Chapter 891: Chapter 892: Anomalies

"It must have been an accident in the depths of the Netherworld that caused this connection here, but where exactly is that?"

Feng Yuan looked at the orchard filled with the breath of life in front of him with some puzzlement. Those flying sparks were because the environment here was too harsh, causing the soul debris to drift about everywhere.

"The depths of the Netherworld?"

Gladys was somewhat confused. She did not quite understand how Feng Yuan had determined that the connection was to the depths of the Netherworld. Could it have been from somewhere else, perhaps?

Without answering Gladys’s question, Feng Yuan took out the Dark Ancient Book and said,

"Be careful, the situation here is somewhat unusual. Just stay on the outskirts. If you go inside, I’m afraid it won’t be able to protect you."

Little Yognot, who was idly digging in the dirt, looked at Feng Yuan with some confusion, and He Nanqing asked, puzzled,

"Why? Aren’t you worried about yourself? Isn’t Agunas not by your side right now?"

Pulling Xiao Ji in front of him, Feng Yuan said proudly,

"This is enough—"

Xiao Ji crowed with pride, seeming very pleased. Lanadi glanced at Gladys, who had summoned Mogu, and said,

"It seems you’ve also noticed something’s off?"

"Pretty much. That thick scent of the Breath of Death, I’m afraid, can only be found in the depths of the Netherworld. I wonder if we’ll be going on an adventure in the Netherworld tonight. It’s a shame my skincare effort is wasted then—"

With a sad look, Gladys touched her chin, expressing regret. Lanadi chuckled and said,

"And here I thought you didn’t need to take care of your skin."

"I’m not like you, busy with all sorts of things every day, not even having time for yourself."

"Really? Then what am I doing right now?"

Lanadi replied with a provoking smile. Glancing at Lanadi, Gladys said, rather annoyed,

"Who knows if you’ve taken on some special investigation task again. It’s a pity he’s not that tempting to you, or else I’d really wish he could pull you away from that sea of bitterness."

Laughing, Lanadi did not bother to argue with Gladys’s comment. Such matters couldn’t be clearly explained.

"Is it really okay?"

He Nanqing looked at the orchard bathed in starlight with some concern. Little Yognot nudged He Nanqing as if trying to communicate something, but its meaning couldn’t reach He Nanqing. Smiling, He Nanqing gently stroked Little Yognot and said,

"Thank you—"

Amidst the orchard, everyone walked through the forest of fruit trees littered with stars. Lanadi looked ahead at the leading figure and asked,

"Do you know where they are?"

"I don’t know, but I do know where the connection point is."

Staring at the Dark Ancient Book in his hands, Feng Yuan spoke calmly. Around the book, a black mist continuously twirled, attempting to guide it toward a particular location.

"The more beautiful it is, the more dangerous it can be."

Gladys said with a smile as Mogu punched a nearby cluster of stars to pieces, and an energy storm swept past them. Little Ice Cream, sitting on Feng Yuan’s shoulder, lost its balance and tumbled over in the energy storm. Xiao Ji looked at Mogu dissatisfiedly and, with a fierce flap of its wings, wrapped the group in a black current, blowing away the approaching clusters of stars.

"That’s just their method of defense, after all, these pure soul debris are important guardians at the bottom of the Netherworld."

Feng Yuan was unconcerned, and Lanadi asked with some curiosity.

"Is there something special in the depths of the Netherworld?"

Feng Yuan didn’t lift his head as he spoke, staring at the Dark Ancient Book in his hands.

"There is nothing special," he said, "but the foundation supporting the existence of the Netherworld is located at its depths. If that area were to be destroyed, the entire Netherworld would fall into turmoil. Of course, accomplishing that is no small feat."

"Though there are no Death-series Divine Beasts, there is still an abundance of Ghost-type Divine Beasts. They take turns guarding this foundational homeland, which is vital to the Ghost Series."

"That’s why I’m wondering, what exactly went wrong there?"

Feng Yuan spoke, perplexed. The structure of the Netherworld is peculiar—if the pillars at its base were to be destroyed, the entire realm would be at risk of collapse. Therefore, those Ghost-type Divine Beasts care deeply about that place. Ordinary people, and even Ghost Series Spirit Beasts without permission, would not dare approach the depth of the Netherworld. Even if beings like Agunas were to go there without notice, they might be treated as enemies by those guardians.

"Ghost-type Divine Beasts, huh? They are almost as legendary as Lorraine Tower."

Gladys spoke playfully. Like Lorraine Tower, those Ghost-type Divine Beasts rarely appeared before mortals. Their specific reasons for seclusion were unclear, but indeed, there were few records of sightings. If not validated by other Divine Beasts, Ghost-type Divine Beasts might be considered non-existent to mankind, much like their Death-series counterparts.

"Not exactly," Feng Yuan said as he walked, "at least Divine Pact Makers still exist, albeit seldom seen by humans. After all, humans aren’t exactly fond of them."

As he spoke, a thin white mist began to form around them. The sprinkling of lights within the mist, obscured by its faintness, appeared all the more eerie and inexplicable.

"This is... it’s quite severe."

Glancing at Xiao Ji, who had become spirited, Feng Yuan sighed. A normal aura of the Netherworld wouldn’t excite it like this; only power from the depths of the Netherworld could. However, he didn’t know what Agunas and Veronia had run off to do. It was clear they couldn’t resolve it themselves, so why hadn’t they come to seek his help promptly?

"This fog seems a bit off. Be careful."

Lanadi said, eyeing their surroundings vigilantly to Gladys who was sitting on Gladys’ shoulder, waved her hand, conjuring a misty rainbow orb that enveloped Gladys. After glancing at the Prophecy Doll on Lanadi’s shoulder, Gladys said with a smile,

"You might want to be more concerned about yourself."

"To think it even learned that move? It’s quite impressive."

Lanadi said enviously. Xiao Ji spread its wings, creating a black spherical Barrier that enveloped Feng Yuan, protecting him within. Although he knew the mist couldn’t affect him, Feng Yuan accepted Xiao Ji’s good intention with a smile.

Little Ice Cream stood on Feng Yuan’s shoulder, pivoting on one foot and spinning in place. A colorful river of light appeared out of nowhere, flowing slowly around them. The white mist receded like a vanquished enemy towards the back.

Xiao Ji glared at Little Ice Cream unhappily. Seeing this, Big Cat let out a sneaky smile and quietly wriggled closer to Feng Yuan. The little lizard atop its head yawned, glanced at Pomiti beside him, who seemed to be asleep. The lizard’s eye twinkled, and its tail gently tapped on Pomiti, which caused no reaction; instead, the lizard’s tail recoiled as if it had struck a glowing hot iron.

Pomiti seemed to feel nothing and continued snoring deeply. The lizard looked at its tail with pity, and Feng Yuan happened to notice the scene, somewhat speechless. Pomiti was a special Spirit Beast, and the Force of Fate lingering around it was not something the lizard could compete with. The lizard’s tail, though it just meant to play a prank, was entwined with the Force of Fate.

As a result, it experienced a Backlash from the formidable Force of Fate surrounding Pomiti. Luckily, it held no malice, otherwise, it would have suffered grievous injuries on the spot. Looking at the lizard, Feng Yuan warned,

"You better not think of bullying it. The Force of Fate around it is something even Veronia would fear."

The lizard looked warily at the snoring Pomiti, and Xiao Ji glanced at Feng Yuan with some confusion. Scratching Xiao Ji’s neck, Feng Yuan said,

"Let’s go. I can sense they are just ahead, though I have no clue what they are up to."

"What a hassle. Is your method really going to work?"

Veronia, back in her true form, complained to Agunas, who grasped a Golden Page while staring at the black crack before them, sporadically emitting crimson lightning.

"It will definitely work but I wonder why..."

"Please, the spatial power of Gitalien alone can’t separate the space of the Netherworld, not to mention that this power you’re using is a mere imitation of Gitalien’s."

Feng Yuan said, somewhat exasperated. Veronia glanced at the trio breaking through the mist and approaching them and said,

"It was Agunas who claimed to have a way. I’ve said from the start this power isn’t within its capacity to handle."
