Divine Magus: Awakening
Chapter 51: Duskfang Isle

Chapter 51: Duskfang Isle

Logan, Orion, and the prince spent weeks on end on their journey.

The forest was a recurring location for them during that time.

"And what is the most powerful quality of the darkness element?" Logan asked the person whom he had spent weeks teaching.

"That’ll be the innate corrosive properties of the element." The Prince replied with a scowl.

"And what about the Earth element?" Orion chimed in, not wanting to feel excluded.

"That would be its rigidity and resilience." Prince William smiled softly as he answered the question with confidence.

"Okay. We’ve spent enough time resting, let’s get back to our journey." Logan spoke as he changed from the casual clothes Orion had stolen for him a week earlier into his familiar windbreaker.

Putting on his windbreaker and ensuring that his tachi was well placed in its sheath, Logan nodded at the other two to hurry with their preparation.

"We barely have over a month until the Academy resumes so why don’t we just head back and spend the rest of our holiday, I don’t know, relaxing like normal teenagers?" Orion groaned and dragged his feet.

"Here, place this in your storage ring." Prince William handed Orion a small book where he had been taking notes of his magic lessons.

Orion had acquired the ring by the same method he used to "earn" coins.

Looking at the ring on Orion’s finger, Logan couldn’t help but wonder how the hell he had ended up befriending a serial thief.

Pushing those thoughts to the back of his head, Logan and his cohorts resumed their slow march.

Slowly but certainly, the group covered more distance as time went by forcing Logan to wonder just how far they were from the continent’s shore.

"Don’t you people get worried?" Prince William spoke up, his voice quivering.

"Worried about?" Orion locked eyes with him and raised an eyebrow.

"You know. The person or group who tried to attack me all those weeks ago? Don’t you feel worried that whoever they are is just toying with us?" His hands trembled at the thought.

Prince William was not the type to feel utmost gratitude until he met Logan. The night he had saved him had been deeply memorable and forever engraved in the mind of the prince.

"If they do want to attack us later, there is almost nothing that we can do. We have no idea who they are or why they even want you, so there is next to no point worrying about that." Orion tried to comfort the royal.

’So there’s nothing we can do other than wait.’ Prince William sighed as he pushed his worries to the back of his mind.

The hard, and at times, quicksand-filled forest soon found its soil loosening with its particles becoming larger as well as paler until they became beach sand.

A large shore revealed itself to the view of the three young men.

Orion pointed at what appeared to be a distant hill. "That is Duskfang Isle." He spoke calmly.

"The metal that we are looking for is something that I call Spectral Tungsten." He surmised before looking at the distance for a boat to cross the ocean.

Luckily, he didn’t have to look far. Not too far from their location was a pier with a lot of canoes that could be rented.

After an intervention that lasted about four minutes, Logan and William managed to convince Orion not to steal the canoe.

"Fine, I’ll pay full price." He grunted.

Waving his hand, six gold coins appeared in it courtesy of the storage ring.

Orion left the group to approach the merchant.

The other two could only watch as it appeared Orion was in a heated argument with the merchant.

They saw him slouch his shoulders and hand the man the coins.

Dragging his feet with a dejected expression, Orion went back to them.

"I have good news and interesting news. Which would you like to hear first?"

Logan furrowed his eyebrows, "Give us the news in any order."

"Well, the good news is that I got the canoe." Orion grinned from ear to ear.

"Now, the interesting news is that we now own a canoe." He completed his statement.

Prince William took a step back, "Wait, did you say ’own’?" He asked with his eyes widened.

"Yeah. Apparently, six gold coins are more than enough to buy a canoe and the man refused to let me rent it with such an amount." Orion sighed.

Shaking his head, Logan decided to focus on the more pressing matters.

"The important thing is that we now have a canoe, irrespective of whether we own it or not." He spoke to stop the spiraling of the two.

"Let’s get going." He sighed and approached their newly bought canoe.

The three of them used the oar to row their way to the island.

As they got closer, they soon realized that the ’hill’ they saw earlier was more like a mountain the closer they got.

Once the canoe made contact with the sandy shore of the island, the three of them left its wooden structure to stand on the sand.

They had arrived at Duskfang Isle.

Looking at the mountain that lay at the center of the island, Orion could feel the abundance of a particular type of metal - one he had never come across before.

"The metal that we’re looking for is at the center of the island which is a little over a day’s travel," Orion informed the people he was with.

"But that isn’t what we should be worried about, is it?" The prince asked, sensing a building tension.

"Well, that’s natural. Hope you have been memorizing the spells we taught you because you’ll need them." Logan spoke with his eyes fixed on the distance.

His legs were starting to slightly shiver, sending waves of alertness through him.

"Prepare your best spells ’Your Highness’." Orion joked.

"’Cause we might not make it out alive." He smiled as a beast walked out of the island’s forest line.
