Chapter 602: Chapter 603 Nien Wheel_1
"What is that?!"
Guo Huai eyed the strange metallic wreckage in front of him with suspicion. Arc-shaped metal bars, filled with odd patterns, circled around a massive disc, perhaps the reason being that the era was so distant in the past, many of these metal bars had already broken. Most of the metal disc and the rings of square cross-section metal bars were buried beneath the seabed’s gravel.
Covering most of the metal, deep-sea moss emitted a faint blue glow, casting a veil of mystery over the metallic remains.
"Relics of the Mythical Era, perhaps."
Feeling the surging energy within the metal, Feng Yuan speculated, mainly due to Agunas’s phantom’s reaction, because Agunas had only lived in the Mythical Era and the modern world. Given that the object could surprise Agunas’s phantom, it was highly likely to be a remnant of the Mythical Era.
"Correct, this must be a fragment of the Nien Wheel."
The phantom of Agunas appeared nostalgic as it examined the metallic wreckage in front of it. Although it was covered with moss, the passage of time hadn’t left many marks on it. Even after being immersed in seawater for so long, it seemed as if it had just entered the water. Guo Huai, driven by curiosity, asked,
"What is the Nien Wheel?"
"It is a Divine Artifact that controls the weather, similar to the weather-manipulating ultimate moves of Divine Beasts, except the Nien Wheel can forcibly lock the weather within a certain range."
As Agunas’s phantom reminisced, it explained, pointing to the giant disc,
"That disc is one of the core components of the Nien Wheel. A complete Nien Wheel would have many of such pieces floating and circling around it, and those metal rings on the outside are actually for decoration and stabilization."
"Its effective range must be quite large, right?"
Feng Yuan guessed, sensing the energy, given that even he had difficulty accessing information from the Mythical Era and therefore wasn’t very clear about the full capabilities of the Nien Wheel from that time.
"Not particularly large, the Nien Wheel was only used to artificially interfere with the weather to ensure that agriculture wasn’t affected. As for the range..."
"I remember a single Nien Wheel could cover more than half of the Divine Land Region."
"No wonder, if you had said that such a colossal power had a small range, I would have found it strange," Feng Yuan said with a smile, as if he had guessed right, continuing while closing his eyes, apparently thinking of something, Agunas’s phantom stared dreamily at the remains of the Nien Wheel, and Mo Li muttered to himself,
"The Nien Wheel? The Divine Artifact that commands the weather?"
"Forget about it. Things from the Mythical Era are not for us to covet," Guo Huai said helplessly, as his system lacked specific information about the Mythical Era. The bits and pieces of information he did receive made him understand that it was impossible to relive the splendor of the Mythical Era. Once, he had asked Feng Yuan why after the end of the Mythical Era humans could hardly wield extraordinary powers again, Feng Yuan mysteriously smiled and said,
"The world’s origin determines everything. To relive the Mythical Era, unless you give up the current Spirit Beast system, it’s simply not possible, and the end of the Mythical Era has already proven that path unsatisfactory."
"It does seem like a nice decorative piece though~"
Feng Yuan opened his eyes and uttered an apparently nonsensical remark. Without waiting for the crowd to question him, Feng Yuan raised his right hand slightly open, and a ghostly projection appeared before everyone. Looking at that projection, Guo Huai exclaimed in surprise,
"This is the Nien Wheel?!"
"Yep~"
Everyone easily matched the large disc rotating around the massive hollow spherical center with the relics before them, and by means of the giant disc, they quickly deduced the true size of the complete Nien Wheel.
"Where could you possibly hang this thing as a decoration?"
Yao Yin asked skeptically. If the projection’s scale was accurate, the true size of the Nien Wheel might be even larger than Kui Shui Xuanwu. Given that the huge shell of the current Kui Shui Xuanwu was sparsely covered with shrubs and could fit a small cabin, the Nien Wheel, which could be even larger...
Yao Yin couldn’t figure out where such a thing could be placed; even modern villas couldn’t accommodate something so enormous.
"Just scale it down to size."
Feng Yuan glanced at Yao Yin, guessing what she doubted. Anyway, he didn’t need the effects of the Nien Wheel; as a mere decoration, he could very well scale it down to a size that could be hung as an ornament in the room.
"Make me one," said Agunas’s phantom, flicking its tail. Although it was a Divine Beast, resizing the Nien Wheel proportionally was something it couldn’t do. Feng Yuan was probably the only one beside Ernis capable of that, and Agunas did not want to approach Ernis for such a trivial matter – besides, it would be futile, for Ernis didn’t know what the Nien Wheel looked like.
"Where do you plan to put it?"
Curious, Feng Yuan looked at Agunas’s phantom. Agunas currently didn’t have a fixed place of residence, so even if he took it, Feng Yuan had no idea where it would be placed.
"The Land of Time Tranquility?"
Feng Yuan tentatively asked, shaking his head, the phantom of Agunas said
"No, I have already carved out a space in the void to serve as the Land of Records. I still haven’t decided whether to connect it directly with the world like the Lorraine Tower or keep it independent from the world."
"You’ve started building a nest? And didn’t invite me for a visit."
Feng Yuan said with some dissatisfaction, glancing at the phantom of Agunas as it flicked its tail
"The situation in Odinis has basically stabilized; naturally, I need to establish a place to facilitate handling matters that follow."
Remembering the responsibilities of Agunas, Feng Yuan nodded and said
"That’s true, but I think it would be better for you to do like the Lorraine Tower and place it directly into the world."
"A space independent on the outside is too lonely."
"That’s also true..."
The phantom of Agunas nodded in agreement with Feng Yuan’s opinion; it was precisely because of this point that it had not yet decided how to set up its own lair.
"However, shrinking the Nien Wheel is still a bit troublesome〜"
Looking at the massive wreckage of the Nien Wheel before him, Feng Yuan said with a smile; to shrink the Nien Wheel wasn’t a matter of simply scaling it down proportionally. Those runes also carried the responsibility for the flow of energy, and even if most of the functions were removed, creating a decorative piece that imitates the normal appearance of the Nien Wheel still posed some difficulties.
"If it’s very troublesome, there’s no need to make one for me."
The phantom of Agunas flicked its tail and said, holding Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan said with a smile
"It’s not so much trouble, and since I have to make one anyway, is there any difference between making one and making two?"
"If we could restore the Nien Wheel... I wonder where the other wreckage is."
Looking at the remains of the Nien Wheel, Hua Yiyou said absent-mindedly. A Divine Artifact capable of manipulating and stabilizing the weather was significant in warfare. Feng Yuan glanced at Hua Yiyou and said
"Forget about it, the Nien Wheel can’t be replicated; the core materials can no longer be found. Trying to collect the original materials from the wreckage is also unlikely; perhaps there might still be some remains in the Starlit Sea, but the Starlit Sea is so vast..."
"Only in the Starlit Sea?"
Guo Huai looked at Feng Yuan with some confusion. He didn’t quite understand why, as this object didn’t seem like something placed on the sea. Feng Yuan looked at the Nien Wheel wreckage quietly resting on the sea bottom and said
"Besides the Starlit Sea, fragments of artifacts from the Mythical Era in other regions have long been decomposed by nature."
"It’s only because of the Starlit Sea’s special properties that it can preserve those few items that sank into it."
"The Starlit Sea’s special properties?"
Guo Huai, somewhat puzzled, looked around at the seabed plant life emitting various colors of light, and Feng Yuan said softly
"What do you think the Starlit Sea really is?"
"The ocean?"
"An ocean that nurtures life?"
"An ocean that gives birth to life?"
After trying for a while and getting no response, Guo Huai said with some dissatisfaction
"Then what is it exactly!"
"Do you remember a term? Star Ocean."
"Are you referring to the Star Ocean of the Federal Era?"
Guo Huai was somewhat confused. He didn’t dare to speak too openly about matters from the previous world; in case something unexpected happened, it would be troublesome. Although he had learned from Feng Yuan that the Divine Beasts all knew about his status as a crossworld traveler and had no ill intentions towards him, should Mo Li and others infer something and let their thoughts stray to strange places, that would be inconvenient.
