detailed condition. That was Karen’s right; he couldn’t overstep.

Yet deep inside, Li Wei understood Felix’s struggle and frustration; all the glances from others, the nurses’ attitudes, and his own condition seemed to suggest a harsh truth, but everyone refused to acknowledge the elephant in the room, which was truly distressing.

So, what was he to do?

Li Wei’s breath caught in his chest, and he gritted his teeth, “He knows he’s dying.”

The air suddenly turned silent.

For the first time, Dr. Sloan’s ever-present smile faded, “Professor, that’s not amusing.”

This matter was harder than anticipated. Li Wei clenched his fists tightly, “Last time we played a prank, deliberately saying Felix had stopped breathing, and then a nurse said everyone knew this day would come.”

Dr. Sloan was stunned, “A prank?”

Felix nodded, “I pretended to stop breathing, and when the nurse came over, I suddenly sat up and gave them a good scare. Hahaha, you should have seen their faces.”

Dr. Sloan couldn’t help but chuckle, “They must have been furious.”

Li Wei’s mouth curled up slightly, “This gentleman couldn’t stop laughing.”

Dr. Sloan realized, “I see, no wonder you look so slim, secretly losing weight. Indeed, laughter is the best weight-loss medicine.”

This time, all three of them burst out laughing, smiles blossoming fully.

Outside the ward, people looked at each other, the light and cheerful laughter reverberating through the air—

Is this really a hospital?

Is this normal?
