Chapter 945: Chapter 946: Unexpected Person
"It doesn’t look very good."
Watching Estir, who lay unconscious on the metal platform, Feng Yuan helplessly said as Agunas, with an ugly expression, turned to Old Wei and demanded,
"What have you done with them?!"
"The usual place. Seems they’re not dying so easily!"
Staring at Estir on the metal platform, Old Wei’s expression was no better. His pale face now looked ferocious as Feng Yuan sighed, stepped forward, and began disconnecting the mechanical devices and restraints. Looking down at Estir, he remarked,
"It’s truly cruel. Perhaps, they’ve all gone mad..."
At that moment, he also understood why those people seemed to lack Beast Tamers following them – even, he speculated, something even more sinister might have happened. As his hand gently brushed over Estir’s somewhat dry fur, Feng Yuan silently muttered something, and behind him, a golden Rune Circle slowly appeared.
"Wait, if that’s the case..."
Old Wei suddenly remembered something, his face drastically changed, and without having time to say anything to Feng Yuan, he turned and rushed out. Noticing Old Wei’s actions, Feng Yuan sighed softly and used the access he had obtained to shut down the entire facility’s security system. It took a moment for Agunas to react and, staring at Feng Yuan treating Estir, he asked,
"Can you directly open the gate to the other world?"
"I can, but you can’t go."
Feng Yuan continued treating Estir as he calmly replied, and Agunas, somewhat angrily yelled at Feng Yuan,
"Why not! Look at what they’ve done!"
"Are you sure you can handle Him if you go there? Or do you think, if you go there, He wouldn’t notice you?"
Veronia glanced at Agunas and said annoyed, knowing well that they, as Divine Beasts, shouldn’t leave their own world carelessly because they controlled certain authorities of this world. Once they ventured into other worlds, they were likely to be targeted – after all, you might not care about a small ant wandering into your house, but what about a large, shiny gold nugget trying to catch your attention incessantly?
"I..."
"Such impetuousness."
Veronia turned away with a disdainful look, prepared to forcibly restrain Agunas if necessary because she knew once Agunas went to the other world, returning would be difficult unless Feng Yuan intervened. But in that case, why not ask him to act directly?
"Although the mastermind in the other world can’t act directly, the jerk from this side can still be dealt with."
Veronia stated coldly. Although she didn’t particularly get along with the modern Divine Beasts, she couldn’t bear to see Estir in this state. Agunas looked at Veronia, then drifted towards the door as she watched Estir, saying without lifting her head,
"Don’t be too rash; he won’t stop you."
"What a hassle..."
Looking at Estir, who remained unconscious before him, Feng Yuan said helplessly. He couldn’t just leave him there, but Estir clearly hadn’t awakened yet, and he didn’t know when Lorraine Tower and the others would arrive since he had shut down the security system, making it hard to pinpoint their location.
What surprised Feng Yuan the most was that even now, those people hadn’t managed to retrieve the lowest level of control from him. He really wondered what those people were thinking; how dared they meddle with a Divine Beast if they couldn’t handle this? They must be out of their minds.
"Indeed..."
In a laboratory somewhere, Old Wei looked at the Spirit Beast caged and snarling and said, "I had suspected this might be the case, but I didn’t expect it to turn out to be true!" Seeing a man fiddling with something on a computer, Old Wei silently approached him from behind and held a dagger to his neck,
"What are you doing!"
"Ah! I... I haven’t done anything! I was just..."
Seeing the man stuttering, Old Wei frowned slightly; the reaction seemed a bit off. After a moment’s thought, Old Wei released the man and stared at him coldly,
"What exactly are you doing here!"
After sizing up the uniform on Old Wei for a while, the man seemed to breathe a sigh of relief as he said,
"You must be one of the intruders. Please, help me rescue them."
Old Wei eyed the man skeptically. Was he really that kind-hearted? He glanced at the Spirit Beasts languishing in their cages. The man sighed, walked to the computer, and continued fiddling with something as he said,
"I don’t know why they’re like this. They are our dear friends, yet they’re treated this way..."
"Don’t try to forcefully break the cages. All the devices here have a self-destruct system; if you destroy them violently, they will die too."
The man turned and warned Old Wei. If it weren’t for this, he would have already tried to destroy the cages rather than tampering with the computer.
"You have such kindness in your heart? You’re not in league with them?"
Old Wei was dubious but didn’t stop the man’s actions. He could sense the special devices on the cages, which used a special energy connection to link the souls of the Spirit Beasts to the cages. Therefore, even he dared not act rashly. After a moment, Old Wei glanced at the man and walked into the shadows, the man so preoccupied with hacking the computer system that he didn’t notice Old Wei’s departure.
"Damn it! What are you doing?"
Agunas, seeing those Spirit Beasts trapped in the cages, was enraged and swung a claw at the man. A silver-white blade charged at the man but was blocked by a crystal rose.
"What are you doing?"
Agunas glared at Veronia, who glared back at Agunas and said gruffly,
"So impulsive? Seems like you’ve changed."
"Relax, he’s probably not an enemy."
Feng Yuan stepped out from the shadows, somewhat helplessly. Xiao Ji nervously followed close behind. After scanning the cages, Feng Yuan sighed, waved his hand, and all the cages opened themselves. The man, witnessing this, was surprised as he assessed Feng Yuan.
He hadn’t expected Feng Yuan to directly lift the locks on those cages. The security permissions level here was extremely high, reserved only for the leader and a few select individuals. Yet, in that moment, he could not afford to think more and rushed over to cradle a One-leaf Fox from its cage, gently caressing its dull fur while incessantly apologizing.
"For your own goals, to drag it into this, is it really appropriate?"
Feng Yuan looked puzzled at the man. He couldn’t fathom the man’s actions. Even if he had infiltrated and could try to protect them to some extent, what more could he do? Didn’t it show he was powerless to even open these cages? For these Spirit Beasts, not particularly connected to himself, was it worth letting his close friends fall into such peril?
The One-leaf Fox didn’t seem to blame him, laboriously lifting its head to lick the man’s hand and faintly smiled with a sigh. Feng Yuan turned to Agunas and said,
"First, use the Rain of Life. We’ll discuss the rest after getting out. Little Green Snake, map out an area for them to rest."
Feng Yuan glanced at the One-leaf Fox in the man’s arms and said; Little Green Snake’s tail swiped, and a Space Gate appeared in front of Feng Yuan. Agunas glanced at Veronia, waved a paw, and led the Spirit Beasts into that small space, saying,
"I’ll take care of them."
"It was too impulsive today. Even if it can’t accept what’s happening, it still needs to calm down."
Veronia spoke calmly, although highly furious as well. But with its experience in Mitradite, it wasn’t visibly affected. Privately, though, it contemplated how to punish those vile individuals.
Death was too lenient for them. Considering the situation, Feng Yuan seemed unlikely to intervene, so...
Veronia squinted toward the door, unsure of how many Hunters were there, but confident that, under their siege, none of those scoundrels would escape.
Feng Yuan walked up to the man, waved his hand, and a slow Rain of Life fell. The One-leaf Fox gradually fell asleep under its influence. The man looked at Feng Yuan in surprise; naturally, he recognized it as the trademark ultimate move of the Life Divine Beast. However, why could this person use it? Nagna wasn’t supposed to have any Divine Pact Maker.
Glancing at the man, Feng Yuan said coldly,
"You’ve done well for a stranger, but poorly for a dear friend."
"I..."
