Chapter 921: Chapter 922: The Hidden Hand
"You’re dealing with..."
Old Wei looked at the giant cloaked shadow behind Feng Yuan with some surprise. Without expression, Feng Yuan said,
"This thing must be here for me, tsk! They’re going mad over me without even acknowledging them?"
A black sickle appeared in his hand. If Qi Chen were here, he would recognize it as the one Feng Yuan frequently used initially. Glancing at Xiao Ji, Old Wei asked in a low voice,
"But what about it if you do this?"
"It’s okay, just teaching them a lesson!"
With a fierce roar, Feng Yuan swung the sickle forcefully, and a series of crimson chains burst from the circular platform beneath him towards the other six platforms. Taking out an ancient lantern, Feng Yuan revealed a cold smile and said,
"It seems that the secret trap I left earlier really came in handy."
A metallic clock face floated in front of Feng Yuan, and with a fierce grin, Feng Yuan said,
"Take care of Xiao Ji for me, I’ll be right back."
The hands on the clock face struggled as if something had grabbed them, trying to move. A moment later, the hands stopped struggling and stayed in place. With a light ’ding’, the whole world fell into grayscale, save for the new Tower of Oblivion, which seemed untouched as it continued to exchange light with the altar.
"It’s too obvious!"
Feng Yuan tossed the sickle in his hand, and rings of scarlet runes spread out in all directions. The halted space vibrated as if some terrifying entity were awakening. Moments later, a scarlet eyeball slowly opened, staring at the new Tower of Oblivion while Feng Yuan said with a cold laugh,
"Just because I don’t want to deal with your mess doesn’t mean I can’t do anything. Sometimes, you really shouldn’t be so arrogant."
Outside the world, a trail of crimson chains spread out along an invisible path in all directions. The voice, whose identity was indiscernible, exclaimed in surprise,
"How is this possible! How can such a thing exist!"
"I’ve told you not to mess around! What do we do now!"
An exasperated voice rang out, the original voice replied discontentedly,
"He deceived us! He was never restricted at all!"
The crimson chains continued their pervasive spread throughout the surrounding space and moved relentlessly into the distance. At that moment, the chains, as though they had discovered something, quickly extended in a particular direction.
"Damn it! What does He want to do!"
The crimson chains soon reached a colossal world, which was absorbing several smaller worlds around it. If the beings of Lorraine Tower saw this scene, they would be extremely surprised. They were already struggling to fend off attacks from just two or three worlds, while this world was capable of simultaneously battling several slightly weaker worlds and easily absorbing them.
However, as the crimson chains wrapped around the world’s barrier, everything changed. The world that noticed something was wrong immediately reacted, but neither the world’s counterattack nor the internal creatures could affect the chains.
The scarlet color spread over the world’s barriers, and the native creatures sent to combat the crimson chains were instantly corrupted into bizarre creatures by the chains and turned to fight against their own world.
The corruption continued to expand. In just a short while, a third of this massive world had been tainted. The smaller worlds being consumed could not escape either. Because they were already resisting the large world, these worlds had little strength left to fight the crimson chains and thus were completely contaminated much quicker than the large world.
Due to the large world absorbing these smaller ones, there was an inherent rule-based link between them. The crimson chains swiftly invaded the core area of that world following these links.
"Damn it! What does He want to do!"
The initial voice shouted exasperatedly. This massive world was his proudest creation, and he hadn’t expected it to fall so easily. Another dissatisfied voice yelled,
"We’ve said not to provoke him! What do we do now!"
The crimson chains were rapidly spreading throughout the entire space. The worlds that were drifting aimlessly sensed the danger and stopped moving, trying not to collide with those perilous chains. Nonetheless, several less fortunate worlds hit by the chains were contaminated.
"If that’s the case! Forget about Him, just take action!"
"How can we take action? That thing is clearly an entity that was once sealed. We are no match for it now!"
"If we were able to seal it back then, of course we can now!"
"You can try, but I certainly don’t have that ability!"
As those voices descended into dispute, the vast world was completely polluted. From the outside, the contaminated world appeared like a blood-red sphere. The chains gradually moved closer toward the large world. The blood-red world began to change, slowly turning into a vortex, from which all the chains stretching across the entire space seemed to extend.
Where the chains originally extended to, the area around the world was now devoid of chains. However, at a distance from it, the density of the red chains rapidly increased. Although not to the extent that they would prevent passage through the world, one needed to be exceedingly cautious, for a single misstep could result in colliding with those red chains.
"What on earth have you done?"
Old Wei, although unaware of what Feng Yuan had done, saw him looking somewhat weak, and the fleeting red flash that flew outside the world, and he understood that the other party must have done something.
"A warning, and damage—though not entirely dismantling their plan, I believe the increased difficulty out of thin air should deter them from troubling us again."
Feng Yuan said with satisfaction. Xiao Ji rubbed against Feng Yuan, seemingly concerned about his weakened appearance. Old Wei glanced at Feng Yuan and asked,
"Are you, alright then?"
"No problem, just a bit more exhausted than usual. I’m really curious about how they plan to deal with it~"
"What exactly did you do?"
Agunas looked at Feng Yuan with puzzlement. It sensed no changes inside the world, and the events outside the world were unknown to it. Feng Yuan replied with a smug smile,
"I just released a terrible monster. Its goals clash with theirs, and I doubt they’ll dare to provoke me again before they deal with that creature."
This time was also about taking a stand. Even Feng Yuan couldn’t say for certain that he had absolute control over it, so releasing it carried risks. However, he preferred not to wait for their move.
"But this also brings a danger. If you see a crimson creature with extremely powerful assimilative capabilities, do not approach it. Inform me directly, and I will handle it."
Feng Yuan warned as something came to mind. Veronia nodded and said,
"Understood."
Agunas glanced at Veronia with disdain,
"Do you need to inform him, always trailing behind him like this?"
"You!"
"Enough, both of you stop arguing."
Feng Yuan stood somewhat helplessly between Agunas and Veronia, blocking their line of sight with each other, while Old Wei watched the scene with amusement and remarked,
"This is indeed interesting."
"Next, we have to deal with these guys and sort out the lingering issues with that creature."
Feng Yuan, looking at the grey-white world and not eager to work, commented. Agunas flicked its tail and said,
"We can help you with these guys, but we can’t do anything about the energy exchange. That’s beyond our jurisdiction."
"I know, it’s such a hassle."
Feng Yuan waved his hand, and color returned; time resumed its flow. Looking at the attackers below, who were back in motion, Feng Yuan said expressionlessly,
"I leave them to you. Xiao Ji, keep an eye on our surroundings and make sure they don’t disturb me."
Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Xiao Ji emitted a clear eagle’s cry and kept scanning the surroundings vigilantly, holding the floating Dark Ancient Book above its palm. Behind Feng Yuan, a black Rune Circle slowly spun into existence, seemingly pulling at something.
"It’s starting!"
Feng Yuan shouted and hurled the Dark Ancient Book into the air. The book exploded in midair, turning into streams of black Rune Chains that covered the entire circular platform. Black Chains swiftly spread across Xinmu City, which was encircled by the platform. Six thick Black Chains shot out toward six different directions, and if observed from above, their destination would be precisely the six smaller circular platforms.
