Chapter 877: Chapter 878: Nameless Residence

"As a gift, it’s fine, but I don’t need to buy it myself."

Lanadi said from the side that she didn’t need to bring any gifts back, after all, she occasionally had to carry out Alliance missions, and if she brought gifts every time, not to say whether her wallet could handle it, others wouldn’t be willing either.

"A gift for yourself, huh? I don’t know what you like."

The woman said, glancing at Feng Yuan. She wasn’t really interested in Lanadi, but she was quite curious about Feng Yuan, who was young but knew so much, especially about Yun tea, which ordinary people might not know the secrets of.

"Let me see, this seems nice, how about I give it to you?"

Feng Yuan looked around the shelves and suddenly picked up an interesting item, showing it to Lanadi with a shake, and after glancing at the statue Lanadi said with some surprise,

"Didn’t expect you to notice this?"

Feng Yuan placed the bear-holding-fish statue on the table, smiled, and said,

"Children never hide their thoughts, do they?"

Recalling something, Lanadi smiled slightly and said,

"That’s true, I forgot that the time you all experience isn’t the same as mine."

Feng Yuan didn’t wait for the woman to explain but carefully took the wooden fish from the bear’s arms and placed the carving on an empty table nearby. Next to the bear carving, a cloud of mist slowly emerged from below the carving. Watching this intriguing scene, Lanadi asked,

"Is this made of a special material?"

"That’s not wrong to say. The main trunk of old Yun tea does indeed count as a special material, though it doesn’t have much practical use,"

Feng Yuan said, observing the wooden fish gradually engulfed in mist, its form undulating like a fish swimming through the gossamer-like white smoke, while the bear carving stood on the ’lake surface,’ adorably seemingly oblivious to its prey escaping.

"Mogu would find this expression quite amusing."

Lanadi, recalling something, smiled and said, while Gladys, who was listening to instructions, turned her head and chuckled at the view of the bear and fish amid the clouds,

"Never mind, if Mogu saw this scene, he’d probably smack it down with a slap, and I can’t afford to pay for this damage."

Gladys said somewhat helplessly; Mogu’s temper wasn’t great, and seeing this, his temper might flare, and this carving looked like no ordinary item. Paying money would be one thing, but if she had to compensate with a similar item, that would be troublesome.

"So violent? I thought Traveler Bear was a Cultivate the Mind sort of Spirit Beast?"

Feng Yuan asked with some surprise; if it were any other temperamental Spirit Beast it’d be different, but Traveler Bear was one who tempered its spirit via evolution, known for better temperament among Spirit Beasts.

"It’s just a bit feisty, doesn’t really like being called ’adorably dumb,’ but there’s no real malice in it."

Gladys explained with a smile, Feng Yuan glanced at Xiao Ji, who showed a tricky smile and said,

"A bit feisty?"

Xiao Ji turned its head away in dissatisfaction, flapping its wings twice in annoyance, while Agunas flicked its tail slightly, saying somewhat speechlessly,

"Be careful, if it really gets angry, you’ll have to put in effort to appease it later."

"This carving, if you want it, I can sell it to you, but remember to wipe the surface with water periodically. And if you separate the fish and the bear causing the smoke to appear, also wipe the surface with water so it can slowly absorb moisture; otherwise, it might gradually crack and break."

Though the Yun tea tree trunk product had the ability to draw moisture from the air, there was a limit to it, particularly during smoke release, as most of the moisture forming the smoke was previously stored inside the wood. If it isn’t replenished promptly, the wood might suffer severe dehydration and damage.

Feng Yuan nodded and looked at Lanadi saying,

"Consider this my gift to you then~"

Lanadi reluctantly accepted,

"Thank you, but such an item that needs maintenance..."

Lanadi hesitated because she wasn’t always at the Thousand Stars Tribe; it wasn’t suitable to take with her if she went out, and it would be embarrassing if it were to break due to lack of care.

"It’s not a big problem, when you’re busy and don’t have time, you can completely ask them to take care of it for you, and it’s not something that requires daily maintenance, right?"

Gladys deftly stuffed the wooden fish carving back and said, when the woman took out a small basin of clean water and a small towel, carefully wiping the carving, which had begun showing signs of dryness on its surface. But as the woman continued, the carving gradually regained a lustrous sheen.

"So that’s how it is. If it can be distinguished, I might ask them for help when I’m not around."

Seeing this, Lanadi was no longer worried, and Gladys said while placing the tea cake she had packed into a wooden box into her backpack,

"This will serve as a gift, but it still lacks something."

"Why don’t we look around here?"

As Feng Yuan spoke, his gaze swept around the quaint shop, where the display cases and decorations harmonized superbly. If it weren’t for the price tags, it would have been hard to tell which items were for sale and which were merely decor.

"You aren’t running this shop just for it, are you?"

Feng Yuan asked, pointing to the quiet white figure hiding behind the screen. Looking at Big Cat standing next to him, the woman smiled and said,

"Why can’t it be for my own liking?"

Staring at the woman for a while, Feng Yuan shook his head and said,

"I can feel that you like this place too, but you wouldn’t open a shop in the Grand Library just for a personal hobby. You’re doing it more for its sake, right?"

"Reason?"

"Neither top-grade Yun Tea nor those Yun tea wood carvings are things ordinary people can obtain. Rather than renting a shop outside, where you could decorate it much better than this, not to mention the larger space, even though you’ve designed this place meticulously, it’s impossible to overcome the spatial constraints to create a layout you’d truly be satisfied with."

Feng Yuan looked around and explained. Although the decorations here were exquisite, it exemplified a form of constraint – a small space crammed with so many items, no matter how thoughtfully designed, would inevitably feel crowded.

"Maybe it’s because I can only afford to rent such a small place?"

The woman said with a slight smile. Feng Yuan sighed and said,

"That’s a meaningless thing to say. Plus, the Maomu Grand Library doesn’t rent out shop spaces to outsiders. Money has never been the difficulty in opening a shop inside; permission is the real hurdle."

Being Maomu City’s largest library, no one would allow the administration to turn the interior into a marketplace. Feng Yuan walked toward Big Cat, stroked its head, and gazing into the puzzled eyes of the scholarly owl who was eyeing Big Cat, he said,

"A scholar owl specializing in historical documents, huh? You are special, just like Big Cat."

Big Cat, not understanding, tilted its head and meowed a few times. The woman came over, gently placed her hand on the back of the scholar owl, and asked,

"Does that seem odd to you? Do you think strength is everything? Or do you believe scholar owls only have value in specializing in weapon research?"

"Of course not, Big Cat is even more partial than your scholar owl. The scholar owls that specialize in games are precisely what it is."

Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Big Cat meowed proudly a few times. The woman looked at Big Cat beside Feng Yuan in surprise and said,

"Specializing in games? Designing games? Isn’t there a Data Domain now? If done well, the advantage would be significant, right?"

"The kind that plays games, though it involves some design too."

Feng Yuan stroked Big Cat’s head nonchalantly and said. Hearing his words, the woman looked at Feng Yuan incredulously for a while but saw no sign of guilt in him. Smiling, she extended her hand to Feng Yuan and introduced herself,

"Cheng Xiaoxiao, the owner of this nameless residence."

Shaking hands with her, Feng Yuan smiled and said,

"Feng Yuan, a senior high school student at Maomu No.2 Middle School."

Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at him in surprise and asked,

"Are you a graduate this year? Are you planning to give up the college assessment?"

Shaking his head, Feng Yuan pulled Xiao Ji, who was behind him, forward and said,

"This is my Spirit Beast. Besides, I don’t need to rely on a Spirit Beast’s power to pass the college assessment."

Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Agunas silently shook its tail.
